I have to disagree. Personally, I can't stand antenae; I think Chicago's ugliest towers are the Sears and Hancock towers, and everytime I see an antenae on a building I want to hack it off (i.e. the PSFS building...I know crucify me, all historical and everything but I can't stand it). The Sears and Hancock towers in Chicago are some of the ugliest building I can think of. To me, those buildings look like something a group of clueless engineers were forced to design and not an architect  But that's just my opinion.

Chicago's "ugliest towers" are the Hancock and Sears? Those are fighting words!
At least the antennae on the Sears Tower and the Hancock Center are utilitarian, unlike the flagpole spires on many buildings (especially in NYC). Personally, I can't imagine the Hancock looking as good without the antennae. A tapering tower with no setbacks seems to cry out for them. (Although it would be nice if they were identical in height.) Plus, the alternative to the rooftop antennae on the Sears would likely be an ugly communications/observation tower somewhere else in the city, which would look awful. (Look up the design put forth a few years back for something called the Beitler Communications Tower across the river from the Chicago Spire site. Thank god that never happened.)
One thing I will agree with is that, with its somewhat busy setback top that seems to announce "You're going to see a flat roof soon" about 8 floors below, the Comcast Center would not be improved with either a useless spire or utilitarian antennae.

In my opinion, those buildings look like disasters before they even get close to the antennae. I think they look horribly unimaginative, and nothing resembles corporate America better than those! Sorry! Although the Chicago Spire is going to look absolutely spectacular! What a gem. Back to Comcast...any idea if they're on schedule to open in May officially?

Well, you're certainly entitled to your opinion. In my opinion, Philadelphia should be so lucky to have to have either of those "horribly unimaginative disasters" in its somewhat repetitive skyline, much less both! With or without antenna, Comcast Center isn't exactly a new international icon. It would, however, make a nice filler tower in NYC or Chicago.

Philadelphia would not be lucky to have them; wrong scale as well as inappropriate context for Philadelphia. Plus they are dated, except to say that over the years their distinguished architecture has come to befit Chicago's skyline.
"..... its somewhat repetitive skyline."
...makes no sense unless you're trying much too hard to find something wrong with Philly's skyline.
I'm sure that most Philadelphians would much prefer Philly to not be/resemble NYC or Chicago or anywhere else. What would be the point, eh?

Well thanks for belittling Philadelphia's skyline... If you acknowledged what this city's developmental progress has been up against (i.e. suffocating labor unions, city government's entangled, co-dependent committees and commissions, and the moratorium on buildings exceeding William Penn's hat just over 30 years ago to name a minute few) I'm not sure you'd be comparing David with Goliath. You have to start somewhere, and this great building is an enormous accomplishment that we should be proud of, especially when considering it's green certification! :D

Many if not most Chicagoans will probably end up considering the Trump Tower "filler". It doesn't have the iconic presence of the Hancock or Sears. And an icon need not be tall either. Many Chicagoans consider the Smurfit Stone building (that diamond-roofed tower at the northwest corner of Millennium Park) an icon of the Chicago skyline. In advertising shorthand or stylized representations of the Chicago skyline, frequently the only recognizable buildings are the Sears, Hancock and Smurfit Stone, with the rest of the skyline being non-descript filler.
Anyway, this whole argument started over someone calling these two Chicago structural expressionist icons "horrible disasters", which is certainly harsher than my claiming that the Comcast Center, while a nice design and important new tower for Philadelphia, is not exactly something that the world will instantly recognize as Philadelphia's finest. Hey, at least I agreed that Comcast would look awful with a spire or antenna....

Comcast may not be an iconic building, but it complements the rest of the Philadelphia skyline well. While Waterfront Square might look more appropriate in Florida, Comcast has qualities that fit really well into the overall dynamic of the skyline. It isn't the landmark recognizable building that the Empire State Building and the Sears Tower are, and Liberty I used to be. It fills in nicely with all the other buildings around it though, and when it is eventually surpassed, it will serve as a brilliant compliment to whatever new (hopefully iconic) skyscraper takes over.

Anyway, I agreed with you that Comcast Center looks best with the flat roof and nothing more. Your mistake is in posting without being able to resist taking a swipe, making a 'dig', such as pretending to complement Comcast then '*'ing that "....it's a nice somewhat forgettable building.....". On one hand something is either forgettable or it isn't. On the other hand, practicing tact will get you out of the Comcast thread sooner and earn you fewer harsh retorts than will digs especially in non-Chicago territory....unless, of course, you have a need to be hostile or somewhat troll-ey.
After all, when you declared that NYC would again have the 3rd best skyline after Hong King and Chicago, nobody joked that poor Chicago always seems to get no higher than #2..... no matter what....

Comcast occupies about 90% of the building. I am not sure who occupies the small remaining amount or even where they are in the building. Every floor I have been on has been a Comcast floor. Donybrx, you are correct about the upper floors going to execs. I actually took a trip to one of the top floors today. It is absolutley amazing up there. It was cloudy and rainy today, but I'm told that on a clear night you can see the lights of Atlantic City. One of these days I'll take some pictures of the views. Last night, while walking up 17th st in a pretty intoxicated state, I looked up at Comcast Center and actually said out loud "if you only knew what was coming up right behind you."
This would not have been a big deal, except that at least 10 people saw and heard me speaking to a building.

haha lol, ive done things like that before. akward at first but funny in the end...
Wow, that TV is gigantic. i wonder if it is capable of 1080p or 200000p.
Comcast, wether it stays the tallest or not, has turned out to be an incredible building. I cant wait to see the crown fully lit

The west and south sides of the Comcast Center Crown were illuminated tonight.
It was sort of dimly lit. Not impressive at fist glance - but they are obviously in test mode.

I noticed the crown lights on around 10pm, so I ran back inside and grabbed my camera.
Sorry, no tripod, but these didn't turn out too bad.
From Love Park. You can see that the east side is off but the west side is lit.

1) RayZ, I dunno. That seems like how it's going to be to me. Everything looks bright enough - that which is lit, anyway.
2) I didn't notice the lit shadowboxes around the top floors before tonight.
3) The blue light on BAT in the last photo is from the employee lounge in CC.
4) Why is "AmQuip" lit on the 10 Rit crane?

VZ you $*&#ing showoff! Damn those are nice pictures! Its like “they” called you up ahead of time to let you know they were getting ready to turn on the lights.
I’ll wait for my opinion until we know the lights are permanent. Right now they are obviously still testing.

Nice, VZ.
Only the south and west sides were lit last night while I was around. I left a little after 5am, when PennDOT did not open I95 as planned ~ 5:00. I hoped for some other shots, but those sides weren't lit anyway.
From 4am at the South Street Bridge: It was quite windy so the shots are not very sharp, even with an (albeit lightweight) tripod.

Hopefully this is just them "playing around", because it doesn't look much like the models (or at least the speculation.) The lights up the corners look almost yellow, while the crown looks like a flourescent white (almost a little blue.) I thought the point was to make it look like there was a uniformly-lighted inner pyramid inside of the darker periferal "thingies" (sorry, I don't know the right terms.) Right now it looks like the crown was just slapped on after the fact. I hope (really hope) that this changes.

I saw the crown lights lit up coming home from bowling over in Deptford last night just before midnight and I was rather underwhelmed. I was expecting something much brighter. I hope that wasn't the finished product.
