I'm in Victoria for the summer and would love to talk skyscrapers with the one and only Great Scaper and trade China toilet stories with Giallo over a beer. I know it won't be as romantic as if it were just the two of you, but let me know if you don't mind me tagging along.

Is the building in the foreground some kind of railway shed? What is/was its use? Was it hooked up to a regular rail line or to the city's streetcar network?

I've never been to Winnipeg before. I need to travel more. I also really want to go to Montreal, Ottawa, Quebec City and the East Coast. I guess that's what happens when you live in a large Country. It's tough to travel the whole thing.

Canal and bike path heading to Lake Chestermere. Yes the bike path is perfectly flat, but there is always a wicked head wind heading east to Chestermere (about 12 kms each way or more depending on where you start), and then when it is time to turn around to come back, then one finds that the wind has shifted back to blowing from the west so it is even tougher to get back! In some places on the bike path, there are big piles of goose poop that can be really slick and squishy to ride through. I didn't bike out to Chestermere this time.

Ben's deli, opened in 1908, it moved to this building the year it was built in 1949. A couple years a go the greedy owners refused to tranquilize the restaurant worker's demands (such as a working fridge and a functional toaster, never mind better wages) and the famous landmark closed. Its long been a Montreal institution but thanks to its owners (the same family that opened it 100 years ago) the place has closed down and the building will be destroyed. Typical of Montreal, the prime Downtown location will be wasted on a cheap 15 storey condo (45-50m).

Rico Rommheim

It hasn't been good for decades. I'm not so much pissed that they're tearing down, I'm pissed that they're building a 15 floor condo in its place.

someone123
06-04-2008, 10:22 PM
Last time I went to Montreal it was closed.

Family members talk about it as if it was a bit of an institution, but they probably remember it as it was in the 1960s and 70s.

Those Regina photos rock!

Vanman when you're in Victoria this weekend. You should go check out the Oak Bay Tea Party. It's off Cadboro Bay Beach in Oak Bay!

It's awesome Dylan and I are going to be going. I'll be taking some photos of it, I'll post them later! :D
