I don't see any reason why they wouldn't use the one site cam for the whole project unless they move it over to 1010 when it's completed.
Also, there is only one more floor to pour before they start work on the actual tower!

Yes, 1010 is to the left of the building on the far left, but 12th & Midtown will eventually block the view of the building on the far left. If we are lucky the building formerly known as the MO will still be built and there will be no mistaking that building as it will be just to the right of the building on the far left.

Not to be too picky, but the Pinnacle is actually in Buckhead - it's the building with the curved cantilever glass top across Lenox Rd. from the mall. The building on the far left of that picture is 1100 Peachtree.

Nah, because it will only be on one side (the west) and the zoning requires them to step up in height, so the tallest that will be on the park is four floors. Clearly a far cry from the wall of urbanism surrounding Central Park.
But I know what you're getting at :)

GThomas, looks good but a work of caution! I was attempting to shoot 1010 from the sidewalk along 11th street last weekend and a security guard stopped me and said i could not take photos from FRB property even though i was photographing the building across the street, 1010. I told him i was on a public sidewalk which police had informed me was OK for picture taking. FRB security said i would have to stand in the street to be out of their 'jurisdiction'. I shoot the same view as yours across the FRB lawn as well and that too in now 'off limits' or so i'm told. I am attempting to get clearance from FRB law enforcement but no one there will return my calls. The guard did give me a name to contact at FRB at least. Just be aware the FRB has cameras all over the place watching everyone so shoot and move along quickly. I am honestly beginning to feel like a 'photographic terrorist' every time i take a picture from a sidewalk or in front of a building!

Wow. I was actually eyed pretty hard by a guard because I had my pup with me, which was walking on the FRB grass. I guess he had stopped paying attention once I started snapping shots. I actually was on the lawn on a concrete structure at some point, so thanks for the info! :)

While it feels like the pace of construction has slowed at 1010 for the past two weeks, it is only because the formwork for the swimming pool/recreation deck is more complex than the parking decks below. But the pool was poured Thursday, and the remainder of the top floor above the parking pedestal should be finished soon. After that, the smaller curved tower should begin to rise quickly. I think this is going to be a very special building.

I would have to agree. When I first saw it, I thought it looked like Metropolis... (sigh). I hope the architects at Smallwood Reynolds Stewart and Stewart are paying attention to this development as they finish designing the Mandarin Oriental. Especially considering the rendering of the Mandarin already released looks to have the same blue green colored glass. I think we need a break from blue-green don't ya'll think?:slob:

Sep 24, 2007, 5:21 PM
Agreed. Hopefully this glass, once they get a lot more on, will start to appear darker. I would love to see something creative done with one of these glass towers - just something away from the ordinary green/blue or even black (a light red tint would be pretty cool). Either way, this building is starting to look fantastic, and already has a commanding presence on Peachtree.

Sep 24, 2007, 5:52 PM
:previous: I was actually thinking something very similar like a silver glass with a pink hue for the Mandarin would really set it apart from anything else in Atlanta today...
Anyway, it appears that in the newest rendering (posted in the AJC) that the glass is indeed greener than the model shows and Phase II has adopted the original blue glass. :sly:
whiplash3825
Sep 25, 2007, 8:34 PM
I'd be really surprised if Phase II doesn't have the same color glass as 1010, and I agree that we're getting too many buildings with that blue-green glass. I was also surprised to see the stainless-steel (appearing) trim around the glass... in the rendering it appeared black. Still, after all the square and rectangular buildings going up that curvy fascade is an awesome and welcome variation!

It's really showing in the skyline now. Most of the Novare/Wood condos are lined up so that the narrow side faces Peachtree, so they don't present much of a profile in the skyline in the N-S spine when looking at the skyline from the east or west.
However this building runs with the long side parallel to Peachtree so it presents much more of a presence in the skyline.

There's a flurry of activity down in that hole today. The large mat for the shear wall on the south side of the block is being poured right now. You can also see the holes excavated for several pile caps near the southwestern corner of the lot. The excavations for the pile caps exposed the heads of auger cast piles that were drilled and poured earlier, and you can clearly see those piles on the webcam at http://www.oxblue.com/client/brasfieldgorrie/1010midtown/. One of the portable crane operators told me that many of those piles were drilled over 90 feet down, so this foundation has some very deep legs.

They just poured floor 33, so there are two more floors and (at least) a roof left. I'd imagine there will be some kind of mechanical penthouse as well.

Thanks for the photo update Père Goriot. Those are different angles from what we normally see on here.

This is awesome filler for Midtown.

This could very well be as tall as the building behind it. Much higher than I thought it would be

As of this morning, it looks like there are 31 floors built. The rendering shows 32 floors with an added rooftop mechanical level, so I think this thing is almost complete. It could be as tall as 1100 Peachtree directly behind it, which would be really cool.

I like this tower very well, the curve is very nice, better than Viewpoint and Spire. I'm not knocking Spire, got a good friend that lives on a large end unit 17th floor with incredible view of Midtown skyline and all its activity. Just more fill for Midtown, one of my favorite places.

Can't wait to see that stretch of Peachtree once 12th & Midtown tops out.

Pere Goriot, do you work at the PriceWaterhouseCooper building? Thanks for the photos.
