Where I walked.

Wow, it seems the city doesn't like the Wrigleyville name, and wants to shove it down our faces thats its named Lakeview

Buildings.

The walk starts here. I was finished with a test, so I'm leaving the DePaul campus. This is Fullerton Ave

Starting at 600,000? Luxury? We'll see how luxury this area is as we walk.

Densification without contextualization.

See, Chicago needs to get its act together. Here's some points about the North Side.
-Its the second densest 25 square miles in the country.
-Its the most popular 25 square miles for the whole ~10 million Chicagoland area, plus other visitors.
-Its most popular urban commercial districts also serve as its major thoroughfares, and they're usually only 2 lanes wide
-It has a high number of drive-in businesses.
-Its transit over the last three years or so has been inconvienient, yet its growing substantially more crowded.
-New developments have become so ubiquitous, I stopped looking for them.

combine all these together and you have traffic hell. Its ridiculous. Its like the Loop at rush hour all day.
http://www.streetsandsoul.com/walks/nov016.jpg

This is around the corner on Ashland Ave. from that "Luxury" building
http://www.streetsandsoul.com/walks/nov017.jpg

I like the proportion of this new building.

If you're going to advertise like that that, at least put the address, that's lazy. I don't have patience with lazy's.
http://www.streetsandsoul.com/walks/nov028.jpg

Oh yeah, this area is so sophisticated, they had to add an 'e' to Mid Town. At least its served by a subway.

http://www.streetsandsoul.com/walks/nov091.jpg

Crossing the river, Back into Lincoln Park. Its only a few minutes to DePaul's campus.
http://www.streetsandsoul.com/walks/nov092.jpg

I took some more pictures of the walk to DePaul and how Lincoln Park slowly morphs back into the elegant neighborhood we all know. Outside of me, like, like, well nobody walks from Lincoln Park to Wicker Park, even though they are only 15-20 minutes apart on foot. Chicago's industrial past/present is both a blessing and a curse.

If you can tell, there's this blur that shows up on the left side of all my pictures. I think its because I dropped it in Vancouver. I would of had my yearly Black Friday thread, but my camera corrupted my pics, and I lost all 150. Just when I was getting back into photgraphy again. Fuck this picture shit in general.

That was my Kubrick ending. Bye.

Segun, was this fruit beneath a tree? As pyropius said, they're known as Horseapples. The official name is Bodark fruit, from the Bodark tree. They're actually poisonous to eat and extremely sticky. When I was a kid our family would go downtown to the Capitol grounds and go "Bodark bowling". We'd find some of these just laying in the grass beneath the tree. We'd roll them down the sidewalk on the Capitol grounds to see who could go the farthest. Who ever won would then be the champ until next time. Corny I know, but we had a blast doing it, it always puzzled and amused the security guards.

Oh man. Awesome thread. And you're not alone, Segun. I've done that walk, too. It isn't exactly the greatest walk, though...

It's funny how the neighborhood now known as Lincoln Park swallowed up those very blue collar neighborhoods that are clearly not intended to be elegant, and now people are paying a plenty to live there.

I like jumbled up hoods like this. The traffic sucks, but housing diversity (even some of the ugly stuff) is cool. I do have a problem with your concept of a short walk (where's my SEGWAY?). Thanks man.

"Crackhead shuffle"... and that's really what it is, isn't it?

Outside of me, like, like, well nobody walks from Lincoln Park to Wicker Park, even though they are only 15-20 minutes apart on foot.

I've taken that walk a few times myself, between Dayton/Webster and Evergreen/Milwaukee, and it's an experience to say the least. The strangest part is definitely around the expressway. Anyway, glad to see you back behind the lens again, Segun.

BTW, i HEARD they were thinking of making a tunnel under Fullerton, Elston, and Damen. Why not build a round-about?

http://www.streetsandsoul.com/walks/nov087.jpgKind of curious. I've never heard them called Horse Apples, but I have heard them called Hedge Apples. I live in extreme eastern Iowa (2.5 hr drive to the Loop). I'll bet it's a regional thing as to what they're called.

Whatever they're called... they aren't attractive.

I didn't comment on this before?

Gotta love Chicago. May not be the Back Bay or Knob Hill in looks but the city has character and on the cheap in comparison. This city is its own unique place, takes some getting used too and once you are used to it it is hard to underastand the places you used to know.

Great thread again.
