There are also a number of threads out there that track skyscrapers that people don't typically see. Here are some links :

Hong Kong is glassy!
Langham Place looks awesome as usual. Even though it differs a lot from the other structures in Mong Kong, it somehow fits in.

I can never remember which one is Highcliff, and which one is the Summit. :)

Great compilation, hkskyline.

I wonder if it can be traced back to this building for starting the unfortunate trend in China that is; 'balls on top syndrome'. It's a terrible disease that MUST be addressed.

There used to be an observation deck in that ball. I don't think many people knew about it actually. However, it closed since it is now a government-owned building (Chinese government, that is).

This building was completed in 1999.
I doubt that it started the trend. But I agree that the ball on top is not a good idea.

As long as there is reflective glass, the buildings won't be heat traps. However, since it gets quite warm for most of the year, air-conditioning is a standard feature (but not heating).

If only they had two... but yeah what’s the deal with the balls? In Dubai there’s a shit loads of ”balls”. Has it something to do with religion?

Hong Kong is absolutely incredible. At a Chinese restaurant I used to frequent in Kansas City, there was (is?) an incredible night aerial shot of Hong Kong that covers an entire wall of the restaurant. I used to just sit there and stare it while I ate. :) It was somewhat like jetsetter's here, but taken from a high angle looking down where you could see both sides of the bay in the same shot. Completely unreal. I wish I had a copy of it.

Anyway, great thread. Hong Kong is the definition of "urban." Dubai is still just a pretender. ;) Someday I hope to finally visit.
