Ha, my old 'hood. What's the building under construction roughly where 645 Wellington (http://bit.ly/9Eq3fU) would be in that photo?

Judging by the other photos taken of this area, it reminds me of why I both loved and hated the area--it's so quiet and isolated at night. Sometimes, I just wished there were more funky cafes to hang out in at night, etc. I suppose much has changed in the past 7 years?

Can you still get greasy burgers and poutine from that old Greek couple on Mcgill?

There's still those large ugly parking lots that need to be filled in with lofts etc!

God I wish that building (Centrium) was taller, or located somewhere more prominent. Its totally lost in Calgary, and its one of the better looking buildings in the city.

Yeah you two are NOT talking about the same building... the picture urbandreamer quoted here (http://forum.skyscraperpage.com/showpost.php?p=4757134&postcount=5981) is 2 years old.
The crane you see was for McGill Ouest, which was completed in 2008. I think Habfanman showed pictures of it somewhere.

The one MTLskyline is talking about is indeed on Queen St, near the right end of the huge Silo complex, if you want to locate it in the same picture.
But it's U/C right now and hadn't appeared yet on the 2-year-old picture.

I think what's cool about centrium is you pop around the corner and you see that leaning facade and it is a nice surprise. Looks good from wherever you can see it. Not sure it needs to be a big skyline presence.

People like downtown people scenes, but here's a critter scene in downtown Saskatoon on the river. There were a couple others, but I couldn't get a good angle without getting wet and I only had a crappy cell camera.

^That's not St Pat's Cathedral; rather, it's a former synagogue-turned-Holy Trinity Russian Orthodox Church @Henry and Cecil. It's the home congregation of Liberal leader Michael Ignatieff. It should be a zoo there this Saturday night--Russian Easter this year being one of those rare occasions it shares the same day with Western Easter (and Jewish Passover week.) A friend of mine attends the church.

Wow, that first pic by tomms makes Toronto look like Shanghai! All of those lakeshore condos look like a continuation of downtown in that photo.

That first pic is crazy, but wildly deceptive. It makes it look as though the Etobicoke lakefront is just one small bay away from downtown and eliminates all the single family housing and row houses between midtown/Yorkville and the vantage.

It reminds me of those telephoto shots where the rockies look like they are right behind Calgary or where Mt Baker is towering over dt vancouver.

Hopefully to become a convention centre, 18 storey office building, and 14 storey hotel (though another distinct possibility would be permanent rubble pit). This is the crummy part of the downtown area so having real buildings here would make a big difference.
