^ I also made a 3D model of the fully constructed Shanghai Tower in 3D Warehouse. (it sucks but the proportions are correct). Here's a link.

That's true.

I guess that the cladding will have several layers, the inner cladding outside the concrete tubes, and the outer cladding outside the atriums.
I wonder which one will come first.

No I haven't. Assume they've built underground passes or something like that?

That can certainly work on a practical level in terms of being able to get around. A good example is Singapore (where you'd rather be underground given the heat and the rain that seems to hit every afternoon right when you need to get to a meeting).

But I'm talking about more than being able to get around on foot. I just think it's out of scale and uninteresting at street level, other than staring up at the towers. My criticism is in the same vein as my comments in another thread about Le Corbusier.

Pretty amazing how they're building the framing for the outer glass wall of the atrium. Instead of building up, they're suspending it from above, using a cantilevered platform to support it as they move down. Whatever their reason for building it that way, it's pretty awesome to see.

I was there last June, and the pedestrian walkways and their version of the "high line" were being put in place. It was pretty easy to get around once I got out of the Bund tunnel drop off point and made it to the Pearl Tower.

It looked like the pedestrian walkway was being extended past the SWFC.

I cant wait to see this building when it is completed! Its official the Chinese are one of the best Skyscraper builders in the world! This building looks amazing in construction stages - i cant wait till it tops the Shanghai World Finanical centre - at the rate it is going that wont be too long to wait

It's amazing how these towers would dwarf any in the US.

I <3 Shanghai it never fails to blow me away.

Such an impressive skyline, I love how it's just a sea of skyscrapers under 1,000 feet with 2 (soon to be 3) supertalls and one TV/observation tower standing tall above the city. Looks very sci-fi/futuristic

Does anyone know what height it has reached to date? The building even in construction phase looks spectacular - I hope the Discovery Channel make a documentary out of this as they did twice with the Shanghai World Financial centre - which is arguably the best looking Skyscraper in the world!

I believe the core is now just over 300m. From the vantage point that I see every day, the tips of the cranes appear just about level with the top of the Jin Mao building, but due to perspective I'd say they're actually a little lower than that.

My friend throws these rooftop parties along the Bund in the summer, and he asked me if I could take some pictures for him. The nerd in me managed to snag a bunch of skyline/Shanghai Tower shots while doing the predictable 'party people' photos.

Kind of a weird update.

I love the WFC, but was never much of a fan of the Jin Mao. I have to say though, both look equally as incredible at night! When their big sibling is complete this will surely be the most beautiful city in the world, no? I would give anything to go to one of those rooftop parties for the view! ^__^

God damn Shanghai is SO COOL!

I think Jin Mao and the financial center make the best supertall pair in the world, can't wait to see this one join in!
