United Gulf Developments - condo/hotel towers
Architect: Hariri Pontarini Architects (www.hariripontarini.com/) (Toronto)
Height: about 85 metres
Floors: 27
Size: 700,000 sq. feet (250 residential units)
Cost: $150 million CAD
Status: Approved
Website: http://www.unitedgulf.ca/
Description: Two towers (one hotel, one condo) to be built on the former site of a 50s-era parking structure. The building will have street-level retail, as well as offices and conference space in the four-storey base. Various other features are also planned, such as streetscape beautification and a rooftop green space between the two towers. Groups such as the Heritage Trust of Nova Scotia say the building isn't "in keeping" with the surrounding buildings (which include the un-historic rears of two registered heritage buildings), and therefore shouldn't be built (:hell:) but it's likely it'll go through fine anyway. Construction should start sometime later in the decade!
