That's not definitive proof. The driver may have been confused and pulled up to the wrong construction site. This may be a ruse devised by the developer to reassure frightened early buyers. There's no proof there's any concrete in that truck. The truck may be there to repossess concrete. The driver may have been hired by agents of Bush and Cheney to plant demolition charges so the developers can claim insurance money and lucrative federal grants to rebuild....

It looks really good from most sides, but that really thin side is just atrocious. It looks bad because it looks like the building is really short then someone came along and said, "hey lets make it taller, but just this really thin part, yeah that looks good". If the rood that lower roof wasnt so flat then it would be better ro if it eventually stepped up instead of just ending at the 27th floor or thereabouts.

I don't think it will be that blue. I just chose a blue color to represent the windows until I replace it with a window texture to hopefully make it look more realistic. There is only so far you can take it with Sketchup. Making the face transparent or semi-transparent slows the model down too much at this scale.

Those are superb models Ryan81 by the way, along with Hydrogen's they really help to demonstrate how this building will eventually shape up
But I do agree that from that specific angle the sudden slenderness of the tower looks odd, but overall it definitely improves the aesthetic of the finished building. I guess if they were to continue the box plan to that side, most of the condo's there would have ended up with a terrible view.

Waterview's form is all about maximizing the number of units with those guaranteed (unobstructed) and oh-so-desirable view corridors. If you think about the shape this way - as a clever & elegant means to maximizing guaranteed views - then I think you might like its shape more.

84th floor penthouse will have the most terrace space- over 1,300 sq ft. That is just mind blowing. Whoever will own the 84th penthouse will surely have the best spot for a summer party or july 4th get-together to impress their peers and show-off.

It's not empty, just not available for rooms. That space has no views at all, and will probably be used for "back of the house" uses (offices, storage, and the like)

^^^ No, you are right, there is nothing there, there are going to be several huge pockets of dead space in the base of this tower where there is little to no chance of sunlight penetrating. This increases how tall they are able to build this tower by allowing them to transfer the floor area from those voids to the top of the tower...

I'm wondering though about the unobstructed nature of the views from the SE facing diagonal face. Are the low buildings on the east side of Clark at Lake landmarked or something? Because if anything tall was built on those lots, there go the SE views.

yeah thats what I was thinking too, seems that they should have maybe rearranged the buildings design to better face the river where there will most likely always be an unobstructed view. Because all of those people facing south would be f'd if they ever built a taller building in that area, which I'm sure will happen sooner or later.

The Harris and Selwyn theatre facades (incorporated into Goodman Theatre) are Landmarked. So are the Delaware Building and the Oliver Building. These are on Dearborn Street "in the way" of Waterview's view corridor. I think those are the ones you are thinking of. Further east, you have the Page Brothers building, Chicago Theatre, and Marshall Field's too. Also, City Hall is a Landmark.
Couple this with the fact that the Thompson Center isn't going anywhere, and you have a pretty secure view to the SE. The biggest risk I think is the Loop Transportation Center. Also that garage they built where the twin of 181 Clark was supposed to go.

I don't mean to stir up the speculation machine, but given the progression of glass/facade on buildings such as aqua and the elsyian, (both buildings seem to be at comparable heights at the moment) Would the lack of facade work done yet be a cause for concern.
Does exterior work usually start at the same point in most highrise construction projects, or would there be a reason to hold off.

The art deco building (to the right) is the Lasalle-Wacker building (http://skyscraperpage.com/diagrams/?b25979), and the recent building to the left is 77 West Wacker Drive (http://skyscraperpage.com/diagrams/?b1686), formerly known as the RR Donnelley Building.
I wondered the same thing. Thanks for the info.
I'm crazy about the Lasalle Wacker building, but very sane (not at all crazy) about 77WW. Too bad Lasalle Wacker is office. It would seem to make a good res bldg, although I have no idea how it interacts with the street. I'd live there, though. :)

I'm hoping to get a clarification regarding above. Waterview Tower has two nearest neighbors, one that is directly to the West (right) and one directly to the South (behind). There is also a building across the street (left/East). Which building is which?

the one to the left/east is 77 W Wacker (formerly RR Donnelly - though I didn't know it was no longer referred to as such!). The one to the right/west is the LaSalle Wacker building (though I think it looks like a dinosaur among much better buildings nearby - namely the RR Donnelly!).
the one behind the Waterview I know houses a big El Train stop as well as other businesses. Not exactly sure of the name, though.

It would be interesting to see if something were to happen where the food court is on the corner.
Heh, I like how you subtly slipped this one in here.

This building is just creeping along, by the way what is the building next door? Is it an office or hotel or what?
Where do you come from? How many complex concrete structures have you seen go up at a floor per week? When / if they get past 29 they'll probably do three days per floor.

Which, might I add, is what I've observed as the fastest pace for this type of construction.

^I think that American Invsco owns that property as part of 200 N. Dearborn. I once asked a sales agent what they were going to do with it and he had no idea.

There aren't many that do three days and it is pretty quick but I'm aware of two buildings that Walsh has done on a two day cycle.

Wow, you need to chill. I don't think he meant he was upset with slow construction, just that's it's moving a long little by little and it's interesting to check out the progress.
Interesting how some people on this board try to twist what others say. Seriously, that was very rude.

It's slowly catching up to 300 N. Lasalle.
Soon the triangle setback will increase the speed of the
Waterview and make the race a lot closer.
