No, I'll check it out. It's not totally surprising. You do come on a bit strong. Some of us think it's cool you care so much, but others probably just find it annoying. Either way, I suspect it will be shut down soon.
They moderators kep it but took my name out of the title. I think its cus I made such a strong case for Pueblo on the next post.
Agreed my style is well like a gay Mr Rodgers on steroids lol, overtime they should get use to it.
The thing is I am like this in person about Pueblo too as most of my friends give me a limit then when I reach it ban me from talking about Pueblo if not that's all I talk about all day every day.
To be honest I think every town needs a few people like me. I spend all my time thinking of how to make Pueblo better for its residents, simply as a hobby, and try to help the city to do that. In the end it makes Pueblo a better city for those who want to live here but have no desire to really get involved that way.
I will blow my cover a little here but that's ok. I am the President of Pueblo gay Pride so I work with Pueblo all the time and they are wonderful to work with that is one reason why I am able to call around and talk to officals. Plus not to be snooty but most people in Pueblo know of my name and to be honost I get that all over the state as my family ran a business here since Pueblo was multiple cities. That might be one reason I like this city so much.

I won't fault you for it. I was like that about Colorado Springs when I was in high school, but then everything became about politics for me, and since then I've mostly been bitter. I'm trying to overcome it... I mean, my ultimate goal is to become a part of the solution... to be the change I want to see, I just really haven't figured out how to get there yet.
That's part of the reason I have resisted leaving. A small part of that pre-politically polarized FRG lives on inside of me.

I found a small rendering of what the Pueblo police building will look like and... its kind of bland and uninspiring, especially for the cost.

But I'm sure it will be a nice space filler in downtown Pueblo.
I think that looks like a very good building and will fit in well down there... I really do not like when architects try to be original and creative with their designs and they put in a monstrosity that doesn't fit with the rest of the City. Sorry I am not sure who the architect of the police building is.
As far as water goes I know I am extreme on my views but I think that is a product of me living in Pueblo and not having to worry about water, I am sure my view would be different if I lived in a city that had to manage its water more then Pueblo does. Also, since I was young Pueblo had to worry more about our economy with the loss of the steel industry thus I am more in tuned to that issue.
And thanks! I could be like President Nixon was with China towards the Springs! I just won't wire tap to get into office!!!

This might of been what City center was talking about.......
The company will offer Medicare insurance as well as health coverage for businesses here and in Fremont County.
Health insurance company and medical provider Kaiser Permanente expects to have a Pueblo clinic open by next year, according to President Donna Lynne.
Lynne was in Pueblo on Monday to speak to the Greater Pueblo Chamber of Commerce and other groups about the health giant's coming expansion to Pueblo and Fremont counties.
Lynne said the nonprofit company has wanted to offer services in Pueblo County for some time because it already serves a number of Pueblo residents who work in the Colorado Springs area.
Kaiser also was required by the Colorado Division of Insurance to expand its offerings outside the Denver/Boulder area and offer a rebate to customers. The health company was accused of "cherry-picking" because it did not offer services outside the Denver/Boulder area, sending the considerable money it earned to its Cali- fornia-based parent company.
Lynne, who negotiated Kaiser's settlement with the division, said the money was sent to California company only to be invested along with other Kaiser-state's funds to earn a better return. Still, the state agency insisted that Kaiser refund some of its reserve back to customers. That will amount to $77.5 million, according to Lynne, and will be credited back to customers.
Regardless, Kaiser has asked federal permission to expand its Medicare coverage to Pueblo and is delighted to be able to offer more services here, Lynne said. Those services include Medicare plans for senior citizens and health coverage for Pueblo and Fremont county employers.
State and federal employees who live in those two counties will be able to switch to Kaiser when the company's authorization takes effect July 1 of next year.
One of the company's strongest selling points to employers is the fact that Kaiser's rates usually are about 7 percent less than health insurance rates from other providers, Lynne said.
The company also offers a wide array of wellness and health-improvement services to customers, she said.
Kaiser plans to open two clinics in the Pueblo area in the next two years, staffed by a total of four doctors and as many as 20 support staff members. That will include nurse practitioners, nurses, diabetes educators and others, Lynne said.
The first clinic, the location for which hasn't been decided yet, is planned to open in leased space in 2009, Lynne said. The second is scheduled for 2010.
About 200 Pueblo-area doctors already contract with Kaiser Permanente, Lynne said, and are welcome to remain with the network. Other doctors may join as well and the company will accept doctors who want to bring their practices entirely into the Kaiser fold.
Lynne said the two Kaiser clinics should help meet the demand for primary-care doctors in Pueblo, and the company will be bringing an internal-medicine doctor to the Pueblo market to meet a shortage of those.
While Kaiser will try to sell itself to large employers, it has plenty to offer for small businesses too, Lynne said. A large portion of its customer-base in the Denver/Boulder area is small businesses, she said.
Lynne said one reason the company had avoided building an outlet in Pueblo was the sizable commitment of money it would require. But if employers and senior citizens embrace the company, "my hope is that five years from now we're building a large building down here (in Pueblo) and another one in Colorado Springs," she said.
So this could be good for both cities!
I wonder what they consider to be large and if its over 10 stories it should be in downtown! If they want to be close to a hospital Parkview is there......
:skyscraper:
Personally I think they should consolidate all their Colorado business offices in one 30 story sky scraper located in downtown Pueblo! But then again would I think any different????

Well I just made my first visit to Pueblo this week, and I must say that I liked it. I drove out there with my dad to help him move, and then I flew back from Denver today. The feeling I got from the city and area kinda reminded me of a mix between Albuquerque, NM and Sioux Falls, SD. I liked the fact that the city is relatively easy to navigate and the road structure is pretty well organized, which is something you don't often get in the south. I thought downtown was really nice too. I don't know if there was anything going on, but driving around on Friday at around noon, there seemed to be a lot of traffic and activity (both pedestrian and vehicular). And it really seemed like that in almost every part of the town I was in, at almost any time of day. It also seemed like there were a good number of projects underway downtown too. I haven't been following this thread long enough to know what any of it is, but it was promising nonetheless. I don't mind it too much, but I'm sure my mom won't like the fact that the shopping isn't great.... I mean, it's certainly not bad for a city Pueblo's size. And the nice thing is, it only took about 20 minutes to get from the north side of Pueblo to the South side of C-Springs (Fountain?). Of course, once you hit the Springs, it's basically one big suburb all the way to Denver, which isn't much further away. It's going to be a big shock, moving from the second wettest city in the US to a high desert like Pueblo. I won't be living there long, though. I'll be headed to Boulder, Ft. Collins, or Minneapolis for college in the fall. But regardless, it doesn't seem like a bad town to go back to on school breaks, and I think my family will really enjoy it as well. :)

PUEBLO, Colo. (February 20, 2009) - The Professional Bull Riders, Inc. (PBR) is proud to announce that attendance for LIVE events for the Built Ford Tough Series (BFTS) is up 10.7% compared to attendance in 2008. The results are after nine Built Ford Tough Series events in the 2009 season have been completed. The PBR made modest changes in ticket pricing, making it more affordable for fans and families affected by the economy. The change in ticket prices has resulted in a nominal decrease of $1.10 in the average ticket price.
“We feel very fortunate to be experiencing continued growth in a challenging economy,” Randy Bernard, PBR’s Chief Executive Officer, stated. “We believe it is a testament to the great athletes in the sport, one of the greatest races for the World Championship in our history, and our unwillingness to compromise the quality of the events and entertainment value we bring to PBR fans.”
:banaride:

The architect is Durrant. I don't think it's a bad building I just think there was opportunity to do something special here and they failed. The Pueblo library is a lovely building. I think it could be awesome if Pueblo tried to follow that contemporary desert style, with out replicating the library.
Beyond that I think the city of Pueblo was ripped off on the design that is I believe $10,000,000 over original projections. The cost of the building is now about $32,000,000. They could do so much more with that money.
The new Fort Collins police building has very similar stats but I think it looks light years ahead of the Pueblo police building. The Fort Collins police building cost only one million dollars over the cost of the pueblo building, both are three stories, and both are roughly 100,000 sq ft.

That is a nice building but again it would look so out of place in Pueblo, the same as our police building would up there. Also, it does not look like your police building is in downtown as it is not very urban looking and to me it looks like a "rich" surburban type of buildiong. Ours is in the historic part of our downtown, thus we do not have much room as it takes up the whole block it will be on.....
Other then the fact we are about the same size and have CSU schools nothing else is the same between the cities. That's why its fun to compare the two towns since we are about the same size yet both went different directions, yet both successful cities.
Even the layout is very different, Pueblo is built around highways while Fort Collins is built on big streets.
80,000 is small for a high rise, our 4 story one is 44,000 feet.....

Comparing the two cities is fun. Our styles are drastically different. In comparing the two buildings I wasn't saying I thought ours would look better in your context. I agree about the center of the cities but when I was growing up and all I really knew was Pueblo I thought all cities were like this. In fact I would be mad when I went to Loveland cus I did not think of it as a different city and would say "why does Denver have 4 lane roads so far from downtown when Pueblo can barely do it 10 miles out" lol (I was kind of sped as a kid)
On a serious note I always wondered why Fort Collins grew south, could it be because of Loveland? I mean they did not grow east or north much. In a way I think that hurt your downtown as it takes so long to get there with the traffic from Harmony.
Colorado Springs I don't get either, why try to grow east when all the major bases are west where the majority of the population works? Its a no wonder its not taking off...

Colorado Springs is growing east now, but in the past it's mostly grown north. We've sort of reached a point where a lot of the cheap land, ripe for development on the north end has filled up, and developers are now looking south toward Fountain. I think the sprawl machine is out of commission for a while ( thanks to the economy ), but if it gets going again, I think Fountain, Security, and Widefield, and points south may be the future of sprawl in El Paso County, along with Banning Lewis.
Having said that, I'd rather see only infill developments, with a focus on downtown. I don't think the developers care what I want, though.

It doesn't annoy me but you're right, a good three quarters of the city are south of downtown. Thats beginning to change though. I'd say a around 75% of the planned and under construction homes in Fort Collins are taking place in the north part of town. 10-15 years from now things should be pretty even.

As you rightly point out I am not a true urbanist but I agree with you on this 100%. I mean for the Springs to be bigger then Denver with only 350,000 or so people and still be twice the size of Pueblo when we double our land area but when we grow out be able to be 400,000 people is crazy.

Eeyore... Colorado Springs Police Headquarters, better known as The Police Operations Center or "P-O-C" is located right next to the Lowell Neighborhood in the southeast part of downtown, If I'm not mistaken, it was built as part of a failed urban renewal project in the 80's. With Lowell up and running, it fits in a little better now. For years it was a big red building in the middle of a neighborhood filled with rundown old single family houses... it stuck out like a a sore thumb. I think it should be closer into downtown, myself. Within walking distance of the court house would make sense.

The other side of the rail road tracks kept Fort Collins growth to the south. The only real lower income housing in the city is to the north and east of downtown. Historically those neighborhoods were for German & Russian field workers and those who worked in the sugar beet factories. All the growth to the south was further exacerbated by the mad rush to I-25. All Norther Colorado cities are victims of this. Loveland and Fort Collins grew to the East . Greeley and Windsor grew to the West.

The train really made an impression on me during my first trip to Fort Collins. That freight train on the middle of a downtown surface street was the most hilarious thing I'd ever seen.

Yeah, the fire operations center building isn't too horrible, it's much newer though. My biggest problem with the POC is it's location. I wish it were in the core of downtown.

You bring up another point that I always hated living up there was the railroad tracks going right though the city. Pueblo has them and so does Colorado Springs but we have them going over the streets on bridges, what a novelty...
Most of the tracks in Fort Collins aren't used anymore and are being saved for future light rail. As far as having the train on an elevated track goes... I'll take my train in the middle of the road. An elevated track would be a HUGE eyesore.

It they kep it in downtown yes it would but if they moved the main tracks east by the interstate it would not be. Its not like you guys have a large train yard, like Pueblo does, to worry about.

There was a coal train rolling down the middle of a surface street in Fort Collins the day I was there. In Fort Collins case, it seems like the best plan would be to move the freight tracks east of I-25.

You're probably right. I was going to go into a whole thing about Long Island Ice tea's, but didn't... needless to say, they are my weakness. Getting drunk in downtown Colorado Springs is considered taboo amongs the liberal urbanists of our burgh, but on my last birthday that's exactly what I did... and I liked it. Not so much the next day.
Not that I make a habit of it, but there is something relaxing about squeezing into The Ritz (http://www.ritzgrill.com/) with hundreds of other people, listening to crappy live music, drinking until you are near death, then stumbling out to a cab and heading home.

Because most of our current growth downtown is centered around the Mason corridor I can't really complain about them. The tracks may have been a nuisance in the past but they are the key to our future growth and connection to Denver.

I was told that the other PBS station in Denver is going on Comcast in the Springs and have a antenna on Cheyenne mountain. That could be one reason Rocky Mountain PBS is pulling out of the Springs area. Along with politics of course.
I was also told that the KOAA attenna is the talelst in the area.....

KBDI (the other, and in my opinion, better PBS station) is in fact putting a transmitter on Cheyenne Mountain. They've been on cable here for years. I don't think that really has anything to do with the move, but I do look forward to picking up KBDI's digital signal once they get the transmitter moved down here. They are putting a new full power digital transmitter in Denver, and moving their low power digital transmitter (currently serving Denver) down to Colorado Springs.
KOAA's antenna probably is the tallest because of it's location. It still isn't enough to overcome the elevation difference between COS and PUB, though the digital transmitter is on Cheyenne Mountain, so it's not an issue. Having K30AA will give KOAA an advantage after June 12.

It's complete crap. Their focus is the tri-state area (Colorado, Nebraska, Wyoming) and you can imagine what the news out of Nebraska is like... The top story of the day is usually about how Jim Smith shot him self a real big deer by that new Wallmart in Ogalalla... and so on.
But they did build a cool news room in downtown next to the Melting Pot.

I know a lot of CSU alum in Colorado Springs working in the tv biz who would love to cover news in Fort Collins, if only there were an outlet. CTV doesn't count.

Yes we humor Colorado Springs by having them first so they can think it is located in their city when it is in fact located in Pueblo! The funny thing is most people in the Springs do think that the news is broadcast from there because the antenna is on Cheyenne mountain, like the news cast people drive up there every night for the news or something lol

Yeah. The station's in Colorado Springs & Pueblo cover all of Southeast Colorado. KOAA (NBC) and KTSC (PBS) are based in Pueblo while KKTV (CBS), KRDO (ABC), and KXRM(FOX) are in Colorado Springs. KOAA is generally regarded as the Pueblo station, and to be fair, they do kick butt when it comes to covering Pueblo news. When it comes to Pueblo, the other stations don't come close.

Most of the talent on KOAA live in Colorado Springs and commute to Pueblo. As far as the main anchor team goes, I think Daniels is the only one who lives in Pueblo. Actually I was talking about that tonight with my friend here is what we think:
Gorge ann lives in Pueblo, and she is the one who give it away the most that KOAA is here.
Lisa lives in Pueblo
Rob Quark lives in the Springs
Mike Dannials lives in Pueblo
Mike Madison (who KKTV fired cus they are DUMB) lives in the Springs
