Emporis (http://www.emporis.com/en/wm/ci/bu/sk/li/?id=101318&bt=2&ht=2&sro=0) used to be a good site for that, but it looks like it hasn't been updated in a while, they don't even have Fontainebeau listed and Trump and Palms Place are listed as still under construction.

I think Krases was being sarcastic. You can use THIS website to see all the diagrams.

They plan on finishing the podium so they can have a new night club. Barneys is already opened, it's next to the podium. I also thought there was supposed to be a walgreens as well. Las Vegas Sands doesn't own the land, they kind of own/rent the airspace above the land if that makes sense.

This is what was clearly stated in the LVS Q3 Conference Call for all of you that just say things without knowing any facts or doing any research:
"We have slowed or indefinitely suspended our St. Regis condo tower here in Las Vegas. We are completing the podium of that building. The podium contains another mega club that's similar to TAO and LAVO that will be developed as part of the first portion of the project. Once, again, the tower will be indefinitely suspended. If market conditions change, then there is a condominium market, and things like that, we can revisit it, but for now, we're indefinitely suspending that."
I do believe there is supposed to be a wallgreens in there somewhere or at least they do have an interest in the project.

Three More Indian Companies Join Growing List of WJC Participating Firms
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

When the World Jewelry Center (WJC) trade tower opens in Las Vegas near the end of 2011, there will be a large number of Indian companies with offices throughout the building.
The recent signing of Dharmanandan Diamonds, Shefi Diamonds, and Vishal Diamonds to reserve space in the WJC further expands the growing number of WJC participating firms which are Indian, or have Indian ties.
Currently, the WJC has 26 Indian companies from around the world, which comprise some 15 percent of the 149 total participating firms. Seven of these companies are DTC sightholders or affiliated firms.

http://www.worldjewelrycenter.com/newsletter/October 22, 2008 (http://www.worldjewelrycenter.com/newsletter/2008/10/)Despite these challenges, we at the World Jewelry Center are proud to announce an important new milestone, as our 150th company has signed to reserve space in the WJC trade tower. These 150 firms span every sector of the gem, jewelry, and watch industries, and represent 24 countries on five continents, including 20 states in the U.S.We are also continuing to fine-tune our design criteria and proceeding with the customary value engineering that is associated with every project of this size and magnitude. We want to make sure that the complex is as efficient as possible for our clients and for our future retail visitors to the trade tower. This will be an exciting new marketplace where retailers will come to buy. Groundbreaking is planned about a year from now, with completion of our project anticipated by the end of 2011.

That would be great timing. As soon as the tallest hotel building opens, the next tallest begins.

It's looking more and more like downtown being the last bastion of construction during the recession, after years of sitting on the sidelines during the strip boom. The irony that would be.

Yes, I think you probably just read this CNN article-

http://www.cnn.com/2008/WORLD/europe/12/11/diamond.record/index.html

Far as I know, the tall downtown projects were mostly condos, which I don't see any being built for a while with exception of those connected in Union Park.

There were a few hotels, like that 700ft Grand Central one and Allure 2 was to be a hotel also, they are probably going to be delayed until the strip hotel economy comes back.

HOLY CRAP ITS SNOWING OMG.

Any other Vegas locals seeing snow?

Yes, it's currently snowing near the airport. It's about 11:00.

I’m not sure if selling Treasure Island is a good thing or not.
I really didn’t like a lot of the changes MGM made to property:

The new sign and the Name change to TI
The New show
Gutting the facade to put in Tangerine

More competitors on the strip is definitely a plus.
It’s also nice to see MGM’s special brand of generic may be slowing.
However, it was sold to Ruffin. I can’t say I was too excited about how the Frontier was run.
I’m worried he might neglect the that gorgeous property, until it falls apart.
Hopefully he will just resell it.

In the meantime, mud wrestling pirates can’t be much worse than the Siren’s show.

The Frontier was a dump, but I think Ruffin was appealing to a certain demographic with that property, budget conscience tourists looking for a cheap place to stay on the strip. His plans for Montreux looked to be a lot more upscale than the Frontier ever was, so hopefully he can inject more life in Treasure Island. I had always thought if I could ever buy a hotel on the strip, it would be Treasure Island. It's a great property with lots of potential.

I wouldn't doubt if the property were to get another huge overhaul soon with the casino areas finally completely remodeled. The rest of the property has a very 60s modern-chic look to it now, something along those lines would be nice, with a Bombay influence.

I kind of like whats been done with the property, minus the new signage. The new outdoor areas overlooking the lagoon was IMHO a great way to go... it brings a lot more energy to the strip..

The Sirens show is a bust though, although I am not sure how much longer the Pirate show would have lasted, even with the Pirates of the Caribbean hoopla. It could be the right time to bring back an updated version of the old show, as it's been a few years now since Sirens took over.

Hopefully they don't close down my beloved Canter's Deli!

Wow- big updates all around today. The sale of TI was unexpected, but it does make sense in this market. I'm all for diversification amongst Strip owners, and out of all of MGM's properties, this one makes the most sense. I can't see them giving up any flagships (MGM Grand or Mirage) nor can I see them breaking up the Mandalay Mile.

What is the vacant area to the right of the Cosmo? Wasn't a roof pool supposed to be in that area?

The glass that's being inserted into the staggered framing on the podium has the same "vent" grates as the Harmon. Am i correct in assuming it is a vent of some sort? If that is what it is for, could someone tell me why these vents would be placed on lower levels?

Yes, and much more flexible for the rent-seekers. They can demand that additional tax revenues be spent on their pet projects no matter what happens to the weather. ;)

There is welding going on just about 24/7 - the tall cranes seem to start moving around 3:00 am, but most of the workers appear before 7:00 am and leave around 4:00 pm.

Please tell me someone there in Vegas got some killer snow shots of the skyscrapers on the strip! My girlfriend lives there and has an amazing view from her high rise, but her camera is in the shop so I'm missing out

Sucks to hear about Manhattan West. My gf works right next door, and she's been watching the construction. We even toured through the sales office just for the heck of it. Hopefully they'll get the funding to finish it off soon.

Looks like most of the snow was in the south east part of the valley, someone I know near Railroad pass (on the way to Boulder City) got about 8" yesterday. I live on the west side near Summerlin, and we only got 3/4 an inch, and most of it melted before 8pm even. It was almost all gone when I got up this morning.

Fantastic shot mac78130! Not only does it do a great job showing just Fontainbleau dominates most of the area but also the mountains in the background are impressive as well!

Please post a link to the photo crediting who took it. As a photographer, I thought you'd do that automatically.

Great photo, BTW.

Drove down to the Venetian today. The mountains looked amazing. I have lived here for 18 years and that's the first time I have seen the mountains all around the valley covered in snow, usually its just the western and maybe northern mountains.

They brought in a big crawler crane to the Ruvo building in Union Park last night and started piecing together Gehry's twisted facade today.

Not Las Vegas per se, but most of the visitors to this thread are familiar with the massive Coyote Springs development in the works(about an hour from Las Vegas). Anyway, I came across this interesting tidbit in the Reno Gazette Journal:

Casino zoning OK'd in Coyote Springs (http://www.rgj.com/article/20081219/BIZ/812190475/1071/BIZ)

LAS VEGAS -- Clark County commissioners have approved rezoning 125 acres in the remote Coyote Springs development to allow a hotel-casino.

Former U.S. Sen. Richard Bryan represented developer Harvey Whittemore. He told commissioners that rezoning before home lots are sold will avoid future land-use conflicts.

The 43,000-acre community is 55 miles north of Las Vegas along U.S. 93. It has basic roads and a golf course that opened in May.

The commission also OK'd general plans for a 200-foot hotel-casino tower, restaurants, spa, convention space and a live entertainment venue.

Two partners in Coyote Springs Investment are principals with Peppermill Casinos Inc., which owns hotel-casinos in Reno and West Wendover.

did the shade of blue glass change or is it because the lower section of glass are dirty?

It's probably more like the latter--and I think it's more like there's a protective film when it's first installed. Remeber how the Trump glass changed reflectivity when that was being completed? I suppose it could be dust or even frost, too! I'd expect it to be uniform in the end.

^^
BTW, davidcharles: Welcome and thanks for the more personal display of LV snow!

I am sure it is just the dirty glass...
The thing that bothers me is the change from a chamfer to a point on the floors on the left side of the tower. Kind of random. You think if you were going to do that, you'd do it right above the mechanical floor. Must be where the residences start?

I have a pic from today but am having problems figuring out how to post.. hmm.

Maybe for special guests only. It was not scheduled to open to the general public until 8 p.m. Las Vegas time, which is still nearly 4 1/2 hours in the future. The time that shows up on this page is, I believe, Greenwich time. The previous message was posted at 8:09 p.m. Greenwich time, not Las Vegas time.

Thanks for that clarification... I left Vegas today around noon and was bummed that it didn't open at midnite like we thought it would. I really wanted to get a first glimpse to see everything before it was "touched."

Mirage's new volcano went bust three times at the 9pm show Sunday night. Halfway through each time (right to the first majore explosion) it would deactivate. Many people were booing outside... what a shame! I saw the show several times upstairs from the Penthouse level, I'm sure it will be impressive when they can get it to work consistently. The fountain of fire effects are spectacular and when the show is playing you can feel the windows in the room (even up at the top floor) begin to shake.

Treasure Island's Staff morale seemed to be very high this past weekend. Most of the employees I talked to were very happy or unphased by the recent purchase.

Still some activity at "The Condo Formerly Known As St. Regis." I know they're finishing the podium... it's nice to know that they will not just leave it with the steel exposed.

Cosmo is looking a lot better, CityCenter is too. The scale of both projects are very intimidating when you walk next to them. F-Blue and Sky frame that portion of LV Blvd very well... almost resembles a gate at the North part of the Strip.

Regarding the special installation being installed at CityCenter by WET Designs, does anyone want to speculate on what you think it would be?

Happy Holidays to all!!!
