Im excited for this project . Its in a Low rise part of downtown which means were adding density. Not only that the transition to a major city center occurs less dramatically than plopping a sky scraper next to a ranch home ;)

Ooooh, pretty happy the Sahara coaster isn't going too far. That is one of my favorite coasters. It was SO easy to get on, never a wait, ride it as many times as you want for a small fee, and it was buttery smooth. Loved it, was sad to see it go, but happy to see it making a comeback. Figured it'd turn up somewhere.

i know im skeptical, but I HIGHLY doubt BOTH 'wheels' will get built. I say, it looks like 'skyvue' is playing poker-face with Caesars, trying to make them buy them out so there is only one 'wheel' in vegas.

I also, think caesars is calling their bluff.

Didnt skyvue announce that a smaller wheel will go in first, that the money from that and the retail leases will pay for the large, LED laced version?

It would be stupid and moronic to have TWO wheels in one city. (why the county approved BOTH is beyond me, knowing that other developers were planning the same thing_ they too were probably skeptical that one would eventually drop out).

Mark my words, both wheel swill not get built. My bet is on caesars seeing completion WITHOUT having to buy out skyvue. (even though the location of the linq wheel is a bit questionable and lacks prime real-estate for views).

Its a race, literally to see which wheel gets higher in the sky, but am I the only one finding it impossible to see TWO circles in the las vegas skyline.

Just came back from Vegas. I saw the Fountainebleu. Such a shame how something so big is just sitting there. I took a tour, and they said it was 65 percent done and then was bought. They said the owner could finish it but at the cost of cutting the number of rooms in half which I don't know how that could work, or he could scrap it and get three times the amount he bought it for. I hope he opens it, it's too far in the process to be scrapped.

It's sad about the Fountainebleau and all, but personally I've never been a fan of that building. It's a heavy, dominating, and sterile design—more befitting of a downtown corporate HQ than a stylish vegas hotel. If they knock it down, I won't cry.

Downtown’s Former Fitz Loses Its Neon Bling

http://lasvegasblog.harrahs.com/las-vegas-hotels/downtowns-former-fitz-loses-its-neon-bling/

WTF is wrong with people, doesn't Vegas have any historic preservation messures? Anyone know if the Neon Sign Boneyard is taking this. I remember they offered to take the old Frontier Sign but Wynn had it destroyed because he claimed it was an eyesore infront of his resort. Atleast Reno still has a Fitzgeralds.

Why can't any of the newer Casinos come up with decent signage considering their budgets are so high compared to the 1950's and 60's?

Hopefully it turns out better than the renderings.
It looks really cheap and generic to me.
Even more so than the Outdoor Premium Outlet Mall.

Compared to the the other malls, and the LINQ project, this looks down right disappointing.
I suspect it will do alright, due to it's location. Of course there's no guarantee, look at Hawaiian Village.
(Great Location, Looks Kinda Cool, Half Empty)
I hope this isn't a new direction for Vegas.

Admittedly, I don't know how the light show will look.
Maybe it will sell the project for me.

Until then,

SXSW rolls the dice and heads to Vegas with new component SXSW V2V
By Caitlin M. Ryan
10.23.12 | 01:06 pm

We couldn't avoid it forever. Austin's most beloved behemoth, SXSW, has finally realized its full potential and will tap into another market this summer — a dry, arid up-and-coming (more on that later) unexpected market by the name of Las Vegas, Nevada.

But before the Austin-based masses panic and sling mud accusing SXSW of selling out, this was a carefully orchestrated choice of programming and location by the heads of the organization — and they have no intention of uprooting from Austin.

JoninATX
Oct 24, 2012, 1:10 AM
I know SXSW will never leave Austin, but it's great to see SXSW expanding to other cities like Las Vegas as well.

Whats the status of the wheels?

I haven't heard anything in a while, nor seen any pictures...does anyone know the timetable on these builds?

The Linq is set to open end of 2013 and about SkyVue there are rumours they ran out of money....

The legs for the Linq's High Roller wheel are going up now. You can see them in the livecam.

The Linq is set to open end of 2013 and about SkyVue there are rumours they ran out of money....

I heard a rumor floating around that the developer for Skyvue was a scam artist, the workers were not paid, and he ran off with the money!

I smelled something fishy with that development from the gitgo! It all seemed too presposterous, to build a ferris wheel in competition with Caesar's ferris wheel at Linq, knowing full well the tourists would flock to the Linq Ferris wheel rather than hike south to Skyvue!

But I may have it all wrong!

Nah, the Ryugyong Hotel dealt with worse for far longer and it's standing like a jewel right now. The Fountainbleu can handle a few more years.

In this desert climate, I agree! There's a concrete shell of a high-rise building started near Laughlin, a couple decades ago, it's still there, and there's still consideration being given to complete it.

This should teach our Clark County Commissioners a lesson or two, as I can't imagine a building like this standing uncompleted in NYC or Chicago, without some outrage. Same for the unfishined Echelon across the street, an even worse eyesore, both standing there uncompleted going on 5 years!

I happen to love the design for Fountainbleu, being a sucker for curves.

My sympathy goes out for the residents of Turnberry Place, that luxury condo development in back of it, who have to look out at that eyesore, with occasional windows popping out! I'm sure the Association there has considered lawsuits over it, if not already. Wouldn't blame them one bit!

If nothing else, turn it into a high rise seniors building!

Skyvue's financial troubles mount
http://www.lvrj.com/news/skyvue-s-financial-troubles-mount-187065001.html

MMC Inc., the contractor that has been building the foundations, filed a lawsuit in Clark County District Court late Monday to collect on $1.1 million in unpaid bills by foreclosing on the project.

All told, eight companies that have worked on Skyvue have filed liens for their work, including general contractor Ledcor Construction Inc. for $3.3 million, according to county records.

FN Spy the Magazine: Transforming Old Las Vegas

By WAYNE NIEMIo

A year ago, the walls of Tony Hsieh’s apartment overlooking downtown Las Vegas were plastered in Post-it notes and maps of the area as he began to brainstorm what the city’s Fremont East neighborhood could become with the proper attention and investment.

Now those plans are coming to fruition, and over the next six months the district will see rapid development. Already, new businesses have opened, construction projects have broken ground, tech firms have relocated — and that’s just a hint of what’s to come.

“Now that the land acquisition part of it is mostly done, we’re focusing more on building stuff or renovating space,” said Hsieh, CEO of Zappos.com and founder of the Downtown Project, a $350 million community investment fund he has bankrolled to help transform the downtown area of Las Vegas into a vibrant, community-focused place to work and live.

“In 2013, we will make monumental strides [in the development of the downtown area] simply because a lot of the infrastructure we’ve been planning for the last 12 months will finally start coming online this year,” said Fred Mossler, Zappos’ head of merchandising who is also an investor in the Downtown Project and serves as a strategist and mentor. “That’s only going to increase the energy level and activity downtown.”

A major part of the plan is the relocation of Zappos’ corporate offices to the Fremont East neighborhood, in the former City Hall building. While the company’s formal move of its roughly 1,500 employees won’t occur until September, several projects are already off the ground, thanks to funding and support from the Downtown Project. . .

I saw this thing when I was in Las Vegas last week, I thought it was for a new mono-rail. Then I saw the Ferris Wheel design on the back of the Quad Hotel... interesting stuff...

I also thought the Skyvue was a monrail connection being built for Luxor and Madalay Bay... duh!
