It looks like the Casino Royale has filed an application with the Clark County Planning department to add on a 14,900 sq foot 2 story addition at the back of the building to enlarge the casino and add more storage and offices on 2nd floor.

http://dsnet.co.clark.nv.us/dsnetapps/agendaweb/Data/P0214649.htm

Interesting point is that the addition will take away 37 parking
spaces, but the place will be left with 501 spaces, of which Clark
County says they only need 367.

I was just really wishing that it was the Project Neon Lights location... I think that would be a really great location for a stadium project!!! In fact, I think the area around it would get a huge boost (including the Arts District)... It would also be awsome to see the Strip and Downtown have some kind of major buffer between them (instead of the old 1950-60's houses)

Australia's PBL plans partnership in Las Vegas hotel-casino

By KEN RITTER
Associated Press Writer

LAS VEGAS (AP) -- Australia's biggest gambling and media company will partner with a property developer and a private investment fund to build a new hotel-casino on the Las Vegas Strip.

Publishing & Broadcasting Ltd., a firm controlled by Australia's richest man, James Packer, said it formed a joint venture with IDM Properties of Austin, Texas, and York Capital Management of New York to develop a resort that will be called the Crown Las Vegas.

York spokesman Mark Schein on Friday confirmed the partnership, but declined to discuss specifics.

Publishing & Broadcasting announced separately Friday that it sold a 25 percent stake in its PBL Media joint venture to private equity partner CVC Asia Pacific, reducing its stake in PBL Media to 25 percent.

Packer, PBL's executive chairman, said the sale was part of a broader reallocation of capital.

The Las Vegas Strip property would be operated by Crown Limited, a gambling company to be split from Sydney-based Publishing & Broadcasting, subject to approval by shareholders, the company said.

PBL said it paid $22.5 million for a 37.5 percent equity interest in the joint venture company, called LVTI LLC.

The company put the total purchase price at $475 million. It said the joint venture paid $45 million, with the balance due in 2008.

Christopher Milam, of IDM has proposed what would be the tallest building in the world, an 1,888-foot tower, on the former site of a swimming and water park on the north end of the Las Vegas Strip.

He confirmed the partnership in an e-mail with the Las Vegas Review-Journal, the newspaper reported Friday. He could not immediately be reached by The Associated Press.

Nevada Gaming Control Board Chairman Dennis Neilander told the Review-Journal that Packer had not yet applied for a casino license.

Publishing & Broadcasting owns and operates two Australia casinos - the Crown Entertainment Complex in Melbourne and Burswood International in Perth.

It also is a partner with Hong Kong-based Melco International Development Ltd. in the Crown Macau casino, which opened in May in the Chinese gambling enclave.

Milam entered an option agreement in June 2006 to pay $450 million to Archon Corp., the owner of the 27-acre former water park.

The site is next to a 24.5-acre site being developed as the Fontainebleau-Las Vegas, a 3,889-room casino, hotel, condominium and spa resort tower due to open in late 2009. PBL recently announced it was acquiring a 20 percent stake in that project.

Deal could lead to Elvis-themed casino

By ARNOLD M. KNIGHTLY
REVIEW-JOURNAL

Elvis Presley could be making a return to the Strip.

New York-based entertainment group CKX, which controls the late singer's image, announced Friday it was paying $100 million for a 50 percent stake in FX Luxury Realty, part of a group has a 13 percent stake in Riviera Holdings Corp. and a separate investment in 18 acres on the Strip.

CKX owns licensing rights to the names and images of Presley and Muhammad Ali, and operates Presley's Graceland estate. It also owns rights to "American Idol" and similar programming in other countries.

FX Luxury plans to develop Elvis- and Ali-themed projects in Las Vegas, according to a CKX statement.

"We have come to realize that there is substantial opportunity to capitalize on the Elvis Presley and Muhammad Ali assets in real estate and location-based attractions," CKX Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Robert Sillerman said in a statement.

The announcement was part of a larger move by CKX to take the company private in a deal that would give shareholders $1.33 billion cash and a stake in FX Luxury in exchange for their shares.

The deal involves Sillerman and CKX director Simon Fuller, creator of "American Idol."

Sillerman is part of the investment group Riv Acquisition Holdings, which has been trying to buy Riviera Holdings Corp.

Riv Acquisition made a $34 per share offer on May 16, following earlier offers of $27 per share and $17 per share.

Riviera Holdings is still reviewing the group's latestoffer.

If the buyout succeeds, Presley- and Ali-themed attractions could be part of the Riviera redevelopment on the Strip, someone familiar with CKX and FX Luxury said.

FX Luxury indirectly owns 50 percent of 18 contiguous acres of land on the southeast corner of Harmon Avenue and the Strip across from CityCenter.

The group has entered a binding agreement to acquire the remaining 50 percent for $180 million.

FX Luxury plans to pursue a mixed-use hotel-condominium-casino on the property. The land is now occupied by the Harley Davidson Cafe, Travelodge motel, and shops.

FX Luxury representatives could not be reached for comment Friday.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.

Cheers,
Kevin

I think the most interesting part of that announcement is what might happen to the land across from CityCenter on Harmon. An Elvis themed property over there will compete directly with the new Elvis stage show planned for CityCenter.

As for the Riviera:
Riviera Holdings is still reviewing the group's latest offer.
Riviera Holdings Corp doesn't like Riv Acquisition Holdings. Not only are they reviewing the offer, but they are actually suing Riv Acquisition Holdings to go away:

vegastripping.com has a review of planet hollywood...basically the casino is nice, everything else needs work or is getting work...

i thought tho, it would be interesting to see why the designers decided to repaint the tower. well, duh, because blue paint was ugly...no FUGLY, but i wonder what the designers were working towards with the blue paint and how/ why they decided last minute to change it. the reviewer at vegastripping.com call PR at PH a couple of times to see if the pool is getting renovated (they didnt think so) and when the rooms will be complete. would PR at PH now the above question?

also PH now has their sign up, well sorta, its only bare bones, but it seems abit narrower and shorter than i would think it would be.....

It was reported in a SEC filing a few months ago that Station Casinos and a partner had acquired all the land along the freeway from Palace Station all the way down to Desert Inn and west a few blocks, and that it would be a major mixed use development in the future. But there were no details at that time.

So yeah, that's the first I heard of an arena over there.

I wonder if they are confused with the Neon Lights development on the other side of the freeway? That has an arena in it's plans and a bunch of condo towers and was on the city planning agenda just last week.

I doubt Station Casinos will announce any new projects until after their privitization is finalized, though they did just apply for early grading on their Durango site.

Nice find mdiederi. While the design of the condo tower is nothing spectacular to me, it does fit in with with the whole Palazzo/Venetian complex better than I thought. When they first announced that the Condo would be a modern glass and steel tower, I was picturing something very different that would really clash with its neighbors, but they seemed to have blended it pretty well.

I do love how newer developments on the Strip are being built right up close to the road. It'l give the Strip a much more denser urban look.

Are there any renderings yet?

Part of the cost might be due to the rising cost of construction. After Hurricane Katrina and Rita the construction cost across the country have skyrocketed. At the Southern Gaming Conference a couple of weeks ago a person building a casino on the Coast said that construction costs have gone up 72% since 2005 and that was across the board, not just for the coastal region.

Anyone else notice blue is the new gold? city center, palms place, sky, fontainebleau, panorma, cosmo, almost PH, not to mention a bunch of planned projects. This town is always tearing down and rebuilding. By the time The Plaza is done what will be ready to come down? Who knows?!

I think it will have Encore on the building. If it said Wynn then the tourists couldn't tell the difference between the two buildings.

Would be funny if it said Steve.

The plans show Encore on the top of the building. With Steve Wynn, anything is subject to change, even after its done for that matter. But I think Encore will be the name you will see at the top of the new tower.

It looks great, 32 floors down, 28 left to go. The building should be topped off by November.

What is the difference between Wynn and Encore?

Encore will be approx 50 feet taller than Wynn but not as wide. Best way to compare Wynn to Encore is probably to compare Mandalay Bay to TheHotel

Can someone post good pictures (if anyone has them) of the Mandalay Bay and TheHotel properties, and also ThePlace condos if anyone has the plan. THanks so much!

So it's just some more suites/rooms(whatever you call it :), or are there going to be something else too?

Encore will basically be just a second hotel tower of the Wynn with 2,000 extra rooms and suites and a smaller casino than its big sister; approx 75,000 sq.ft as opposed to Wynn's 110,000 sq.ft. casino.

Nothing special (attraction wise) has been mentioned but with Steve Wynn you never know

I think Gilley's is the only reason the New Frontier is still standing...(it's the only reason why I have ever gone there). And, yes I will also miss the Mud wrestling, but more so, the topless slowmotion bull ridding.

ah gilley's what a legendary spot :)

I bet the Plaza will try to incorporate it somewhere into the new design...... ok i am kidding but it would be cool if they did; classy and not so classy all in one.

I was not on the forum when the Mandalay Bay was going up, but I see all the time people complaining about Trump's Towers being gold. Is/Was there any animosity towards this casino having the gold glass?

Nah its an old picture. originally THEhotel was just had the Mandalay Bay sign.

As for the gold comment when the Mandalay Bay tower was finished the gold was nice, only building on the strip with the gold glass and made it unique. THEhotel kinda made it a gold mess and if THEplace (horrible idea for a name) is built with the gold glass exterior it will be a gold nightmare in that area. MGM Signature also put up the gold with three towers. So when the plans for two 60 story to be built with gold glass you can see why people frowned upon it.

We didn't like gold then and we don't like is now. Gold is tacky and cheap looking. There are those who do like gold, but I think us gold haters are a majority.

From the correct angle you would see Steve on one tower and Wynn on the other. That WOULD be funny! Of course then Trump would have to put DONALD on the top of his second tower.

A shameless plug, but one I love. :) I visit your site often. It's great and keeps me update. BTW, I saw something incorrect on the site and emailed you, but never got a reply back. It was concerning the Boca Raton, a complex you had listed at 12 stories and 146 feet, but in its built form appears no such thing.

Sorry about that, I try to answer them all but some fall through the cracks.
I need to call the VG folks to get a solid answer and then I will fix the issue.

Shamless, maybe...but a good source is a good source (even if I say so myself)

I love that site, and it is awesome to meet you. I am from Biloxi, and I wish someone would do a site like your site for Biloxi, although there is not nearly as much going on. The guy I sit next to at work is going to Vegas this weekend and I am really jealous because he doesn't care about what he sees as long as it has boobs and a beer (nothing wrong with that but he could care less about the projects going up)

How long until the extension of the Monarail is completed to the airport or have they even started?

(ps~Jazfingr you could say on the site that the Beau Rivage was built in Biloxi because Steve had to have that name near water and the design would have just been to hard to do in Las Vegas. In Biloxi the water was already there ;) )

I like Wynn's first tower and I like how he named the second Encore. Trump's tower is nice but just like with every other building from him it is called Trump.

Jazfingr - first off, I really enjoy VT&T... :worship:

I noticed on your maps, 2 interchanges that would help traffic quiet a bit (the bridge @ Harmon/Valley View to cross I-15, and the bridge and redesign @ Industrial to MLK that would cross I-15)... Do you have any kind of time table for these projects or are they just pipe dreams???

Thanks everyone, for the kind words. :D

Both of those road projects are proposed and the map reflects the actual plans. I suppose funding is the bottleneck at this point. No news on this lately. Does anyone else in here know more details about them?

Also, special thanks to Mdiederi and Beats281 for the fantastic photo contributions which help keep VegasTaT current :worship:

Doing all this from the OC is a challenge, but I plan on moving to Vegas next year (if I can convince myself to tolerate the friggin heat).

The MLK/Industrial connector is part of Project Neon, an NDOT project that also includes widening the 15 between Sahara and the spagetti bowl and improving the off ramps, on ramps at Sahara and Charleston, among other things.
http://www.ndotprojectneon.com/
According to their website they are in the middle of the environmental study and construction is expected to begin in 2011. I don't know about the funding though.

Does anyone have information about the alzheimers center? I remember they had a ground breaking like a couple months ago. Is it under construction?
