^ :haha: That's what I thought when I was looking at it too.

Aug 15, 2007, 3:39 AM
i think it's fine , all the proposals can go in a new area :D

Aug 15, 2007, 4:18 AM
^ Well, I'm not sure there'll be too many more big skyscrapers, if any. Don't worry about me ruining the current skyline, I won't. Those towers are there to stay, and that's it. I'm just going to add a waterfront with small buildings.

Although, there are still some undeveloped blocks downtown slated for midrises, and a developer has proposed a massive project in place of the current highway. It was formerly part of Highway 101, but in 1992, the highway was reconstucted a few miles west, outside of downtown, to ease the through-traffic (people not getting off downtown). Here's the proposal site. Renderings (massing models) should be released soon, the developer says. There could possibly be a/some 800'+ tower(s) (but no new tallest).

That black box is also slated to possibly be destroyed. Citizens call it an eyesore. (BTW, I need to fix the Google logo. It got thrown off when I pasted it in there.)

Also, the developer is open to suggestions. ;)

Aug 15, 2007, 4:26 AM
You should keep the roadway and build the towers over it. Similar to what like they are doing in NYC, only building on train tracks.

Your city is hands down the best (IMO).

Aug 15, 2007, 4:31 AM
Thanks! I certainly like the idea, but it would be pointless and economically unreasonable to do so in this situation. The highway is defunct and only serves as a tunnel to the other side (it comes out by the baseball stadium, as seen earlier). The tunnel could still exist without all the excess freeway (and it is planned to keep the tunnel).

Aug 15, 2007, 4:46 AM
I really just want you to keep the tunnel, I don't care about the freeway (though down the road i think you should make a permanent one).

Aug 15, 2007, 4:50 AM
That was exactly what I was planning to do. :)

Aug 15, 2007, 5:18 AM
you should take out the four blocks by the ocean, and turn it into something like the old WTC:cool: dunno bout the highway:shrug:

Aug 15, 2007, 6:48 AM
ummmm yeah i recon you should dismantle that black one keep the tunnel but the freeway i dont no maybe put a shopping center around there

Developer purchases old highway section from CalTrans for $400 million, signs new HQ deal with IBM
Palm Dunes Journal
Story by staff writer Johnny J. Johnson

Tuesday- Local development and architecture firm Foxmtbr and Associates has purchased the quarter-mile stretch of what was formerly Business Loop 101 from CalTrans for a hefty price tag of $400 million. Immediately following the transaction, Foxmtbr and Associates announced they had signed a deal, for an undisclosed amount, with IBM to construct its new western headquarters on the newly acquired land. It appears that this has been a deal in the making for quite some time, as the firm has already completed the design and submitted the EIR to the city. Approval will be voted on next week. They have released some preliminary renderings to the general public. Materials and colors to be used have not been disclosed, but the spokesperson noted that Palm Dunes "has too many white and blue buildings."

The building as seen in the skyline from the south shore:

The building and site from above, which includes the design for the new tunnel entrance:

Aug 15, 2007, 2:56 PM
Great news!! :D Nice tower.

Aug 15, 2007, 6:18 PM
Wow! That is a very sleek and beautiful tower. I like the idea.

Aug 15, 2007, 8:15 PM
me like !
can you do some more aerials like that ?
your city looks unique from all different angles

Is the rumour true that a division of Foxmtbr and Associates have proposed an office building in R-X ? :D

Aug 15, 2007, 8:25 PM
Foxmtbr and Associates confirmed the rumo(u)r this morning. Mr. Fox Mtbr himself told me that one of his associates, Mr. Mo Cholate is designing a building in Ruo-Xandell.

I'll do more aerials sometime soon. Unfortunately they show my lack of ground detail. :haha:

Aug 15, 2007, 10:55 PM
WOW! stuning proposal!ill e inerested in the texture:yes:

Aug 15, 2007, 11:05 PM
Ah , same here with the ground detail :haha:

:haha:Mr. Mo Cholate better get his ass into gear on the proposal then :D

edit: we like to add U's to our words here:P
honour , colour , rumour etc :P:P

Aug 15, 2007, 11:54 PM
Foxmtbr and Associates have released new renderings showing a new building and their options for colo(u)ring schemes. They have stated that they are leaning towards the more diverse Option 1.

Option 1:

Option 2:

Option 3:

Oops, I forgot to turn the edges off.

Aug 15, 2007, 11:55 PM
opt. 1 looks ficest!

Aug 15, 2007, 11:56 PM
i think 3 is way more funky than all them

It looks really cool

Aug 16, 2007, 12:04 AM
I'd gor for 3!

Aug 16, 2007, 12:38 AM
If they are being built in tandem, they should match. Go for three.

Aug 16, 2007, 12:52 AM
Is there a slight tinge of green in there ?

Aug 16, 2007, 2:21 AM
It looks like everyone likes the matching plan. I'll do that, and I'll put a little more detail into theat second tower, as it looks sort of corny with those textures right now.

And yes, that texture is slightly green.

Aug 16, 2007, 6:50 AM
in my opinion option 2 it has more light to it
great news this will be good to watch

Aug 16, 2007, 7:35 AM
Good choice Fox. I agree with option 3.

Aug 16, 2007, 8:02 AM
 It's a nice shade o green , it's hard to get green to look nice , you did well

p.s , the frowning building is cracking me up everytime :haha:

Aug 16, 2007, 9:11 AM
^ Thanks!

Five-star hotel coming to town
Palm Dunes Journal
Story by staff writer Mr. T

Wednesday- Shortly after Foxmtbr and Associates unveiled its plans for the former freeway site dowtown, rumors began circulating about the possibility of a five-star hotel being included in the mix. These rumors were confirmed this morning when Ritz Carlton announced it would be building a massive 680 foot, 1500 room resort on the site in downtown Palm Dunes.

Aug 16, 2007, 9:52 AM
sounds cool :thrasher:

Aug 16, 2007, 5:50 PM
palm dunes strikes back! cant wait.

Aug 16, 2007, 5:56 PM
nice report Mr T

a Ritz-Carlton will be awesome. i pity the Hilton. ;)

Aug 18, 2007, 8:38 AM
I'm leaving tomorrow and won't be back until Tuesday, so don't expect any updates until at least then. :(

Sorry I couldn't finish off the hotel in time, I'll try to get that done soon.

Aug 18, 2007, 12:55 PM
sweet five star

Aug 21, 2007, 7:27 AM
Did Foxmtbr fall off the earth or something? LOL, just kidding, any updates to look forward to?

Aug 22, 2007, 7:12 AM

Aug 24, 2007, 6:30 AM
you should take out the four blocks by the ocean, and turn it into something like the old WTC:cool: dunno bout the highway:shrug:

do you like this idea since your building over the highway?

Aug 24, 2007, 6:33 AM
Seems like Ritz Carleton like doing business in SSP Cityscape. Hope it get build!!!

Aug 26, 2007, 6:11 AM
God damn you, Sketchup! After two hours and 5 pictures, I find out that only 2 of those pictures worked! :hell:

Foxmtbr and Associates completed its two building plaza, sold one block to another developer to make an office tower (the gray and blue one), one to Ritz Carlton (the circular one), and one to the Mocholate Boomerang company (the twin boomerang-shaped towers).

Aug 26, 2007, 6:16 AM
wow soo much detail great work

Aug 26, 2007, 6:17 AM
Wow, Awsome

Aug 26, 2007, 6:28 AM
:haha:funny stuff ,interesting design but not many customers by the looks of it

Two building Plaza fits well

Aug 26, 2007, 6:37 AM
Oh, believe me, customers will come. :D

Aug 26, 2007, 6:40 AM
and they will come back like a boomerang :haha: eh , that was pretty lame :slob:

Aug 26, 2007, 6:43 AM
^omfg :haha:

Aug 26, 2007, 7:10 AM
Wow I love your city! The Boomerang towers are my favorite! I also love the Blue and gray building in the background with the really long spire/antenna

Aug 26, 2007, 7:20 AM
:previous: yeah , i like that one bestest too:D

Aug 26, 2007, 2:53 PM
Excellent job! The detail of the buildings are amazing!

Sep 2, 2007, 11:19 PM

Sep 2, 2007, 11:45 PM
I see you found some new textures:cool:

1.how do you make your imiges so clear?!
2.when are you gonna add midtown?
3.do you have anything big planned?

Sep 3, 2007, 12:40 AM
1.how do you make your imiges so clear?!
I export the images at... *checks Sketch Up*.... 2555 x 1701 pixels. I only shrink them when I upload them to imageshack. You have to export huge pictures to get clear renderings.
2.when are you gonna add midtown?
I tried once, but I gave up because it took so long. I guess I'll try again sometime.
3.do you have anything big planned?
Anything big? Like what? I don't have any tall towers planned or anything. Eventually I'll add the waterfront, including a huge park, but it could be months before I do that. I know, I'm slow. :P

Sep 3, 2007, 12:50 AM
what I do is import, and go eat out,or let it run all night:haha:
I know, I'm slow.
you could emaill me the file, and I could do it:P :haha:

phhh,I wish:P

Sep 3, 2007, 1:00 AM
do they have names ?, except for cool spire and funky curves which i decided on , and how's the golf course going ?

Sep 3, 2007, 2:05 AM
Nah. Someday in the future I'll name all the streets and come up with addresses and names. The golf course? I forgot it existed. :haha:

Sep 3, 2007, 2:12 AM

Sep 3, 2007, 5:01 AM
Well, there has been a... slight change in design ;):

Sep 3, 2007, 5:54 AM
you made like a bevel down the middles ,i like that better

and what is hiding behind the blur ?

Sep 3, 2007, 6:06 AM
:lmao: :lmao: :lmao:
The fruit bowl!!! That should be the name of the stadium! Hahahaha!

That blur is a building under construction. (Ironically, I don't plan on finishing it, so it's actually "complete.")

Sep 3, 2007, 6:10 AM
:haha: can you tell i'm bored ?
Well it's a nice blur

Sep 3, 2007, 6:35 AM
can we have some stuf from the historic area?

Sep 3, 2007, 2:45 PM
Excellent job there fox. Those skyline shots always amaze me.

Sep 3, 2007, 6:54 PM
the fruit bowl,:jester: OMFG!!
it looks much better now.I dunno, but I thing your export 2d graphic must be a SU Pro thing.

Sep 3, 2007, 8:58 PM
^ Nah, it's quite simple. (Don't mind the random lines I've drawn.)

File>Export>2D Graphic:

Hit 'options' on the bottom right to open the window:

Sep 3, 2007, 9:20 PM
ok,got it:tup:

Sep 3, 2007, 9:21 PM
ok,got it:tup:
whats "new city'?

Sep 3, 2007, 10:27 PM
If i do that it takes about 10 minutes to export

Sep 4, 2007, 4:32 AM
"New City" is Palm Dunes. I named it New City when I started it, and I never changed the name. :P

Sep 16, 2007, 8:07 AM
I finished that little section:

Sep 16, 2007, 8:11 AM
I finished that little section:

Sep 16, 2007, 9:17 AM
The city is massive!

Sep 16, 2007, 4:31 PM
finnished that bit well you did

Sep 16, 2007, 7:37 PM
OMG. Your city is so filled in and massive. You should do some shots looking from the street up. That way you can tell the size of the buildings.

Can I (we) see some shots of the tallest because I really like it.

Sep 18, 2007, 12:09 AM
A phenomonal job there fox. Just a massive and well planned out, designed, and executed city.

Sep 18, 2007, 12:54 PM
It Sucks,Just sucks. the tower are all out of order, there's no detail, the pics are grainy it is :yuck:

JK!!!!!!!Reminds me of the world financial center sorta:shrug: But an awesome job! I love that texture. But Dac,isnt the reason why this area exists,is cause it wasnt planned out?!:haha:

Sep 18, 2007, 6:47 PM
There is a degree of planning in every sketchup city.

Sep 19, 2007, 7:59 PM
Looks great mate!

volguus zildrohar
Sep 21, 2007, 1:54 PM
I've just started looking at some of these cities you guys have been putting together - I have to say there is some incredible work and attention to detail in many of these. This is one of the very best.

Sep 21, 2007, 9:59 PM
yu should give it a try Volguus!

Sep 27, 2007, 6:14 PM
Lookin' very good. Haven't checked up on the thread in a while.

There anyway we could see a new map view and an oblique perspective of the whole city?

Sep 27, 2007, 10:27 PM
You havne't updated in a while we need to see more.

Sep 27, 2007, 10:46 PM
I haven't done anything since the last update, I've been really busy. I have no idea when I'll have time to work on it, it's at the bottom of my list of priorities right now. If I don't update for quite some time, don't worry; it's not dead. :)

Oct 28, 2007, 10:02 PM
Damn you youtube! Your video quality is oh-so-terrible!

Oct 28, 2007, 10:07 PM
thats mad !!!

Oct 28, 2007, 10:56 PM
Wow, dose Palm Dunes really run that smooth on your comp!? Wow, Staunton's pretty slow as it is.

You can only make vids on the professional version right?

Oct 28, 2007, 11:35 PM
Yeah, it only works with Pro.

No, Palm Dunes itself does not run that smoothly, that's why I only made a video of midtown (which does). ;)

Oct 28, 2007, 11:43 PM
pretty sice!

Oct 29, 2007, 2:13 AM
wow, thats awesome.

Nov 4, 2007, 7:52 AM
I'm rendering a video of downtown Palm Dunes itself right now, it's been going about 3 hours and has about 3 more to go. 989 frames to render, talk about lag... :slob:

I guess I'll put it up on youtube and post it here tomorrow, unless I stay up until 4:00 (which is a possibility).

Nov 4, 2007, 10:59 AM
And now, after 8 hours, I present to you another low-as-hell quality youtube video. If only I could post the original videos, the quality is crystal clear on those; it's amazing.

Nov 4, 2007, 9:01 PM
Ahh that video gives a much more clear look at Palm Dunes. I had no idea it was so dense

Nov 4, 2007, 11:42 PM
un freaking - !!!!!!!ble

Nov 5, 2007, 1:07 AM
