It's coaching. It's got to be. The Flames have talent in spades - but they're not living up to their billing on the road. If they had a coach like Lindy Ruff or Randy Carlyle, they'd be top of the league. Sutter can't let this go on any longer - it's embarassing, and it's ruining our chance to win the Cup this year.

Its coaching for sure. Its this line change mix up thing. we have no secure 1st line. The Flames go through more line changes in a week then I do cups of coffee. We know who gels together, so lets keep it that way and put Iginla, Conroy and Huselius on our permanent first line. then lets back it up with a strong second line of Tangauy, Langkow and Amonte. is it that hard to figure it out?
I think maybe if they let us wear the Red jerseys away from home too, then we'll when some games.

You could clearly hear the Oil fans booo everytime comrie touched the puck, and Lets go Oilers was heard clearly on TV several times too. A few times when a penalty should have been called against the Sens, you could hear the crowd boo the officials.

It's a known fact that Ottawa doesn't have any real fans. Ever seen a Habs/Sens game in Kanata? They might as well be away games for the Hens.
Whenever the Hens score, or there is something to be excited about, the most you'll get out of the fans is a golf applause.

Edmonton clearly has more of a love'm or hate'm following compared to the Flames. There are still are a large number of people who dislike the Oilers because of their past success. Meanwhile it's pretty hard for someone to have a strong emotional attachment to the Flames. Although they were a damn good team, the Oilers slaughtered them annually.

I think that's contestable. Just look at the number of white-collar/business folks that get transferred out of Calgary compared to Edmonton. Without a doubt the success of the Oilers in the 80's boosted their base outside of Edmonton but Calgary's mobile workforce and international exposure, relative to Edmonton's, has created a large fan base outside the city.

i never hear anything about the flames. no one ever, i mean EVER talks about them.
ppl still talk about the oilers here and there...they had the last greatest canadian dynasty...gretz, messier. the greatest flames (old) i could even think of are Gary Roberts, Niewndiek, Douggie Gilmour and L. Macdonald, but people only talk about them here in T.O because they are former leafs.
i think calgary fans try to hard to put themselves in a class with the oilers. its hilarious.

People in Toronto talking about non-Toronto subject matter!!! Where they immediately arrested!?!? ;) I get to look at a lot of Flames and Oilers games on tv and I usually see a lot of Flames fans in away arenas, more so than Oilers. Then when I go check CP I almost always here about one poster's trip to the game and how they met other Flames fans, usually people who have moved due to work. I've also travelled a fair bit and most other Canadians who have will say that when they say they're from Canada most people will ask if they're from Toronto, Vancouver, or Montreal. What I've noticed is that if the person asking says another city it's usually Calgary, most likely because of the Olympics, or Banff. Now if they end up liking hockey which team are they likely to choose? Most likely one from a city they know.

Habs - All depends on Goaltending IMO....(5th)
Sens - looking good, depends on gerber (3rd)
Leafs - another disappointing effort (10th)
Hamilton - exciting young team with crosby:>
Flames - solid team, maybe can get more than 2 goals a game now (3rd)
Oilers - 3 killer lines, 300 goals, weak D, depends on Rolli (6th) *most exciting team to watch.
Nuks - wonder if coach gets fired 1st or trades happen (8-10th)

The oilers are 5 pts behind Calgary, and 7 behind Minn. Calgary has a game at hand on the Oilers. Oilers play Minnesota 5 times before the end of the season yet, and Calgary twice. Anything is still very possible. The "Almighty" Flames as some of you would have them around here, are 1 win and 3 ties ahead of the Oilers. You think that if Therrien tells Laraque to beat the 'ell out anyone who takes liberties with Crosby he's not going to?
You think that if Gretz couldn't get Laraque to fight, Therrien is going to achieve better success? Apparently rumour has it that Laraque told Gretz to f off

trade him to a contender for a solid prospect, then sign him in the off season and bring him back.

^^ That would be a mildly stupid risk to take...

hey, weight did it last year with the canes.
i have no problem letting smyth go for the next few weeks if he's going to resign with the oilers in the off season.
i guess it depends how sweet that offer on the table is.

watch him get traded and decide he likes his new team better. That would be funny, back to the drawing board for the Oil lol.

Would be much like trading iginla, and hoping he would want to come back.
Rumour is on the table that smyth is about to sign 5 years @ 22 M

^^ That must be the offer from the Oilers though.
I'm betting Meehan is asking more like
1. $5.5
2. $5.5
3. $5.5
4. $5
5. $5
Smyth's going to want and deserves a way better deal than Shane Doan.

Sutter would never trade Iginla unless he absolutely had to.
That contract for Smyth sounds about right.

^Despite how happy Bruce Dowbiggin would be if Iggy was traded, he's not going anywhere, and won't likely ever be traded. He's the face of the Flames, and I would be very surprised if he didn't spend his entire career wearing the Flaming C.
I'd be very surprised if the Oilers traded Smyth.

the list of UFA's for the flames in the next few years is going to make it extremely hard for sutter to hold the current team together.
