^Beautiful shots. I wish I could look into the future and see what Victoria will look like in 20-25 years. I imagine pretty impressive for a metro of half a million (or however big it will be).

Man, I wish the great scaper would hurry up and post his Victoria photo thread! In the meantime as a tease, here's another great pano shot he took.

Halifax in the early 70s:
http://img100.imageshack.us/img100/1873/img0897to3.jpg
Scotia Square development is still partially under construction at the middle left (the two somewhat identical towers are Barrington and Duke).
Moir's chocolate factory can be seen to the left of City Hall (in front of Scotia Square).
The towers in the distance at centre are the Creighton/Brunswick towers (now "Ocean Towers"), probably housing displaced Africville residents at that time.
To the left of the Brunswick towers appears to be the Uniacke Square public housing complex under either under construction or open already, I can't really tell.
The interchange taking up much of the photo is the newly built Cogswell Street Exchange, originally intended to be a component of a larger elevated freeway called "Harbour Drive" (think 'mini-Gardiner', was never built thankfully, due to the amount of destruction it would've caused).
To the right of Cogswell is the long plot of land that will be the site of the Sheraton hotel (1982), Purdy's Wharf (1985 & 1990), and the Casino (2000).
Man, I need a more useful hobby.

This is a panorama of the eastern end of False Creek in Vancouver and it shows the Olympic Village site now under construction with three cranes.
The larger Southeast False Creek Precinct is simultaneously undergoing development and these properties will incorporate many of the same sustainability initiatives as the Olympic Village and be built to a minimum of LEED Silver.
The Olympic Village will be LEED Gold with several buildings aiming for LEED Platinum or Net-Zero accreditation.
http://img181.imageshack.us/img181/2532/sefcpano5000x400mediumwin9.jpg
Incidentally, this was my first panorama. I stitched the images together in Photoshop and the edges are a bit rough, but I'm pretty pleased with it.
Also,

Urban volleyball near downtown Vancouver and beside the VCC-Clark SkyTrain station.
http://img207.imageshack.us/img207/3433/tandemstreetscape2inburfk2.jpg
OMA 2 under construction beside Tandem in Burnaby.
In my opinion this is how you take a suburban street and successfully make it urban.
These two different developments are following the City of Burnaby's Official Development Plan for the area.
The goal is to turn this suburban road into an urban pedestrian-oriented commercial high street.
So far, so good. But it will take decades to fully realize the plan and in the mean time people are buying in.
Almost all of the units in these new projects are pre-sold before even breaking ground.
The Gilmore SkyTrain station anchors one end of the street while the Holdum station anchors the other.
http://img101.imageshack.us/img101/6181/heronbytandaminburnabyazr8.jpg
I was exploring the newly restored/created wetlands area behind the Tandem development in Burnaby when a heron awkwardly landed in the water a couple of feet in front of me.
Startled, I snapped off a single shot that is actually the best animal photograph I've ever taken.

What do people do in Quebec anyway? With such a sparse CBD and very little talk of employment in Quebec (at least here in English Canada) it's a bit of a mystery to me. Who are the major employers in Quebec City?
I imagine a lot of those buildings have to do with the provincial government.

I'm with malek on this one. Just because Quebec has 5 or 6 skyscrapers spaced far apart, does NOT mean they have a small CBD. You should go visit; it's a truly great city.
You can't really tell in the picture, but there are a bunch of other mid-rise business towers that are in there. It may not look it, but that city is dense as hell. Barely enough room to walk.

I've been to Quebec City many times. It just doesn't seem like they have anywhere near the amount of office space needed to support a primarily government city of 500,000. So, I asked the serious question as to what the major employers in Quebec City were. People on this forum are hilarious. It wasn't a shot at Quebec in any way. And what's with the wow comment? Just because I have been to a city doesn't mean I should be an expert on its top 10 employers.

Vancouver is a good looking town, it's too bad everything is built out of blue , gray or green glass.
Thank goodness, I was too embarrased to say it but in every pic I see on here of Vancouver I find all the tall buildings look exactly the same! am I crazy?

All of those pictures except for the last one are in the suburbs where masterplanned condo developments with multiple towers of the same or similar design are the norm.

this is a really gorgeous boat - it experienced one of the worst yacht fires ever and had to be completely redone
if you google it - you can find loads of info and pics on it - there is even a flickr group that seems to track where she is
heres a little bit from a forbes article
That's partly because Washington is having far too much fun with boats of his own. His 226-foot luxury yacht Attessa is an engineering marvel, and, of course, fits the definition of a large mechanical object in need of a turnaround.
The fire-damaged yacht was being off-loaded by its owner and an insurance company eager to get rid of it. For two years Washington toiled shoulder-to-shoulder with workers at his Vancouver Shipyards rebuilding Attessa from the hull up. He added an extra deck formed from a single piece of plastic, the largest plastic composite ever constructed for a yacht. The ship, festooned with art deco flourishes, is equipped with a movie theater, gym, massage room and two outdoor Jacuzzis. A radar tower is painted "Harley-Davidson platinum," as is a seven-seat helicopter. Washington spent about $50 million buying and restoring the craft.
"He's not even that much of a boater,"says friend and fellow Forbes 400 member H. Wayne Huizenga, who bought Washington's previous yacht. "He doesn't go out for months at a time. But what Dennis likes is a project. And the Attessa is a work of art."
That might satisfy most billionaires, but only days after Attessa was put to sea, Washington was at it again, fixing up Daedalus, Boeing's former corporate yacht, built in 1966 and once owned by beer magnate August Busch.
