The new year party pictures are rocking.. Can’t believe it’s in Trivandrum.. I thought Cochin is the only place in kerala where people are modern; Looks like Trivandrum also changed…good.:P

Well Sreekumar, it is a misconception shared by many. I don't know how it has been formed. I've been to both places in the recent past and that's not true at all. In terms of night life, both cities have to do a lot of catching up with the other states in India, for better or for worse! :P Anyways, of late the New Year party scene has been way better in Trivandrum than Cochin. I was at one of the top resorts and it was crazy! :worship:

Heard the likes of Amartya Sen also landed up here. In the past, celebs like Richard Gere and Elton John have landed up regularly. In contrast, I saw that whatever celebrations that happened in Cochin were muted by protests against the execution of ol' Saddam.

Lol, I am sure that, except of Tikrit, that must be the only celebration to be affected in the world! Globalisation? :sly:

Lol, check the thread again, mate. I had personally had a discussion with Technopark officials on the same and the petrol bunk in question has already been taken over by GoK and a notice to proceed has been issued to Infosys to construct their 1.5 million sft campus. :)

Is that GIVE WAY sign for pedestrians or for on-coming vehicles in the above picture? Also, quite surpising to see a two wheeler already on the zebra crossing while there is a pedestrian on the zebra . Is that really a zebra crossing or a pelican crossing controlled by lights?

Good observation. Give way is for the free left to the pocket road and ofcourse yield to pedestrians. The red signal is for the pedestrian and I think he was stuck up and waiting in the median of the pocket road.

I think no body will deny the fact that this is the most beautiful avenue in the state. I thought of posting this since I have seen many of our fellow friends are thinking that these kinds of roads are built by Gov of Kerala. The below picture is the part of road from Kaudiar to LMS circle. I think my friends are not much aware of the history. They may be surprised when they come to know that this road had not been widened after the state formation (in 1956). The footways have the width of two line roads. So what the gov is spending is the cost of tar, paint,lamps and offcource the cost of the flower plants in the median. Compare this cost with building huge bridges over marshy land and also the cost of land acquisitions; it is negligible. Travancore kings had made enough infrastructures like roads, medical college, engineering college, airport, observatory, courts, sports clubs, golf clubs, KSRTC and research institutes. Many people are misunderstanding these as the developments by the state gov. After the 1956, only one major road was developed and that is the NH 47 bypass from Kazhakkuttom to Kovalam

Also there is some thing with geography. Most of the city area is not reclaimed from Paddy fields (except Thampanoor and East fort bustand areas).Also there are no need for many bridges/lengthy bridges. This helps to keep the maintenance cost of the roads to be low. I have seen places in other cities where 2-3 times tarring is not helping much. TRDP is the only major project going on currently for the road project, that is too after several years of negligence. Compare this with the cost of kilometers of bridges etc. But Of course we need to develop all the cities.

The scenic locale of Aakulam Lake is one of the tourist hotspots in Trivandrum. It is a typical example of the lush green areas found on the periphery of the city, strewn with back waters.

A mega International Convention Centre project, being developed by the K.Raheja Group is now coming up on its shores, as is a major water theme park.
At one corner of the frame, we can see the building complex for the National Institute for Speech & Hearing.

The Indian Air Forces' Southern Air Command is also located along the shore of Aakulam Lake.

Being close to the State's IT hub, Technopark, and renowned for its beauty, the area is becoming a hot destination for real estate developers. :)
