The thread title speaks for itself. Does anyone know of any good places in the midwest to visit during in the winter?

Michigan's Boyne Country

Boyne owns Big Sky Montana and Mt. Brighton in Utah, so you know they have their winter resort attitude together. Hopefully you like to ski or snowboard. Northwest Michigan has a lot of downhill resorts. Nothing like outwest, but oftentimes touted as the Midwest's best.

If you like snowmobiling, Northeast Michigan is the place. Presque Isle, Emmet, and Cheboygan Counties all have a wide variety of designated trails for your off-roading pleasure!

Winter Getaways in the Midwest?

Well, Southwest flys to many cities in Florida from the Midwest. ;)

the michigan UP/wisconsin northwoods region is a vertiable winter wonderland. they get so much lake superior lake effect snow up in the UP that many towns simply switch from cars to snowmobiles during the winter months up there. and there's very good skiing (by midwestern standards) to be found up there in places like blackjack, big powderhorn, indian head, rib mountain, and so forth

Well, being as I have blasting hot steam heat in my building I'd say my living room is a great place to visit in the winter.

Minnesota's North Shore is spectacular in the Winter.

Lutsen Mountains is the largest ski are in the midwest.

-1,000 ft. vertical drop
- 90 runs
- "back country" tree skiing
- the Midwest's only gondola
- plentiful natural snow

Add Lake Superior as a backdrop and you can't go wrong...

Nothing like Virginia or W. Virginia, but the price is also not VA's or W. VA's. I usually go about 3 or 4 times a year. They also have a few black diamonds and a double-black diamond. If you are ever in Cincinnati for a few days during the winter, you should check it out ... it's only about 30 minutes away from the city!

You may want to edit your post so that it says Perfect North. ;) For a moment there, I was scratching my head trying to figure out how fast you were driving, that you were able to get to West Virginia from Cincinnati in only 30 minutes. :haha:

What're you talking about? My daddy did the 30 minute West Virginny moonshine run from eastern Cincinnati every week back in the 9-oughts.

I should have said Perfect North Slopes, but most people on an urban centered forum are also coincidentally pretty good with geography (and hopefully with grammer) ... ;)

not quite the midwest... but I know tons of Ohioans travel to Holiday Valley in western NY (just east of Jamestown)... which is one of the closest decent ski resorts to the Midwest...

My son lives in Brainerd, Minnesota. If you like snowmobiling and ice fishing that's big business up there. However this mild fall/early winter hasn't made the lakes very safe yet.

While we haven't had as much snow as usual, there's no mistaking what season it is in northern Minnesota.

Giant's Ridge in Biwabik, MN on Jan. 2nd.

Hocking Hills State Park in southeastern Ohio's hills is a big winter destination.
