LONDON: Broadgate Tower

This is getting quite tall now (it's about halfway up), so I thought I'd create a thread for it.

Broadgate Tower will become the 3rd tallest building in London's main financial district (after Tower 42 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tower_42), and SwissRe (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/30_St_Mary_Axe)),
and the 6th tallest building in London as a whole. The architects are Skidmore Owings & Merrill, and the developers
are British Land.

Here are some renderings -

Having seen the first few panes of cladding up close, it looks really average in my opinion - nothing special at all.

Anyway, here's a few pics I took today -

This is a great tower. I love how it has a more classic SOM style to it. The space between the buildings is pretty cool.

^great photo! What is that viaduct?

That's one of the train lines running through Shoreditch (currently under redevelopment IIRC) and through to Liverpool Street Station, the main transport hub in the financial district.

Alot of cranes for such a little tower.

Heh, I wouldn't call it "little". ;) It will be the 3rd tallest building in Central London, and one of the biggest in terms of floorspace. Actually, it's really 2 buildings. There's the main tower and then a separate groundscraper joining it -

This IMO is one of the most unusual towers to be built in London. I looks like it's a miles outside of the City proper from many distant view but in reallity it's only on the edge. Another thing is that it looks very wide from some angles and more slender and elegant from others. I can't wait for it's completion because to be honest it looks like the best of the many planned skyscrapers for London.

I really don't think the London projects get enough love on SSP. This one's nice, but there are others that are just as exciting that get no coverage here. Those sunset shots are amazing.

On the right of that last photo, you can see the catastrophic damage done to St Paul's by the recent Unilver House extension. Far more damaging than Broadgate Tower or any other skyscraper, in my opinion... I can't believe they approved it.

Well I think it's better that way, otherwise the page will become overloaded with images. Even with broadband it takes me ages to load them all. I'd rather the thread filled up quickly and progressed to the next page, if you see what I mean. I'm not trying to be a post whore or anything.

Here are some pics I took this morning. This was the first time I'd seen the building up close, at full height. I have to say, it looks enormous from Shoreditch. It has a major impact on the area... a proper skyscraper for sure.

Also, I think the cladding looks superb now and I have no worries about the 'back' at all.
