i understand what you're getting at solediavolo, but all the structures at citycenter are far enough away from the MC tower that it still gives each room a large panoramic view... i [/URL]
Oh, I hear ya. That's why I said in my post, "To be clear, my thoughts were eventually based on pictures of the new Cirque theatre which is right there, looking over the pool. Not the further off high rises."
I was pretty much talking about the theatre, which every time I look reminds me of Paulie Walnuts sitting outside Satriale's butcher shop, tanning with that reflective metal thing. It just looks like one ginormous reflective tanning thingamajing. So I guess that's actually perfect for a pool setting.

no the wave pool and lazy river are still there, you can still see them in one of mac78130 photos that he uploaded (http://forum.skyscraperpage.com/showpost.php?p=4408092&postcount=7216) they reduced the size of the area, the wave pool is now right up against city center so much less place to lounge around and the tennis courts are gone

From Mandarin's Facebook:
"Mandarin Oriental, Las Vegas, opening December 2009, has been fitted with two oversized building wraps on the hotel’s south exterior and Strip-side ballroom. The building’s south-facing façade is adorned with a 144-foot by 144-foot “We ‘Fan’ Vegas” screen wrap, a playful pictogram using the Group’s well-recognized symbol – the fan. The Strip-side ballroom’s floor-to-ceiling glass windows are fitted with a colorful version of the hotel Group’s celebrity fan campaign. Twelve of the Group’s most recognizable fans will overlook the Strip-front Grand Ballroom. The Mandarin Oriental ‘Fan’ campaign features celebrity “fans” who regularly stay at the hotels and consider themselves to be fans of the Group."

Looks so good. Only three months to go!
About Fontainebleau, it is a shame that banks had to abruptly cut funding, however the project did require an amount of credit that simply isn't available in this market. Their best hope is mediation between the banks and a combination of investors to get the project finished.
Also sad is that Bofa valued the project at 1.76 billion when it would require 3.2 billion. Almost devalued by half!

New interview with MGM CEO Jim Murren:
http://www.cnbc.com/id/32642315
He says CityCenter condo price adjustments will be available in Oct. along with financing options for buyers.
Interestingly enough he says MGM has sold more than 70 percent of condo product at CityCenter. That wouldn't be possible unless they took out Vdara's unsold inventory, which would mean they will likely absorb more than half of the units there.
Those units will probably be the inventory for when the hotel opens in Dec., since closings for Vdara were scheduled for Feb. - Mar. 2010.

Was in Vegas for a couple of nights last week. A few comments governing City Center:
1) It is truly an amazing project in terms of size and scope. Extremely tall, extremely dense, and very modern!
2) Poor Monte Carlo Hotel. Can't even see the damn thing anymore! :)
3) Construction, construction, construction! I stayed at Planet Hollywood, and I couldn't get to the parking garage without a half-hour of gridlock no matter which way I went! The Strip, Tropicana, Harmon, Koval, all a nightmare! :(
4) I wonder how many of the units are REALLY sold already, and I wonder how many more hotel rooms are REALLY needed... Will the project be half-empty or more for years to come?

it depends on which angle you're looking at it from. there is still a huge section where it is highly visible. i know because i was looking at it and thinking about it last time i went down there. yes, from the north you can't see it, but you can't see the luxor either.

LV certainly now has its most visible store on the strip. The scale of the store will probably make it the preferred location for high-end fans.
Here's the Tiffany Co. pic from the earlier post.

New LV Sun article about CityCenter condo prices. They expect a 30 percent cut and possible change of Vdara from condo hotel to hotel; however both are speculation and unconfirmed.

Was "condo" removed from the Vdara website (http://www.vdara.com/)? I swear it said condo hotel under Vdara near the opening countdown?? Under the about section (http://www.vdara.com/about/) Vdara is described as an all-suite boutique hotel, not sure if it always said that or if it was recently changed?

I don't think they used the 'condo hotel' scribe under Vdara for the main hotel website. Though, it was always used in the sales brochure items for CityCenter.

Good for them. I thought they were aiming for Silver and they actually got Gold!
Looks like it should follow up with LEED certification for Mandarin, Crystals and Veer.
To be able to market Aria and Vdara as the first Gold certified LEED hotels will be quite a marketing feat.

Las Vegas sun has a good article (http://www.lasvegassun.com/news/2009/sep/15/potential-buyer-negotiations-stalled-fontainebleau/) on it.
It wouldn't surprise me if Apollo Management bought it and handed it over to Harrah's. I think Harrah's can see the bottom of the economy and wants to buy up property before the prices gow up again.

New PR from MGM Mirage. Includes a new video and further details each facet of the project.

Now that the final buildings are all in place the large, medium, small from left to right doesn't seem so bad. With Harmon shorter, Vdara actually does a nice job to bookend the property and provide a sense of depth.
