What up Oilers, 4 more goals. Nice being able to piss away 1.5 periods and have your goalie keep you in it, then pot a couple goals for the win.
Holy sh*t Oil, maybe cut down on giving up so many shots though.

The Flames have nothing to worry about after the loss to Toronto. We took it to overtime, and Giordano not only made his first goal in the NHL but followed up with another several minutes later.
Otherwise, same problems as usual. Slow starts, too many penalties, not being able to score on powerplays (though we did manage to get a short-handed goal), and not nearly enough shots-on-goal. It doesn't help that Sundin was doing great.
Oh well, as long as Phaneuf is willing to dish out the punishment, I'm gonna keep watching. He just needs to learn how not to get caught. :pepper:

He changed his plea from innocent to guilty so that he would only serve 1yr in prison.
1 yr is just not enough - sorry.
While you may feel the justice system in N.America is enough to guide your personal moral compass, i do not.
He should have served 25 years. Which means he would have just gotten out of prison (although i realize this would never happen, ~10 years is more likely). Which means he would never have made millions of dollars or lived in a big home or basically been able to live like it never even happened. THAT is why i have a hard time respecting anything he does with the Oilers. Because he should have been sitting in a cell thinking about what he did and discouraging others from doing the same instead of playing a little game with a stick and puck.
If he got out of prison in say... 1996 and THEN got to where he is then i would probably be able to leave it alone and even respect the guy for having served his time.
I would love to see a drunk driver kill your mother/brother/child/wife and then you be happy with a 1yr punishment!?
Yeah right....
If i (or say my father or brother or whomever) ever do what McTavish did PLEASE, lock me up for life. I should have known better - just like McTavish.
Claeren.
Fact: A judge or jury, under their sole discretion and mandated by Canadians under our common law system, sentenced him as they deemed appropriate. Now if you want to continue to debate the moral aspect and how you percieved the sentencing to be 'wrong' or 'too short', then you can do so until you're blue in the face. There is always two sides to the coin my friend.
But you can't deny the fact that he served his time as directed.

Well considering that Latendresse got a game misconduct when he hit Dimaio in a similar fashion, i thought Regher deserved a two minute minor for Boarding(or something like that) Downey no longer had the puck(for about 2 seconds) .
The hit itself was clean, but regher did lift his feet off the ground.
I'm just thankfull it wasn't Koivu or Higgins.
Anyways, the Habs kicked the Flamers ass'. They got what they deserved!

What were expecting exactly with the two officials we had last night? I can think of 3 blatant calls that were missed while we got marginal "slashing" calls to another players stick.
As far as I'm concerned, the hit was clean. It was all shoulder, although like habsfan said, Regher did have both feet off the ice. The timing issue isn't relevant because a player isopen to a hit a a couple of seconds after he lets go of the puck.

I have absolutely no problem with Regehr's hit, it was a good clean hit. Downey (or what ever his name is) should have been paying attention. I didn't see his feet come off the ice, but if they did that would be charging or boarding.
As for Kipper, I think the d let him down, they couldn't catch Montreal's forwards.

NHL seats unfilled?
Just offer free beer
Thu Oct 19 2006
WHEN it comes to the NHL in particular non-traditional hockey markets, it always reminds me of that classic Loony Tunes cartoon with the singing, dancing frog.
You know, where the guy finds the frog and immediately his eyes are filled with dollar signs. So he rents a theatre with his few remaining dollars, puts a sign out front offering a ticket for $25... and nobody comes.
So he lowers the ticket price to $10... and nobody comes.
Then the sign blares "Free Hotdogs" and... you guessed it, nobody comes.
Finally, exasperated, the guy puts out a sign that promises "Free Beer!" and he gets trampled by a mob of thirsty patrons rushing into the theatre.
Long story short: The crowd never gets to see the singing, dancing frog and his "agent" is left penniless.
Click here to find out more!
We raise this topic today on the heels of early returns on NHL attendance figures, which although quite solid in a majority of markets, are downright frightening in others.
It's not just the usual suspects, either.
For example, the Chicago Blackhawks, one of the league's Original Six franchises, drew just 8,008 the other day in a building that seats 20,500. One could only imagine the echoes.
Remember, that's just a few hundred more than the Manitoba Moose average in the lower bowl of the MTS Centre.
The Los Angeles Kings reported their lowest attendance in five years and the Colorado Avalanche didn't sell out for the first time in nearly 11 years on Tuesday.
That same night, an announced crowd of 8,531 St. Louis fans showed up to see the Blues drop a 5-2 decision to the Phoenix Coyotes. No doubt the fact the Cardinals were embroiled in baseball's National League championship series that evening took a toll on hockey ticket sales. Not to mention the little matter that the Blues suck out loud.
We're not talking about the Carolina Hurricanes or the Nashville Predators here, but either very successful (Avs) or long-standing NHL franchises not usually considered weak links.
In fairness, almost half the 30 NHL teams have played before capacity home crowds at this early date in the 2006-2007 season. But in most markets, the after-effects of the NHL lockout and lost season caused ticket prices to be slashed up to 50 per cent (Nashville).
Not only that, last year the Predators had a $1 hotdog night on Thursday, and on Tuesday nights, popcorn was free.
Clearly, Predators fans are patiently waiting for the free-beer sign.
As is his custom, NHL commissioner Gary Bettman has dug his head in the sand when it comes to attendance figures.
"It's a couple weeks into the season and any speculation would be premature," Bettman told the Los Angeles Times. "It's a little premature two to three weeks into the season to be writing attendance stories."
What Bettman actually meant was that it's too early in the season to be writing negative stories. The NHL headquarters propaganda machine would be working overtime if attendance were not an issue in so many markets, as they had hoped.
According to Hockeynews.com, through 78 games Monday night, the NHL was averaging 16,743 fans per game, down about 500 per game from last season (17,285).
But don't forget two things: First, those numbers from last year were undoubtedly, ahem, massaged to put on a brave face after the lockout and, secondly, that was last year, when the mood toward the NHL was decidedly hostile in many corners.
But after a season of positive reviews pretty much across the board, not to mention across North America, for the new NHL, you'd think league executives -- like the guy with the frog -- would be expecting the audience to come running.
Clearly, not so.
Not even in Phoenix, where this year -- ta-da! -- they've equipped Glendale Arena with a Hooters Restaurant and an 18-member dance squad to (nudge, nudge, wink, wink) increase the quality of entertainment for Coyotes customers.
"It's like putting on a huge Broadway show 41 times a year," gushed Coyotes president Doug Moss.
Perhaps. Or maybe hockey fans in Phoenix, wherever they might be, know a singing frog when they see one.
It's the old axiom of business: If you can't sell 'em what you have, sell 'em what they want.
So our advice to the NHL can be summed up in two words: free beer.
You're welcome, Gary Bettman.

^^ I'm glad thats not a problem here in Canada, all of our teams sell out almost every game ( every Montreal and Toronto game was sold out last year ), but the thing is they get bigger tv contracts in the US than in Canada. If it was up to me i'd move 2-3 teams up north (Winnipeg, Quebec, Hamilton), they would attract more people than in St-louis thats for sure.

i have a solution for the Calgary Flames slow start (i'm fan, don't get me wrong, but this is just crap)
lets trade Alex Tangauy for Craig Conroy and Sean Avery.
figuring of course with Conroy back Jerome Iginla will turn back into Iggy Pop instead of Iggy Flop. It was Conroy who set Iginla for most of the goals he scored a couple seasons back. Plus, Conroy can't keep his yap shut when it comes to talking to the press. so it would be a match made in heaven.
anyone else want in on this idea? i'm thinking of starting a petition to send to the Flames.

It's called passion. The Bell Center is one loud arena but I guess it's ahrd to be passionate when ur team is among the bottom ranks in terms of scoring and play one hell of a boring game.
The boos were directed at the non-call on Kipper's trip on Kovalev in the crease, in front of the ref. More boos when Johnson got high sticked in the face and no call. Or how about Iginla's spear on Komisarek as he was skating off to the bench. More boos for marginal penalties like slashing a players stick etc...
Admitted, the 2 refs that game were complete morons, they even made bad calls on Calgary.

i couldn't agree with you more. but lets send Tanguay down for a stint in Omaha (anyone here notived i'm not liking him too much?). and lets trade someone to FLA for Martin Gelinas. my reccomendation is Darren McCarty and Sean Avery (when we get him and Conroy from LA for Tanguay).

How the hell does Calgary get 112% capacity??
Because the Flames used to say a sellout was 17,145 and ESPN still goes by that. A sellout in Calgary now—"now" being post-2004—is 19,289.
ESPN is stupid, I see the Oilers are listed at 98.5% when the Oil are the hottest ticket in town. They are still basing that on when Northlands' capacity was 17,100, before they added more luxury suites, bringing a sellout down to 16,839.
It's funny how people paint Leaf fans as unrealistic, impatient and fickle when I frequently see the exact same thing from fans of all the other Canadian teams.
Kiprusoff is the reigning Vezina winner. The season is barely 10 games old. Give him some time.
And trade Tanguay? He's young and talented...he'll come around too. I'm starting to think that the Flames need a better system though.

blah. the flames will come around, and Tangauy will live up to the hype (something in the city has too, EnCana Center..the Bow..certainly didn't do it for me). But what we really need to do is start scoring and winning games. We were first in our division last year, and should be first in the west. we have the team and the talent to do it.

Going to see the Sens/Leafs game tonight.. wonder if Neil or McGrattan are going to go after Belak for calling them idiots? should be a great game!
Hey, I'm going to the habs/Losers game saturday night at the Mecca.
Nice job by the hens to beat up on the Losers. They'll come into montreal with their tails between their legs!

You mean the Losers/Leafs game? Or will there be an intrasquad Montreal game on Saturday?
Lame jokes aside, I wouldn't discount Toronto. Ottawa is a good team that finally came around and the Leafs are pretty thin on defense right now. That said, Montreal does not have the talent Ottawa does and they'll probably be in for a tough time to make the playoffs just as the Leafs will.

Half the crowd at Scotiabank was probably leaf fans.. it was nuts. I acutally had a couple of guys in my section almost go at it.

Calgary is hosting Nashville tonight. I think this will be the biggest test for both teams so far. Tanguay needs a multi goal game for the flamers to win me thinks.

It'S all good. The habs played like pussies saturday, i was there!
Luckily Aebisher was in fine form, to allow us to steal a point!

I'm liking the Canucks. There so much fun to watch this season unlike last. Last year I kept screaming at the TV, yelling for the Canucks to actually try and skate and shoot the puck on net. This year their fast, crisp and actually have a goalie to feel comfortable with in net. I feel they have a good chance at taking the division but then again, all teams in this division have a chance at #1. It's gonna go down to the wire.

Too bad he didnt play as good in the first 2 periods as he did in the 3rd and OT.
Aebischer's rebound control was horrendous. I would give about 15-20 shots of Toronto's 50 to Aebischers rebound control. Of course, our D were pylons all night.
That Perezhogin kid is going to be incredible. I wish Carbo would see the light and put him on the #2 line isntead of pimping Guillaume.
Nothing like a game against Montreal when you're on a losing streak.

That's what the Flames are looking like right now. I think it's time to bring some of the kids up from the farm (Boyd, Chucko, Taratukin) and send some other guys out to pasture (Amonte and McCarty for two). They'd better get this team turned around soon, or the season will be over before Christmas. :(

johnny, so you're saying the only way for Calgary to succeed is if their rivals fail? Doesn't sound like you have much hope for the Flames this season.

I was just responding to sync's comment, I think the Flames will be the best Canadian team this season, they just need to hit their stride.
