I don't dispute that this project will come out at some point. Its just difficult to keep this thread going without new info.
I try to keep in mind that the Calgary forumers had to wait months for the Encana tower designs to break, so we may be waiting for a while.
Until then.... :shuffle:

The big difference with this project and the Encana tower is we don't know anything.
We don't know who the developer is or who the driver behind the project is.
In Calgary at least they knew Encana needed space and has purchased a big block of land for there building. We are much more in the dark.

I think the old Petro Canada gas bar will re-locate at this location with a drive thru A&W, also Petro Canada will provide a 6 level car park for it's customers, with the possibilty of having residential spaces on the top 2 levels in the future.

For a new tallest there seems to be little to no leaks regarding what this building might be or look like. Also it was mentioned the announcement would be in December. Who ever posted the announcement of a new tallest and mentioned that it would be announced in December needs to step up and spill some more beans or take some lumps.

Nope.... in my heart the crown corporations were moved to York Factory... in really low grade temporary buildings and trailers... easily infiltrated by bears and other wild animals.
I'm thinking something like this for the best of the inefficient:
http://img376.imageshack.us/img376/4228/im000408lgyc3.jpg
The new highrise buildings contain the many growing Manitoba corporations (real corporations). Winnipeg turns from a belly aching, depressing socialist city to a new mecca of capitalism, where investments are drawn to.

hey.. there is tons of water way up there. :haha:
The fact is the public sector has been treated like royalty for far too long. Paid far beyond the private sector, with a much lower level of professionalism or productivity. They are real good a wasting billions and tax payers dollars and coming back for more when the coffers are low... with little public accountability. All to willing to cut off work early without any consiquences.
Please ... I think it is the public taxpayers who have been mistreated for far too long.. and the public sector deserves the mistrust they have so rightfully earned.
In my world they wouldn't be a poison to the fabric of this city anymore... alas my heart's vision of the city will not become reality. Hopefully the public sector is still held to account and made to earn there way and where possible compete with the private sector.
Why do government workers make a $15 a hospital sandwich .. when the private sector can make the same sandwhich for less than $5. Yeah I love worthless sandwich buracracy. :koko:

I would prefer an office tower.
Does Winnipeg really need more museums and I have heard that downtown condos arent exactly selling all that well. There are still a number of riverfront condos available.
An office tower will get more people working (and potentially living) in the downtown core. Condos will remain empty until people start working downtown.

Considering I've heard numbers in the $300,000 range, I'm highly impressed that these are selling AT ALL. It speaks volumes on how much Winnipeg has improved in just the past few years that a condo would even sell for that, let alone in the downtown.
Give it time, and unless this is just a short-lived yuppie fad, you'll see plenty of sold-out condos downtown.

It's interesting the price points that Waterfront Drive is getting. They're certainly expensive relative to the rest of the market, but reasonable value. The market at that level is only so deep however. If there were more modest units built, in particular one bedroom or 700 sq ft lofts for $125-$200k you'd see a lot more activity.

60,000 people already work downtown. The number one priority right now should be to have more people living downtown. If demand is low they should add improvements like more parks, improved public spaces and better transit access to make it more desirable
