foxmtbr
Jul 7, 2007, 3:42 AM
Yep, the blue and white tower with the spire is the tallest, 900' to roof, 1100' with spire. There certainly will not be a new tallest, the skyline has peaked, and it will go downwards as it progresses inland.

Yes Vid and FlyersFan, I realize that my waterfront desperately needs help. Anyone have any ideas?

The problem with yr waterfront is that its too abrupt. What you have to do is think of the history of the city: obviously it was settled there because of its proximity to the water. So the waterfront would've been used for industrial purposes. So what you should have is the city surrounded by industrial waterfront. Then consider the 1960s, the death of industry and its exodus out of central urban areas, and also the 2000s, when it's popular to renovate old industrial brownfields into lofts/condos or trendy parks. I recommend you make some waterfront be old abandoned/dilapidated piers or industrial buildings (ie the waterfront of Manhattan), throw in some gentrification (ie London's South Bank), and maybe a twist of uber park (ie Millenium Park in Chicago). But that's just me. :D

I'd take cold anytime over Arizona's stank heat.
I wouldn't. Cold fucking SUCKS. Philly winters are brutal, dude. Our summers are too for that matter - nothing like Arizona, but we're talking about 98 degree days with 90% humidity and a heat index of like 108 (nevermind the frigging thunderstorms seemingly every day), coupled with winters in the teens and single digits with anywhere from 15-30+ inches of snow a year. It's crazy...talk about having four full seasons. We don't get a break - we go from tank tops to hoodies to winter jackets to tee shirts back to summer. No breaks. :yuck:

FlyersFan118
Jul 12, 2007, 3:55 AM
Yes Vid and FlyersFan, I realize that my waterfront desperately needs help. Anyone have any ideas?

For one thing, your streets seem to stop right at the water. I'd suggest putting a coast between the street and the water, 50 to 75' or so from the street to the water maybe. Work from there - dilapidated warehouses, piers, buildings on piers in the water, refurbished warehouses, parks (green is good), bike/jogging paths, maybe a boardwalk along the beach, lighthouses, etc. Use your imagination!

Mocholate

Alrighty Mocholate, here's your map. Wait a minute, where did all the buildings go?!?

http://img243.imageshack.us/img243/7430/waterfrontmaphu8.jpg

This is the file I'm working with right now, I just have an empty grid instead of the actual city to save myself the lag. Anything that is just a blank face already exists, and anything with a texture is new/unbuilt (except the water, of course). As you can obviously see, I have drawn out plans for how the waterfront will be revitalized. I'm simply going to add more land around the edges and go from there, building parks, historic docks, beaches, etc. Also, down there in the right corner, you can see a dock with a lighthouse (you've already seen it), and a treeless fourth hole on the front nine at Palm Dunes Country Club. You might also notice the word 'airport' with a large arrow pointing down. I will eventually build an airport way down south, below the golf course. Then, of course on the right, you can see where midtown will be, with midrises and old buildings (Although it's hard to find old-style textures that have a west coast feel). I've already built two buildings in midtown, as you can see, but at about 500', they aren't exactly midrise.

Peter
Jul 13, 2007, 6:28 AM
The layout is awesome. How far south do you plan on building the airport? It should be pretty far from the skyscrapers to be realistic. Also, I don't think the park is too big, Central Park is much bigger, but it's up to you. :)

foxmtbr
Jul 13, 2007, 6:34 AM
It's not the size of the park, it's the way it awkwardly juts out into the ocean. I'll bring it in a little bit so that it doesn't look (literally) like a sore thumb. :P As for the airport, yes, it'll be quite far down there, possibly a few miles, with runways going east-west, so there is no interference with the skyline. The golf course itself will probably end up being about 2 miles long, and the airport is even farther south.

I like Palm Dunes better, and I think that that history, looks, and location are better. Whether you like it or not that is how I feel. Not every city is on the same par in my point of view. And I like Otahita very much. Your city is just too negative.

A new tall tower. 776', 968' to spire. I haven't checked, but I believe that will make it 2nd tallest in the city. (This isn't in midtown, this is in an empty block downtown, but I haven't put it in the big file yet.)

Nah, I don't want anything to rival the current tallest. I like the skyline the way it is, in the 500'-700' range for the most part. I don't feel the need to have anything taller than the current tallest, at 900'/1100'.

Edit: Yeah, it may be a little wide, but it'll seem normal when I put it with the other towers. If it still looks like a dwarf, I'll slim it a bit. :)
