Oooh! New Tallests? Sounds good. :)

Feb 23, 2007, 2:53 PM
^I agree can't wait to see your new tallest! :D

Feb 23, 2007, 7:14 PM
About when do we get to see this? Soon I hope.

Feb 25, 2007, 12:55 PM
^ You get to see it right now. :D This is certainly the largest update to date, so I hope you enjoy it! I only have two pictures for now, as it is 4:45 AM and I am tired, but alas, they are good pics. I already explained some of the new buildings a few posts back, so let's just get down to business:

An overhead shot of the new area.

The new skyline!

What do you guys think?

Feb 25, 2007, 5:05 PM
Wow!
not just a new tallest...
Plenty new tallest!
absolutly worth the waiting!
Maybe my idea of a supertall aren't too crazy now. ;)

Feb 25, 2007, 5:29 PM
WOW! Those towers are positivly huge! That last picture makes those towers look like they are over 2,000 feet tall! How tall are they?

We should make a diagram of the tallest buildings here, combining Palm Dunes, City City, Steinpolis, and Staunton.

I'd love to see some emporis pages!

Feb 25, 2007, 8:48 PM
^ Surprisingly, the tallest big black one with the white corners is only 800'. The ESPN building is 630'. I think you can get an idea for the other tall buildings from there, the tall ones are in the 600-800' range. The highest point in Palm Dunes is at the tip of the spire of Two Pacific Plaza (the one behind PanPacific), at 910'.

Feb 26, 2007, 12:32 AM
Love the idea of the canal. Kinda chicago river feel goin' on. Nice job.

Feb 26, 2007, 12:52 AM
the detail in those buildings is awsome
love the water

Feb 26, 2007, 6:09 AM
910'? Huge, but I dont know what, but they look way bigger than that, I'm not sure what it is though. I can clearly see how much effort you put into those towers :)

Feb 26, 2007, 5:49 PM
The new addition blends in perfectly. Wonderful job!!!!!!!!

Feb 27, 2007, 12:22 AM
Thanks guys! Patrick I think they look taller because all I've been showing so far are 200-400' towers, and then the big boom brought along towers 3 or 4 times taller, giving them a massive appearance, even though they aren't that big. And lts, I was going for the Chicago look with the river, I'm glad you noticed. ;)

Feb 27, 2007, 12:48 AM
it would be cool to see some views from the river ??

Feb 27, 2007, 2:18 AM
It certainly would be! ;)

Feb 27, 2007, 2:28 AM
that awsome love the plam trees , ocean and sunset
i would deffintly live in that city

Feb 27, 2007, 2:31 AM
its gorgeous

Feb 27, 2007, 3:28 AM

Feb 27, 2007, 3:45 AM
Holy Moly. I haven't checked this page in a little while. Count me in as blown away!

I'm really going to have to step it up a notch to try to stay in the same league as some of you.

Feb 27, 2007, 5:57 AM
Towers, Canals, & Bridges. Oh my. I must see emporis pages ;)

Feb 27, 2007, 8:14 AM
^ I'll try to make some sometime this week, but I might not get to it until the weekend. Any particular buildings you'd like to see?

Feb 27, 2007, 6:04 PM
absolutly amazing looking

Mar 5, 2007, 8:25 AM
when can we expect an update?

Mar 5, 2007, 10:24 PM
^ I'll try to make some sometime this week, but I might not get to it until the weekend. Any particular buildings you'd like to see?

Any of the big ones ;)

Mar 6, 2007, 12:28 AM
Here we go, I'm sorry that I never got around to those, I was busy all week. I only have one right now, but I should be posting more over the next few days (hopefully).

I started with the "original" tallest. :)

Mar 6, 2007, 12:45 AM
nice background info on that

Mar 6, 2007, 2:03 AM
Yeah very creative :)

Mar 9, 2007, 12:28 AM

Mar 9, 2007, 12:37 AM
That's pretty cool! :D

Mar 9, 2007, 2:01 AM
Awesome! I'll certainly have to return the favor :)

Mar 9, 2007, 6:58 AM
The citizens of Palm Dunes stare up in awe at the advertisement for Staunton. (Don't mind the not-lined-up textures, lol.)

Ah, the side of Palm Dunes we haven't seen in a while! Two more blocks done, the new white and blue tower is Cybersoft's Western Headquarters.

An Emporis page!

Mar 9, 2007, 3:57 PM
Emporis Pages are great! :)

Mar 10, 2007, 2:38 AM
Great Stuff! Here is some Architectual Advice: This is California, most buildings have flat topped buildings. I dont think Spires fit with some of the city's supertalls. For Example, the Cybersoft Western Headquarters. The tower looks really NICE! But I dont think a spire goes with it well, along with the building next door. Of course, these are just suggestions, you do what you think is best :)

Mar 10, 2007, 3:13 AM
Thanks for the tip, I see your point (puns intended). Which ones do you think should or shouldn't have spires (of the ones that already have them)? Two Pacific Plaza should obviously keep its spire, as it adds so much to the building, and I'll take off the ones you already mentioned.

Mar 10, 2007, 3:27 AM
Actually, just those two, the other towers seem fine with a spire :) haha, I see your point haha thats halarious.

Mar 10, 2007, 4:11 AM
Alrighty, I'll fix those two up then. :D Yes, I am quite the punster. :haha:

Edit: Here's an update on that, I added helipads instead:

The red one actually is a full circle, but for some reason it didn't show up that way. Oh well!

Mar 10, 2007, 6:33 AM
looking good :)

Mar 10, 2007, 6:52 AM
Ooh Looks MUCH better :)

Mar 10, 2007, 7:53 PM
Nice job!

Mar 10, 2007, 9:21 PM
hehe nice. :)

Mar 11, 2007, 9:18 AM
Fans pile up to see the debut of the Palm Dunes Stallions versus the Sacramento Kings at the brand new Google Arena. Of course, the Kings won. ;)

The blocks surrounding the arena will be filled with clubs and whatnot.

Mar 11, 2007, 9:47 AM
nice arena:)

Mar 11, 2007, 11:04 AM
A very detailed arena with nice textures!
I also like that Google sign.:)

Mar 11, 2007, 2:59 PM
Nice job with that!!!!!!!!!

Mar 11, 2007, 3:29 PM
Wow! Your textures are so clear!

Do you use the components tool, or copy and paste a group of people for your 2D Groups of people?

Dear Leader VI

Mar 11, 2007, 7:36 PM
Wow! Your textures are so clear!

I copy and paste them from another file, in large groups of about 30-40 people. That's why I don't post aerials of where people are standing, because the groups are exactly the same shape. :P

Mar 12, 2007, 5:21 AM
Have you tried the components tool? Where you can plop 2d people into your model, for a varaty.

Although there are only 10-15 people, but if you download the packs on the Sketchup site, you can plop hundreds of 2d people, instead of downloading from the 3D Warehouse. Same goes for cars and other components.

Mar 12, 2007, 5:26 AM
Ooh! I'll definitely try that, probably tomorrow. Thanks for the tip! :D

Mar 12, 2007, 5:30 AM
Oh and just in case you dont know

Window > Components

This also works for trees, once you download them into the model, they will be able to be ploppable. So that means you dont have to have the same Californian Palm Fan over and over again. Thats how I get different sized trees in Staunton.

Mar 13, 2007, 7:05 AM
Great stuff. Now if only Sacramento could get an arena like that. ;)

Where is the arena in relation to the rest of the city?

Mar 13, 2007, 7:37 AM
Is that a picture of a coach getting ejected?

Mar 14, 2007, 12:18 AM
^ Why, yes, it is! Haha, I'm glad someone noticed.

Great stuff. Now if only Sacramento could get an arena like that. ;)

Where is the arena in relation to the rest of the city?
Yes, Sac could use this very badly. :(

I am not going to paste it back into the city just for a picture, as that would take forever, so I'll just do this for now until I finish the section I'm working on. (Don't mind the old picture, the buildings I fixed don't have spires anymore.)

It takes up a 2x2 block section, right about there, with the entrance facing the lower left corner of the block (southwest).

Mar 25, 2007, 1:01 AM
Wow! Has it really been 11 days since I've updated? I'm sorry guys!

Well, nothing big here, I've been very slowly building stuff, and today I made a cool little park.

(Patrick, I tried the component tool, but it didn't make any difference. I did add a few new faces to my groups of people though, lol.)

Mar 25, 2007, 1:19 AM
your park looks great:)

Mar 25, 2007, 3:39 AM
Thanks! :)

Mar 25, 2007, 8:39 AM
another pic

Mar 25, 2007, 9:26 AM
Very Nice! I like the park, very modern.

Mar 25, 2007, 3:39 PM
your arena fits in so well with the surroundings

Mar 30, 2007, 5:54 AM
One building has grown, and one has been built. The arena is slowly being enclosed!

Also, tomorrow is my last day before spring break, so within the next two weeks I should have more time for the city and possibly an individual project as I mentioned in CGII's thread.

Mar 30, 2007, 6:28 AM
wow nice!

Mar 30, 2007, 10:21 PM
looking good:)

Mar 30, 2007, 10:46 PM

Mar 31, 2007, 8:21 AM
LOL!! Do I see a GOOGLE headquarter there? :)

That's quite fantastique.

Mar 31, 2007, 8:45 PM
^its an arena...but close enough :)

Apr 1, 2007, 12:25 AM
Ah, finally updates including the entire city, not just a section of it!

Construction is underway on this block!

A view of the whole city. (Don't mind the cheesy photoshopping, lol. There will be buildings on the right where there is currently empty space.)

Apr 1, 2007, 9:09 AM
Oh. So sexy. ;)

Construction Block looks very nice!

Apr 2, 2007, 8:10 AM
Thanks! :)

Nothing new, just some pics.

Fans prepare for Friday evening's game versus Chicago, while others roam the steets going home from work.

Want a 2-room studio in this oceanfront condo complex (in foreground)? Got a million bucks?

In traditional Palm Dunes style, fog rolls in while it is still sunny. Wtf?

Apr 2, 2007, 8:18 AM
Very nice foxmtbr. I especially like the touch with the building U/C. Will we get to see development updates now and then? :D

Apr 2, 2007, 8:27 AM
Yes, perhaps I can show the progress of that building until its completion. That would be pretty cool. :D

Apr 3, 2007, 2:45 AM
Thanks! :D

Apr 3, 2007, 8:53 AM
Citizens have never felt safer- the Palm Dunes General Hospital (twins) is now open, along with the police headquarters (the nonmatching one).

Apr 4, 2007, 3:10 AM
^thats a really good angle to look at the skyline

Apr 4, 2007, 9:09 AM
The city has a very good balance betwin hi-rise and mid-rises. :D

Apr 4, 2007, 9:13 AM
Thanks guys! :)

Apr 9, 2007, 2:29 AM
Yeah! Nice!!

Apr 12, 2007, 12:51 AM
So hows the City Going?:)

Apr 12, 2007, 2:03 AM
^ I've built a few small buildings, but I haven't really been doing much work. I know, I'm a slacker. :P

Apr 22, 2007, 7:50 PM
Long time, no update. Well, one more month of school left, we get out May 24, so I'm pretty busy here. Unfortunately, you probably won't get any updates during that time (:(), so don't be surprised by the lack of attention, I'll get back to work on Palm Dunes once summer comes around. :)

Apr 24, 2007, 7:21 AM
May 24th?! wow when do you guys start?

Apr 25, 2007, 11:26 PM
August 24. :)

May 3, 2007, 11:31 PM
Good stuff foxmtbr

You need a crane or two in the skyline ;)

May 4, 2007, 12:35 AM

I already have one small crane (as shown earlier), but yes, I'll try to put in some big ones once I start working on this again. Only 3 weeks from today until summer! :)

May 11, 2007, 5:29 AM
My goodness!!! An update?!?

Indeed! I have had a little time this week to fool around with Palm Dunes, so here we go:

The Palm Dunes Museum of Architecture, and the (matching tower) LEED certified Bank of Palm Dunes Headquarters.

An overhead of the new little area, about 7 1/2 blocks.

A view of the new buildings from behind.

A skyline shot.

May 11, 2007, 5:37 AM
Delicious. I love those brown and blue glass twins. Simple elegance.

May 11, 2007, 5:45 AM
Thanks. :) I like the twins also, they are possibly my new favo(u)rites.

I destroyed the 900 foot bohemoth-box, in case it wasn't obvious already.

May 12, 2007, 12:22 AM
I love how the city has grown... no one is using hills yet :(

May 12, 2007, 5:19 PM
Your city is looking great:tup:

May 13, 2007, 7:55 AM
I LOVE the twins. They got a name yet? I also like the Museum and LEED Tower.

Nice job ajusting the skyline, now Two PanPacific Tower looks much more dominant. How tall is it again?

May 14, 2007, 4:41 AM
Thanks! Two Pacific Plaza is 750', 910' with spire. The twins aren't named yet. I'm thinking of something with Palm in the name, but I don't want another "Plaza," and One & Two "Palm Place" sounds a bit odd for two massive towers. Anyone have any ideas? Feel free to stray from the Palm thing as well, I'm open to other ideas.

May 14, 2007, 5:13 AM
Well I gave you the PanPacific name (I think you changed it back to One Pacific Plaza, oh well) lets see,

One & Two Palm Plaza
Palm Financial Center
Palm Corporate Plaza
One & Two Dunes Place/Square/Plaza
Palm Dunes Financial Center
West Square
Californian Plaza (no no the LA one is California Plaza ;) )
Santiago Plaza
One & Two Yosemitie Plaza

May 15, 2007, 5:21 AM
Ooh! Thanks for all the suggestions! Hmm... I'll take Palm Corporate Plaza! :D

May 15, 2007, 9:11 AM
Impressively stunning as always. I really like the way you added that rooftop natural preserve in one of the rooftops!!

May 15, 2007, 1:18 PM
Makes me wanna go driving through it like a bat out of hell GTA style!!!

May 15, 2007, 10:47 PM
^ I ought to figure out how to import this into some video game, that would be awesome! I believe CGII was talking about importing sketchup cities into Midtown Madness sometime last year.

May 16, 2007, 12:08 AM
That was a fun game too. :D If you can, that would rock!!!

May 16, 2007, 1:52 AM
Ooh, it looks like I might be able to put it in Battlefield 1942. I'll test that theory when I have a chance (not today, but hopefully tomorrow. Definitely on the weekend).

May 23, 2007, 11:51 PM
that is a very beautiful city.
