I think we need a picture thread in the Canada section, where we can post **NEW**pictures that we take of our cities, or other Canadian cities if we go on vacation. I thought I would start it off with some nature pictures I took yesterday. Here are some pix from a phototour I did of the salmon running up the Humber River. It is fascinating to watch them try and scale a rather high looking ladder. The Cohoe salmon are part of a programme to restock our Lake, and have grown to a huge size (they look about 2.5- 3 feet long. For anyone interested, it should still be happening for only a few short days. Get off at the Old Mill subway station, and walk down into Etienne Brulee park. I took about 100 pix just to get a few that actually captured the beauties leaping in the air! I hope you enjoy these as much as I enjoyed taking them!
There is not a lot left of the Old Mill from the 1840's, and what is left was at sometime Mock-Tudorized. But if you tell yourself that if it had not undergone a faux period change, it probably would have been ripped down, then the result is handsome enough:

Wow, that's incredible. Amazing shots, I can only imagine how many you had to take in order to capture those few.

Literally I had to take about a hundred to get a few good ones. One trouble with most digital cameras is there is a small delay between depressing the button and the actual snapshot, so by the time you see the salmon leaping, it
is too late! But was great fun, anyhow!

Those were probably the best Regina pix I have ever seen! We just don't see enough pix from Saskatchewan! Also great to see Rimouski, as I have never seen any from there before!
Here's a few photos I took on a walk today (with the exception of the first one, taken earlier this month) in the Armdale district of Halifax. It's a mostly residential neighbourhood, with a few office buildings around Joseph Howe Drive. Manulife Financial, CGI, IMP, and CCI Group all have operations in the area. It's also home to a infamous traffic circle, the Armdale rotary.
---
CCI and Manulife buildings: (Look closely above the word "Financial" and you can see the outline of the old Maritime Life signage. This was their old headquarters, when they were bought out there were a lot of layoffs here.)

I live not far from that area, which of course is named because of its location at the end of the Northwest Arm, a small inlet next to the Halifax peninsula. It's kind of nice, although there's not much around. Across from the former Maritime Life building is a small, mostly wooded lot that was the site of the first zoo in North America. Eventually, it was sold off and became New York's Central Park Zoo. A developer has recently purchased the land.
The area used to be at the end of the city's tram system. There was a small airstrip in the 1920s as well as the Simpson's department store and warehouse, which unfortunately have either been demolished or renovated beyond recognition. The Halifax Shopping Centre is across Mumford Road and was the first mall in Canada to feature air conditioning.
Most of the housing is fairly plain 1940-1960 stuff but there are some older homes near certain the major roads and there are some large houses that used to be part of estates.
I'm sure that's more than any of you ever wanted to know about Armdale...

I have some pictures from last night! Church Street in the gay village, shuts down for a big street party every year. This year the weather cooperated, and the costumes were the best I have ever seen. There were thousands of people there, dancing to the DJ, and having a blast!! Wonderful time all round
Here are some of the pix, but if you would like to see more, I have copied my SSC Toronto photoblog in the City Photos section here on SSP. Visit it! :)

The Royal Winnipeg Ballet is an amazing ballet corps. Winnipeg is justly proud of it. I am
so happy for them that they have their own home! That pic I showed is the National Ballet's new school... they are sharing space with the Opera in the new Four Seasons opera house for performances. I just love the new NBSchool on Jarvis. Simple, yet elegant. Those big glass windows on the left part are where the students practice.. the glass is etched with music notes. Lovely!
Part of the old Ballet School is being converted into residences for the students...

its the old grain Silo #5.
The port Authority of montreal has hired my firm to give them ideas of what should be done with this monstrosity. There were plans of turning it into a residential complex with a 50 storey tower(i doubt we'll be seeing this), others proposed of turning into a museum.
I say we should strap a few hundred kilos of C-4 to this thing and blow it up baby! KA-BOOM!!!!
