Does the Distillery District just completely die off in the winter? I made a point of checking it out when I was in Toronto and A, it was not nearly as large as I thought it would be (I thought it would be Toronto's version of Gastown) and B, it was deader than a cemetery. I was expecting vibrancy, like in the pics posted above.

That's absolutely incorrect. The city is very vibrant in the winter, just not summer hangouts like the Distillery District.

That's like looking at the ski hills in the middle of summer and saying the entire city is dead in the summer becuse they are.

Harbourfront Centre and Nathan Phillips Square both have skating a bright lights, as well as many winter events, and both are quite lively during the winter. Also, Sherbourne park in the east is opening up public skating and will be quite lively in the future.

Younge-Dundas square has many events go on and is just an overall busy spot.

UofT is just UofT, always has something going on, and of course there are the indoor places like the museums, theatre and arenas.

High Park and Trinity Bellwoods are 2 other parks where many people go in the winter.

The Distillery District is just one area that's a summer hangout, like the Toronto Islands.

Sure if you're going to pull skating rinks out, then there are certainly places that people go to, I was refering more to general livelyness though.

Queen St west, Yonge St, even YD square are dead compared to the summer. You may disagree but I find the seasonal disparity in TO quite large.

And as a former U of T student I can attest to tons of people being out on campus during the winter, but I'd hardly call stressed out students hurrying to class vibrancy!

My friend recently got a picture of the CN Tower disappearing into a cloud, then the tip reappearing through the top of it.. (So basically the 2 Skypods were hidden). It looked sooo good.
