Yeah, you said it... that crane is really swaying in the wind. From my office it
looks like it could be swaying 4 or 5 feet. It also appears as if there is an automated
system to change the direction of the boom in the sky so that the boom is
in a direction that gives the least resistance to the wind.

Either its automated or simply acting like an old wind vane.
But it was rather interesting nonetheless

Hey thanks for the updates Innov8 -- been meaning to go down there and take a few myself -- I saw the crane last night coming back from Davis and is finally nice to see on the skyline -
It looks like you got to go up in 621 - how is the inside of the building coming along and did you get any sneak peaks at the lights on the crown? Also, where you took the pics looking down, is that like a permanent platform you can view out of that is located below the crown? I looked at pics of the crown and that space looks very narrow but in your pics, it looks like a lot of open room!

I'm far from anything resembling a structural engineer, but I'd hazard a guess that it simply isn't large enough to merit one. It's only 24 floors and one block away there's new building of similar size that was constructed in a same way-no core; just a steel frame.

BTW, what's that in the foreground from Natomas? Looks to be around 11-12 floors?
innov8
Apr 18, 2008, 7:17 PM
The spires about three floors high so with the additional three it should be
topped out. It will be about 30ft shorter than Wells Fargo tower.

in the proposal process a few hundred feet away.

That being said, there are still LOTS of gaps to be filled in. The skyline looks sparse from a few angles I can think of.

You really have found some wonderful vantage points to photograph the skyline.
Q: are the top few floors not FULL floors? Just pushed toward Capitol Mall with a big setback?

Right, I beleive they are tring to get a restaurant up there, one that takes both top floors.
Thanks plinko

Oww,wow,I like this one. It makes a nice filler, but its still noticible and has a great desighn.I kinda hope Sac doesnt get to much taller, cause theres not a single ungainly or ugly building around, sacramento is a really great city that I hope to see prosper. Thanks Fox,for introducing me to it:)

Hey awesome pics Innov8!!!! Looking good!!
It looks like they are taking their sweet time w/ the fire proofing though. Maybe that will speed up once all the steel is raised. Can't wait to see the emerald blue glass go in!!!!
Oh and I REALLY REALLY hope the restaurant deal on top of the building gets done!! That is what Sacramento is missing -- a place to eat w/ a view of the city that is not at ground (or at muddy river) level.

Great sunset shots, innov8. The cladding looks pretty good. Kind of po-mo, but still pretty nice.

More great shots, innov8. The skyline is looking great. And as others have said, you're finding some great vantage points of it.

Me too -- a replica of the Parthenon on top of a building would have just looked dumb! LOL!! This building is going to look soooooooo much better than it would have.

I agree. Parthenons suck! SPHINXES RULE!

The Parthenon was stupid, but the cladding pattern screams late-80's. Not much more to go.

This looks as if the U.S. Bank Building is squaring off with The Bank of the West (or 621 CM vs. 500CM).. The only problem is, 621 is actually a couple blocks further east down the Mall, so it looks shorter than 500CM...

Cool, can’t wait to see it. I’m working on one or two myself.
