So the local OKC forums have been buzzing about a planned tower to go in downtown. So far i gather it will be a glass box set diagonally with a large plaza at street level. I haven't seen a drawing or anything and would REALLY LOVE to see one if anyone has one. The buzz is also that its more conservative in design than most would prefer, but at least something is happening.

Yes I have heard of this also at Okmet.org. Supposedly the rumor had been going around and people are strtin gto think that there really is something in the works. I've also heard that the architect isn't very imaginative, but at least something is going on.:koko:

Who are the architects and or developer? What's the location? Does it have a name yet?

It is speculation at this point, nothing publicly confirmed as of yet.

Well I wonder if it will be built as residential since all of the recent houding booms downtown.
Block42, Brownstones at Maywood Park, Central Avenue Villas, Legacy at Arts Quarter, The Centennial on the Canal, The Hill, The Triangle.
I believe the The Centennial on the Canal is in Brickotwn right across from centennial plaza and next to Harkins theater, The Hill is in Bricktown, and Block 42 is three blocks away In Deep Duece on Walnut Avenue.
They have started construction on Block 42, The Centennial on the Canal, and Legacy at Arts quarter.
Block 42...

The supposed Skyscraper would probably be mixed used.

Like I stated, at this point it is a rumor, here is the first post in that thread (http://www.okmet.org/bb/index.php?topic=1026.0).
Rumors are spreading of a new 30-40 story glassy tower designed by Frankfurt Short Bruza for downtown.
Thoughts?

Renderings have supposedly been seen by some who have attended Frankfurt Short Bruza presentations at an architecture school, and the speaker apparently said he was "very excited" about it but couldn't say much.
I would bet on mixed use for any new construction, but Class A vacancy downtown is very low and it's hard to come by large chunks of Class A space, so offices would do well.

Why does our downtown seem dead to me? Its like i see barely any workers downtown and the and the office buildings are closed down when I go downtown, maybe because I go on the weekend. But me and my friends always explore downtown and bricktown on foot, can't drive I'm only 14. But nevertheless it seems dead.

I had the same perception before I went downtown during weekdays, and until about December of last year when I attended Downtown in December events. Even on weekdays a lot of business traffic in the CBD is in the Underground and not on the streets. But there's a lot more people and traffic on weekdays. And of course more and more events have been coming to downtown, so I have experienced a ton of people on the streets on weekends- especially near the convention centers.

Any news on the rumored tower? That would be quite the project in downtown OKC if it happens.

Still just speculation. No one even knows how close they are to making an announcement.
But one thing I noticed recently... The Downtown OKC, Inc's quarterly news report on downtown development (skyline snapshot) 4th quarter report should have been out at least a month ago... For some reason they haven't published yet. I'm wondering if they are holding out to include something that hasn't been announced yet and will be before January 1.

We're all keeping our fingers crossed on this one. I've been wanting to see something like this happen for a LONG time. I might whiz my pants when they announce it!

No one is releasing anything. I have a feeling that there may be a hold. When they move I-40 and free up the barrier to downtown, there will be a HUGE amount of land that become prime downtown real estate. I have a feeling that MAPS III may include a new convention center in this area...including a very large attached hotel.
I'm also getting the feeling that developments along the river will be spured along including high rises like this one. Hopefully it will help encourage a fill in of downtown all the way to the river. It's very dense now (which I like)...but I always want more.
