View Full Version : Real World Denver, my first impression

When the show started I was pissed that they made it seem like Denver is in the mountains. I know that most people around the country probably think that, but damm, why keep pushing that...

The cast is typical Real World.. blah blah blah

The house was sweet. Personally I would have taken all the stuffed animal bodies outside, but that's just me.

Plenty of sweet shots of downtown though. I can't for them to get out and away from LoDo.

That's my $.02

I just finished watching it too....here is what I thought:

They had some pretty cool shots of denver...lots of downtown and some of the mountains...makes it seem like a pretty cool place to live (but the real world house puts TOO much emphasis on "wild animals and the outdoors")

The show itself is kind of lame...to be honest, I probably wouldn't have watched it if I wasn't interested in the "denver" aspect but will keep watching in hopes of some more cool video footage of denver.

Typical Real World IMO, with maybe one exception, all biaestness aside I think this Denver Real World House is the best one I have seen in a long time. I wonder what will happen with it now that the show is over? Or at least the filming and location is over. I am also curious if they will venture into the hills? Or possibly Boulder for some good times? Anyways it seems like they had fun here in our City. The best part is they are highlighting Denver very well imo the City looks great! And downtown is pretty much a little party central type of scene, so hey why not host MTV's ultimate party show here...

ok, I caught a rerun last night, first time I saw it.

The city shots were fun, they tried to make denver look good, I mean they kept the empty parking lot shots to a minimum, and they tried to make denver look like a fun place (which it is).

The loft was horrible. The word 'denver', ugg!. I remember when pavillions first displayed a big 'denver' as if someone needed help remembering. And the colo flag, and the jeep, mounted animals  We get it already. I like that stuff in a cabin.... Most people in city of denver, or should I say nearly no one decorates their house like that. And some of those mountain shots are like 70 miles a way.

I watched it only because of the Denver angle. I thought they made the city look great and I didn't mind the mountain shots because we're close enough to the mountains that they're part of our culture and a backdrop for our skyline.

I thought the people were morons, for the most part. I can't believe I could relate to the "Real World" cast back when I was their age. I suppose if they had all level-headed, reasonable people, then there wouldn't be a show.

^ Yeah Joe I see your point with the mountain shots and what-not but that was the first episode so who knows? they might show some sun setting shots from downtown in the future and then people will see that the foothills lye some 15 miles west of downtown not right in our City! Like the impression that was kinda made in that first episode, and you don't like the house? Are you serious? I honestly think MTV did quite well on the Denver house, it has to be in the top 5 that place is Sick! With the exception of maybe the stuffed wild animals, that could go but the rest freakin' rocks! I think my favorite part is the the Jeep Bar, then the B-Ball Hoop out back. I wonder if they will sell this place now? Or what is going to happen to it? Oh well i'm excited to see how this season goes. And just how they will portrait our City. Exciting stuff.

my god...i saw places that i was unfortunately at while they were already. i notice they decided to edit some drama out that happened after monarch...my yelling into the mics "what a fucking ridiculous staged drama, shut the fuck up" probably didn't help that scene take off ;)

i love being a dick.

oh yeah, SLUTS GALORE.

I saw an article a couple weeks ago that said the house is on the market for something like $3 million. And it's zoned to go back to being a business, not remain a home.

Ya, word from the bar people I know, drama followed the cameras every place they went... apparently people were being dicks.

Channel 7 reported that The Real World staff stated that Denver citizens were the nicest and most accomodating people from all the locations they have been to so far. Other cities' experience of The Real World had people shooting at the Real World house, numerous accounts of graffitti on the houses, constant unbearable harassment from people on the street and in bars (San Diego really had a hard time with harassment), etc, etc. Apparently the little bit of harassment they experienced in Denver was not much compared to other cities.

P.S.
I thought some of the shots of the city were nice -- others weren't. They did play into some Colorado stereotypes though. I bet you many people that watch the show are/will be surprised on how big Denver is and how much of a vibrant city it is -- not a cow town "in" the mountains. In post-taping interviews, some of the cast members said that before they arrived here they had no idea of how big Denver was and how much it has - and they quickly changed their minds.

did you notice people trying to flip off the cameras in the episode? at the bar, on the mall shuttle, etc. apparently they do that in EVERY city they end up going to. haha, everyone freaking hates them, it's awesome.

I just got to watch it last night too. I was at home and the parents aren't exactly MTV fans, so call me a momma's boy :jester: .

It was the same ol' real world, even though that continous " I wish we had a gay guy" was quite funny knowing they did.... might have been a set up though.

However, the one thing i know to expect is what we got: city shots. I've seen some episodes of previous seasons and they make sure you know with each transition which city you are in. The fly-overs, moutain shots, and downtown shots were all great. They had the light rail in shots, they arrived by train and airplane, and they talked about a lot of bars, restaurants and had lodo/16th street shots. They really made Denver look hip, fun, and modern.

I finally saw the episode online, and some of the city shots were cool. There was one scene where they showed them walk past the side of the damn Office Depot on 16th & Market. Nooooooo!!! Somebody should burn that thing down. Ken? Anyway, overall it was very good.

Also, in regards to them being morons: I saw 3 of the male cast members (the two black guys and the non-gay white guy) at Snooze right after it opened and I overheard them having having a really smart political discussion. I was sort of surprised, but then I quickly realized that anything that's not dramatic/stupid/scandalous/funny/gross gets edited out. Anyway, those three seemed quite smart, IMO. I wonder how they'll come across on the show...

Just watched the first episode-

Denver is friggin awesome!
The Loft- Style House they live in is sweet- I wonder if any insiders know much about that building prior to MTV coming in and purchasing?

I sure hope Downtown Phoenix can transform like Downtown Denver in the next decade!

A) we know.

B) that building used to be my beloved B-52's/Red Monkey hangout before MTV fucking came in and destroyed a great gem for a shitty shitty TV show. B-52's always had no cover and cheap drinks and plenty of pool tables...and the upstairs lounge (where they decided to put the bedrooms at) was a freaking SWEET lounge that had house music every Saturday night and you could walk in there and see an international DJ spinning for free because Little Mike would bring in DJ's from all over the world to spin basement sessions at Vinyl friday nights and they'd still be partying in Denver on Saturday and low behold they were tagging with our famed local at an awesome venue sorta hidden away from the bar below.

I want my bar back, damnit.

That sucks about the bar getting hijacked- I wonder if since it is zoned for a business- maybe someone will buy it and turn it back into a bar/ lounge/ club?

I think the show helps Denver's image as far as showing off your Downtown area... It really is spectacular.

I have wanted a "Real World Phoenix" for quote some time now- just not in Downtown Phoenix because it is pretty transitional right now.
-Most likely in Tempe- which I could totally see happening.

As for the stuffed animals and such- it is silly- if the show was filmed in Phoenix they'd probably have stuffed Gila Monsters and some indoor Saguharo Cacti growing out of the floorboards! Cheeseball.... but the rest of the home is pretty sleek if you ask me...

The location is being renovated as a restaraunt/lounge I believe. The Jeep Bar will stay, most everything else will go.

As for B-52's closing, that truly sucked, but apparently the bar went broke and the location was foreclosed on, then MTV came in and renovated the location.

In response to how gracious Denver was to the Real World.

I was around Austin when the Real World was there. The poor kids could barely step out of the house. There where quite a few physical altercations (including one full blown fist fight that I know of) with the cast. Everywhere they walked the kids in Austin made it a point to yell over them and otherwise ruin the show as much as possible.

I'm not a big fan of the Real World, but man Austin really made a fool out of itself... it was sad actually.

On the other hand I saw the cast walking around Denver while we where visiting.. straight down the 16th Street Mall and no one really seemed to care one way or the other. That was cool.. I didn't see people rushing over trying to get on TV and I didn't see people going out of the way to screw with it.

All in all.. I was proud of my hometown:)

Denver looked especially lovely on tonight's episode. There were some excellent shots of downtown. They really make it look like a large, vibrant downtown surrounded by a lot of natural beauty. They had some great shots of the sky.

Although I missed the first few minutes, and I think someone at a club directed an n-bomb towards a cast member. That's no good.

Other than that though, awesome for Denver.
