I think its time to buy a new car. I've spent $2600 in repairs the last two months on my Nissan (roughly $7000 since last September in total repairs). I'm looking at the new VW Rabbits (well, they're not "new" in Europe, but whatever) and like what I see.

Suggestions? Comments?

VW's and German cars in general are not very reliable. They're great performance vehicles and lookers, but unless you're still under warrenty you're screwed with costly repairs on them. I'd look to a Japanese or South Korean, even American cars have better warranties right now than the German brands.

What do you do when you realize you suck at your job (well, 2 of the 3), hate your life (80 to 85 hour work weeks suck), lost all contact with (former) friends, and can't keep up with the cost of living expenses in Orange County while trying to pay off student loans and car repair bills?

What kind of brick wall? I moved back with my folks during the summer between undergrad and Law School. I hated it because they tried to intrude in my independence WAY too often. As long as boundries are set and you "respect the rules of the house" I suspect everything should go okay.

I would move back to Phoenix, Buckster. Get a rest, catch up with old pals, and get a temp. job to build up a pile of money. Staying in Orange County would likely mean remaining in the status quo, no? At least a move back to Phoenix would guarantee something different and likely for the better.

I think I need to come clean about something I've been hiding. People seem to suspect that I am, and a few even inquire about it. Hell, some of you have probably figured it out, even though I've denied it in the past. I've usually tried to hide it, but sometimes I "slip up" and my true feelings are obvious. I've left my Facebook profile ambiguous to say the least, but one quick search of my friends reveals the truth. I've known since childhood and publically I've been able to "act" the other way for the few year successfully. I don't feel that I can "hide" it any longer, especially since my boss found out. The only thing left for me to do is to get a bumper sticker on my car...

I voted for Gore and Kerry, but I will NOT vote democratic in 2008. Oddly enough, the wind is blowing the smoke away from where I live today. The Orange County fire was, unfortunately, started by some moron who decided that it'd be fun to go start a fire at 6pm on Sunday night while it was windy. I was working at the newspaper that night and we watched the flames climb up and down the ridgeline about ten miles from where we were. I've lived here for five years and up until now, have never seen a fire crest the foothills and make its way westward like it did the other night (and God knows there's been tons of fires out that way over the years, Santiago Canyon is a perennial tinderbox).

Yesterday sucked, though. The winds blew the smoke out in our direction and everything was a gross hazy yellow and it was damn hard to breathe. Needless to say, everything smells like smoke right now. Fortunately, the winds changed direction and I don't live anywhere near the foothills. However, until the winds die down, it'll be virtually impossible to try and contain the fires.

So long as it doesn't start raining ash like in 2003, we'll be alright. :)

California has a Pittsburg AND a Dublin.

But they're in NorCal, so you know, that doesn't count.

Well, when we're all up in smoke here in socal, then who's important?

Did I hear correctly? Did the guy on the news just say 900,000 evacuated?? :stunned:

Yeah, it might've passed the million mark by now. By far the worst of it is in San Diego County (where most of the evacuations are taking place). I watched the news last night, they're using Qualcomm Stadium (where the Chargers play) as a point of refuge, and it looked like a friggin' tailgate party down there. Fortunately, the winds are gone, its just hot now.

Seems to me, especially with high winds and falling ash, that an open-air stadium isn't the best place to keep out the elements. I mean, at least the Superdome has a roof...

^Until the ash builds up and the roof caves in or maybe potentially melts like in Vancouver.

I hadn't been watching much news the last few weeks. The fires this year are just crazy scary. I'm hopeful the worst is over.

Well, so long as no more pyro douchebags get the bright idea to go running off into the foothills to start fires, things should be relatively calm by the weekend.

^ Are you insinuating it's not important now? :sly:
