Yeah, there's just an incredible amount of construction activity going up near both sides of the Tower Bridge. It will look pretty good in a couple of years.

Anyone know how tall this one is?
If each floor were 12 feet, this is about 208 feet then. Not too shabby for the other side of the river! (Or even this side!)

Yeah, they have quite a few lined up, with the Triangle Area and the riverfront and all. There were some renderings from the Bee floating around a while ago, and I'm trying to find them now. If I do, I'll post them.

Northbay, I found some stuff. It's pretty old and preliminary, but it should show a good idea of what they're aiming for:

is there light rail in any of these plans? W.Sac deserves it!

foxmtbr

I also noticed this:

Expansion Property

The expansion property, part of CalSTRS' real estate acquisition, may be developed at a later date, depending on the growth requirements of CalSTRS. Tentative plans for this seven-story high-rise office building call for 200,000 gross square feet of office space, approximately 617 parking spaces and up to 20,000 square feet of retail space to be made available for lease along the Third Street frontage.

Residential Building

CalSTRS' proposes to develop an 17-story high-rise residential building that faces River Walk Park and overlooks the Sacramento River. This property could provide 150 condominium units and 300 parking spaces

And, of course, another picture:

Yep.

Somewhere, there's a picture showing profile views of River One, River Two, and River Three, in comparison to the Ziggurat. It's from the Bee, and the picture has a red tint to it. I remember it very well, but I can't seem to find it anywhere. Anyone know and/or have what picture I'm talking about?

Projects in the city of Sacramento are actually moving fairly quickly since they brought in Ray Kerridge from Portland (who was promoted from head of the planning department and is now the City Manager). Kerridge began what's called the Matrix, which is meant to speed proposals to approval in about half to a third of the time it used to take. The "Towers" were approved in about 10 months (if memory serves me correctly) from proposal to approval...

But the Matrix has proven to be a huge success for the City of Sacramento proper. West Sacramento doesn't have the volume of proposals moving through their planing commission that Sacramento does and can give a project like this their undivided attention; approving it relatively quickly.
(or that's my guess)...

I had no idea there was that much going on in West Sac! When I think of West Sac, I think IKEA!

I know a lot of the areas are old, industrial, and run down, I assume this will start to change as these projects are built and things get better and nicer? Its not bad, just for being SO close to downtown, I cannot believe there is not more development/redevelopment.

Also, West Sac is not far from the Bay Area. Unlike eastern Sacramento (where most of the growth is), you can get from the Bay Area to West Sacramento with little if no traffic, even during rush hour, so I would think it would be an idea location - live in Sacramento, but have quick and east access to the Bay Area.

I must say, I'm surprised by the progress as well. Looking forward to seeing steel (or is it concrete construction?)

innov8
Feb 24, 2007, 11:24 PM
I have been comuncating with structural steel Project
Manager for the CalSTRS towers and it's final height is
277'-4" to the top of the parapet. There are 5 so
called "Podium" levels and on top of that the "Tower"
levels 3 - 17. So technically CalSTRS is 19 floors.

snatester
Mar 1, 2007, 7:46 PM
Technically it is concrete and steel construction. The core is steel and rises from ground level to the roof. There is a concrete parking structure around 2 sides that only goes up to the top podium level (5th podium level). This level is only about 31’-0” tall because the first podium level is below grade. This is different than 621 Capitol Mall where they used steel for the parking structure and tower.

thats a strange place to put a tower...

The angle at which the photos were taken give the impression it's in the middle of the sticks. In fact, downtown is across the river (the area to the right of the picture frames). This tower is located in a part of West Sacramento undergoing a bit of urban renewal and whose prospects are looking up. In the background of the first picture, for example, one can see the rooftops of a mix use development being built.

You get some incredible views, snatester. What company do you work for?

I work for the Steel Fabricator. I am the Project Manager for both 621 Capitol Mall and CalSTRS. I manage the detailing, fabrication, and in some cases the erection.

Cool. I knew you must be working closely with the projects from the picture you got inside the Woodland plant. Thanks for all the views and info.

I'm trying to figure out what this thing will look like in the skyline when completed. Will it be as tall as the waterslide building?

^^^^It'll be 300 ft tall. That's about 17 ft shorter than the Sheraton Grand Tower http://www.emporis.com/files/transfer/sixwm/2005/01/333622.jpg

I wish it was 300' tall... it's final height will be 277', a little taller than the Emerald Tower at 300CM.
