Ok, what gives? These pictures of Bolivia appear very similar if not exactly like JeremyDC's pictures on "Chinas Mountain Roads" further down in the transportation forums.

Well, I found the pics in another forum and it said Bolivia. I also thought the name was strange to be bolivian, but it could be some indian language of course... Quechua?
But yes, might be China.

China or Bolivia?
Anyway, I have driven a similar road in the Taroko Gorge in Taiwan. It was quite scary when heavy rain started to pour down the gorge, and big rocks started falling down on the road...

Bolivia really seems to have a lot of dangerous roads. They also have the Yungas Road which is officially the most dangerous in the world with more than 200 deaths per year.

Thats prety insane...I mean i have been on some pretty bad loging roads before in BC, Canada but those were loging roads, barly used...This looks like a heavily used road which is insane, there must be alot of deaths with people trying to pass each other and the outer edge of the road giving away.

This is probably the most dangerous road in Brazil... well, actually not the most dangerous, but the most twisty. Since its so twisty, cars and trucks actually dont speed in it, so it has less accidents than some pretty straight and wide roads... its called Serra do Rio do Rastro Road, and it rises 1400 meters in 25 km of road. Its located in southern Brasil, near the Santa Catarina/Rio Grande do Sul border

at least there is space for two lanes of cars... and in many curves, there are "stops", so trucks who cant do the curve in only one lane (most trucks obviously) can stop and wait for the cars to pass before doing the curves.
http://www.oempreiteiro.com.br/100anos/images/400%20PIXELS/TERRA_DO_RIO_DO_RASTRO_112_113.jpg
but the asphalt is not the better and there are no side lanes for cars to stop if they have some problem.

http://www.terraeasfalto.com.br/penaestrada/campos_cima/paredoesdaserradocorvobranco.jpg
the fall is almost two times taller than Burj Dubai. But at least there are "steps" impeaching a free fall all the way to the bottom. So you wont die... so fast :)

^That looks a lot like roads in Wyoming: the Beartooth Hwy, Chief Joseph Hwy, and US 14A, also about 1400-1500m elevation changes in short distances. I drove them all in a hatchback (though not without consequences to the integrity of the vehicle). :P

The title of this post is incorrect !
The first set of pictures were taken in Sichuan Province,China as reported in thread # 115605.
There is no Stremnaya Road in Bolivia or anywhere else
that I can find.
The Yungas Road in the Zongo Valley in Bolivia is known
as the "Road of Death" as pictured in post #18, 21 & 24 .
This mistake is listed as fact on at least 6 different internet sites including this one.I hate it when something like this happens because it never seems to go away and all efforts to correct it seem pointless.
I think it would probably help if we found out the true name of that incredible road.
Does anyone know the real name of that road in China and exactly how to get there ?

I've been on the Yungas Road in Bolivia. It's an experiance and a half! The drops off the edge are very shear, and you can even see car parts strewn down the cliffs. Passing is scary stuff. But I survived and so do many other users. It's a very beautiful road although it takes a very long time to get to your destination as there are no bridges for valleys. I wasn't too woried throughout the trip but the person I was travelling with found it very difficult but got used to it after the first hour or two (three hour trip, one way). The drop from Bolivia to the town we visited, Coroico, for the day was over 2km, and I unfortunetly got a bad case of altitude sickness and ended out losing consciousness when we were back in Bolivia.
I think biking would be scarier! They have to contend with all those trucks, hairpin turns, dust thrown up from trucks and have to have major trust in their brakes.

That road in Bolivia has been clasified as the most dangerous road in the world. Well, Bolvia is the poorest country in South America, so they don't have many to repair it or make it safer. Chile sends humnitarian help to Bolivia.
