The Royal Victora Hospital complex will soon be replaced with a modern hospital some distance away. A fantastic group of buildings but not very amenable to 21st century medicine. McGill University will likely use most of the complex for its medical and science schools expansion. Almost the entire complex is protected from demolition, except for some plain post war additions.

yes, and the new mcgill hospital complex will be designed by moshe safdie.

If someone were to tell me Montreal had 10 million people I would believe it. What's with these awesome Canadian cities with small metro poppulations. All those streets seem like they produce a lot of eye candy from the threads I have seen on here. Great post.

One of the best things about Montreal: NO SURFACE PARKING LOTS!
True that there aren't tons of surface parking lots, but there are still quite a few. Luckily, many of them have been developed over the past 5 years. THere are less and less surface parking lots downtown!
by the way, everyone of those pictures was great. good job boys!

i dont think 3.7 million is small for a metro population. I mean compared to NYC or L.A yes but those are just huge...and the photos ur seeing here is just the city of Montreal (island) actually just half of the island but on the entire island there is 1.9 million People.

Great shots. It's interesting how you can clearly make out the Mount Royal Neighbourhood north of the mountain. Very different from the surrounding areas.
it's a great example of how imaginary municipal boundaries have a real effect on the cityscape. one side of l'acadie boulevard is lined by five-storey walkups and decrepit 20-storey apartment towers; the other side is lined by a fence and, beyond that, single-family homes with BMWs parked in the driveways.
and that's just the superficial difference. park extension is one of canada's poorest neighbourhoods, 80% nonwhite, 60% immigrant; the town of mount royal is one of canada's richest towns, 15% nonwhite, 30% immigrant.

Now, if you pay attention to this picture I will show you exactly where I live : there is a park almost in the center part of this picture. Take it to the left of this park and to the very left edge of the pic, you can see a church (two steeples and a dome). My house is right next to it.
Would I decide to walk downtown (which I do once in a while), it would take me about 50 minutes.
