Here is my 4th Sketchup Creation. I'm Recreating Lower Manhattan, in 2001, and in 2012.
New York City: The Way it was
- It will not be 100% Accurate
Many buildings will be based off of real ones but not all buildings are the correct heights and shapes.
- Not all of it is mine
The Highly detailed buildings are from Google, the 3D Warehouse. They look too good for me to create, plus its easier to just paste them in :haha:
- Staunton and Oceanside are still going
Both cities are going through a slump, and I need more ideas, especially Oceanside.
Heres a preview shot. 2001.

Thanks! But more replies please :( Everyone must be on vacation :)
The good thing about this model is, no creativity needed. Which is what stops Staunton and Oceanside. This makes the process faster, Battery Park City is about 80-90% Completed.
Another note is the model takes place summer - fall 2001, right before the world went to hell.
The Twin Towers rise high above the Jewish Heritage Museum to the left

Lower Battery Park, Millennium Point, the tallest tower in the pic, is depicted to be under construction since, originally was scheduled to open in October 2001, but was delayed by 9/11.

Classic Shot, I added the New York Mercantile Exchange to the very left

Freaking sweet. I spent most of my waking time over the summer in that neighborhood, and I can tell you you've done your homework. Great job.

Excellent work Patrick! I'm surprised this isn't getting more attention.
Where did you find 55 Water St and One NY Plaza? I've been searching the 3D Warehouse for more New York buildings. Did you make them just for this project? I'd love to add them to my Google Earth recreation.

I made them. I'll be uploading parts of the city soon on 3D Warehouse. Battery Park City is almost done so I'll upload that soon.

My Computer Crashed
Oceanside is Dead
New York City 2001 is Dead
Staunton has been reverted to Staunton 2.0
I'm going through a VERY tough time in my life, school, friends, family, ME, all in one week, on top of all that My computer crashes
I suggest everyone backs up their cities SOON, before the same tragety happens to YOU!
Don't reinstall Windows yet, you can still recover that info easily enough so long as your hard drive hasn't been reformatted.

Well, my computer is going to HP, to see whats wrong with it. Until I get it back, I'm stuck on my parents computer. Despite the things I'm going through right now, I'll start over, and it will be even better :)

In just about a month, NYC 2001 is reborn. I've been working on it for the past week actually, here are some shots.
