Welcome Sperman.

Both Palazzo and Encore will be self contained resorts.
They each have their own casino, shops, restaurants, pools, spas, and front desks. They will, however, be run as one giant resort (accounting-wise) and their room count will be combined. When open Venetian/Palazzo will be the largest resort in the world with over 7,000 rooms.:D

Welcome to the forum Sperman!

Palazzo is it's own resort with casino and amenities but will also connect with Venetian.

Trump does not have a casino because it is built as a boutique non smoking hotel for those who do not want the long walks, smokey, noisy casino experience.

Hope that helps.

I saw something going on behind Caesar's a while ago, today I saw actual cranes, 2 to be exact. Pretty sure it has to be for the new tower.

Palazzo podium actually looks nice, love the greenery on top. Amazing what some awnings can do to the look as well.

Also they say they're going to have a new Grand Lux Cafe. Does this mean the original one is closing, or are they going to keep both?

GLC in the Palazzo is going to be more for banquets and very large parties. The one in the Venetian will operate as normal, although it will close temporarily for a thorough cleaning seeing that it has never closed since 99.

The proposal for the World Jewelry Center is going before the City Planning Commission on November 29 with a proposed height of 800 feet.

In reference to the Superfish mentioning that the Smith Center had been modeled off the Hoover Dam.
I hadn’t noticed it before, but looking at the latest pictures the Palazzo, it looks as if it has also borrowed many architectural features from the Hoover dam.

Sweet! Too often a large mixed use structure ends up looking like two or three buildings piled on top of eachother--here it's gracefully integrated. A final product aproximating this would look great. Love the silver(World Jewelry Center ought to resemble a precious metal, no?), and narrow/slenderness. Too bad about yet another hulking parking garage(perhaps a more metallic silver exterior would help), it certainly beats having a surface parking lot of yesteryear. I suppose it would be more costly to put 12 floors of parking beneath the structre. Looking forward to seeing this new tallest in the ever-changing Vegas skyline.

interesting news about crown (i think that name is silly)

i herd on the news about the 2 million people mark was passed - thats great - i wonder if dec 2007 was the predicted date for that to happened or if we are slower/ fast on growth predictions.......what caught me by suprise was the news guy said that in 2010 (3 years away!) clark county will hit the THREE million person mark....is that right?!

Superfish
Dec 7, 2007, 4:32 AM
Nah, 2010? that's a bit far fetched as growth is actually slowing.

2015 is what I've heard myself several times which is more likely, even with growth slowing.

The regional planning commission says 3.5 million by 2035, reflecting the slowdown.

As always major changes in economic and other factors can easily accelerate or slow the trend beyond what this prediction says.

lfc4life
Dec 7, 2007, 4:32 AM

ScottG

the news guys must have had it wrong - or he meant 3 million in NEVADA. who knows

fountainbleau it a large project - just get larger. the podium in the back is half the height the height of the existing 4 turnberry towers, the main hotel tower is the closest tower to the street yet, and it is lllllaaaarrrrggggeee. now they are even working on the front podium, the cores for several elevtor shafts or in and there are lots of them, looks like the fron podium will be just as tll as the back....

basically the entire land will be built up right against the sidewalk.

i work at the firm that is doing the fountainbleau - and i saw photos of a model - is will be great - the front will have a play of lcd screens in different and akward shapes that have not been done in vegas yet - for instance a triangular screen from ground to the roof titled toward the sidewalk.

they are playing with a couple designs for the top signage, how to display the name - or not - or abbriviated.

ive seen some renderings similiar to the night shot that was released earlier - showing the lighting of the tower - i think only the top partion will be lit.....and in blue....so that place will be a bit dark at night - other than the sever lcd screens (i do mean alot - planet hollywood has nothing compared to how FB will have - entire walls of screens....)

I haven't seen Palazzo yet - maybe it will be better when they open in mid-January.

I agree from the photos I've seen about PH. Looks awful and it would seem like that would be an easy upgrade since they spent $1 billion or whatever it was. How hard is it to light a building? Maybe a lot harder than I realize. The PH lighting sends the subtle message that this is a dard, dead place - totally opposite to the entire idea of the makeover. A vibrant white-red building would be great. Maybe it costs a fortune to light the entire buildign at night?

neworleans
Dec 9, 2007, 7:07 PM
where is the roof of the PH that was suppose to look like a giant globe of the earth? Everytime i think of Planet Hollywood i think of the giant globe. The new façade reminds me of bubble rap. The entire front of the building that was redesigned doesn't even go with the rest of the building.
can someone get a picture to show everyone what the ph looks like?

Just a little tidbit, but there used to be 36 planet hollywood locations in the U.S. Now there is only 6. (to see which ones are still open and which ones closed, you can look on planet hollywood wikipedia). So its no surprise that the ph casino is so unattractive to me, because they have been known for making stupid decisions.

During the day i think that the palazzo looks great. it is now my favorite. but i have not seen it at night yet.

lfc4life
Dec 9, 2007, 9:21 PM
from reading other articles the upgrade of PH cost roughly $150 million, the $1 billion figure is including the PH towers being built.

i like the new look actually, its rather unique in las vegas, that amount of flash, the old aladdin was bland beyond belief and something drastic was needed

the globe on the roof idea was scrapped in favour of a more down-to-earth design

Yesterday James Packer's Crown Limited bought 100% of Cannery Casino Resorts, for $1.8 billion in cash. The acquisition includes the Cannery in North Las Vegas and the $250 million Eastside Cannery, which is being built to replace the Nevada Palace on Boulder Highway. Cannery also manages the Rampart Casino in the JW Marriott in Summerlin. They also own a temporary casino next to the Meadows Racetrack outside Pittsburgh. The company is building a $155 million permanent facility at the racetrack. The Cannary was 58% owned by Bill Paulos and William Wortman. According to a post on the twowayhardthree blog, Paulos worked for Kerry Packer in the 1990s, and was in charge of the Crown Melbourne when it opened. Paulos and Wortman will stay with the company for at least two years. So it seems these are people Packer already knows and it's his way of getting some experienced Las Vegas management on his team so he'll be ready for the bigger projects on the Strip. And also this way he will be licensed in Nevada way before the Strip properties are finished.

The exterior facade is a combination of faux stone panels and aluminum framed glass curtain wall systems

Total floor space = 15,080,846 square feet

4,100 rooms
2,600 condominiums
175,900 square feet of casino area
134,500 square feet of restaurant area

At the planning meeting where all the Turnberry residents showed up to complain about the convention center, the Font representative said that they actually already had permission from the FAA to go higher. Also, I remember when they were building the foundation it looked like they made a change and beefed it up and some of us speculated that they did that in case they might go higher. Just speculation, mind you.

Mark,

Awesome photos as always! Love the Trump-colored tumble weed in the foreground with the unique view of Trump.

Also nice action shot of the Cosmo/Strip scene.

The more photos the better -- thanks for your work ---

Are those turds the next to go on the South Strip? I think the ideas/themes are good but they should start over and do them in style. That would make that corner a great scene.

I read that Tropicana is having big time problems. MGM keeps itching to find the next project/parter, it seems.

Also just added a bunch of photos to the CityCenter construction thread (http://forum.skyscraperpage.com/showthread.php?t=109405&page=13).

I checked out the CityCenter link. AWESOME shots!

One guy said that the renderings didn't do the project justice - wow! The renderings looked fantastic and I thought it would not live up to the hype. I will be there in two weeks to see it in person. Looking good! Very interesting stuff.

After more than one year off I made it back to Vegas for a weekend. Here's my first picture. There was not a cloud in the sky for 2 days. It seemed a little hazy or dusty but this picture brings out the blue sky in Vegas. I think this is the way Donald Trump would like his building photographed.

Good "hero" shot Hans. What's going on with the windows? Is the color change just from cleaning?

Looks like it. You can see a window washing scaffold on the left.

The Recent Picture on Vegastodayandtomorrow.com shows Streamline as being a beige color. Which one is it?
