We have crane for the Hilton on the west bank of the Snake River!

The afternoon sun was making the pictures difficult on the east bank of the Snake River, but I wanted to show proximity to the river.

http://i94.photobucket.com/albums/l94/cgummow/Hilton1.jpg

This is from the west side of the river, the Hilton will be directly across from the LDS temple. At night the lights on the temple produces a very visible reflection which occupants on the 4th/5th floor should have a good view of because the water is backed up from the falls right where the Hilton and temple sit across from each other.

A Boise forumer was showing off their cone (Christmas Tree) lighting display on top of the US Bank building. This is to show we do the same thing, except we don't have anything over 30 feet in height to attach it. ;)

McDermott Field is coming along.

This building will be replaced by a 13-story hotel/condominium project. :fingerscrossed:

Lot next to proposed site. Showing what Taylor Crossing is replacing.

Finish off with construction of the first building in Snake River Landing. Another mixed-use development bordering the Snake River that will replace an industrial area.

Impressive pics, eastidaho. Maybe next year some of these will be on the top 10 list for Idaho.

Thanks for posting the pics.

What's happening with McDermott field? I caught quite a few games there back in the old days. Loved the location of it!

McDermott Field, is no more, el conquistador. While the new ball field couldn't be all that was designed in 2005, a new design got the stands demolished and field ripped up this fall. Now, Bateman-Hall is constructing the new ballpark. Given his company's $600,000 gift, Frank VanderSloot got naming rights. So it will be Melaleuca Field on opening day 2007.

Thanks for checking in. You might be interested in some of the other Idaho Falls threads, especially Idaho Falls Projects, which has some more background on all of the pics posted today.

I will check back N2I.F. I am from Idaho Falls, but haven't been back for a visit in over 2 years. It was for my father's funeral, so that was not the best of circumstances.

Anyway, sorry to be a downer. My mother moved up to Island Park for summers and Moad in winters. My wife and kids are starting to get into geocaching, so this gives us an excuse to visit east Idaho again! Oh, and I want to coincide one of our visits with the I.F. Brewer's festival.......

el conquistador, Sorry about your dad. I"ve been there myself almost 10 years ago. Then, my mother's husband died in Jan. I hate going to the cemetery in Jan. - and worst part was they lived in Atlanta during the winter months, but due to a family wedding were still in ID.

Do you have the web address for the Beer Fest.? It is a big deal. Some hotels will even shuttle so all adults can drink. Let me know, because I'll get you some links, if you don't have them.;)

Stop in the I.F. sites when you can. It is always interesting to get views from those who have moved away and either returned or are still away and visit. I currently split my time between I.F. and another city. Some day may move back. But, I keep up on stuff, given how much I'm in I.F.

Have you read the new missions for INL? It's amazing what that place may turn out. Oh, that reminds me, I should post the articles about the proposed $17M building consolidating the 1,600 in-town INL employees into a new building. I think it may be a tower (but probably only 5-6 stories).
I just haven't had time lately to be on this site, but it's good to look at some postings today.:)

My mom and dad always remind me of the time when I was about 5 and got lost in the old Country Club Mall. Now that mall is no more and is a Fred Meyers. It has been a while since I have been to that part of I.F.
I think of the big Totem Pole and how unique it is.

You are right, Sawtooth. The Totem Pole is still very unique. I don't know who cares for it so it stays in as good of shape as it does.

Hope you were somewhere fun when you got lost in the Mall. That was a "beginner's mall," but appropriate for the time.

And that Fred Meyers now has a Starbucks. How times change.

What do you think of the pics? It's hard to see the mud and imagine the buildings. But, there should be very different pics in even 6 months.

I spoke to soon in the I.F. Projects Thread. Thanks eastidaho.

That tower crane is really cool to see for I.F. Maybe another one, in the near future, that's not too far away.

Kind of ironic that tower cranes are not so pretty to look at yet we always want one in the skyline and are thrilled at the sight of them.

I REALLY like that eagle statue(s). That's a wonderful addition for the city.

Thanks again eastidaho for the pics.

Boizean,

Did you reading Smiling Bob's Comments about the Bronze Eagles/Mtn. Lion etc.? He/she said it really can't be shown in pics. I have to agree. There are so many pieces of art that one needs to walk around it to see it. But, it's too hard to see if you're right on it. It's a keeper, that's for sure.

And you are so right about the cranes. Glad you got to see some pics. Snake River Plaza is sort of an unknown for us yet, very closed lipped about that one. We don't know how many total buildings or how many stories. I'm sure the office buildings won't be over 3-4 stories. Rumor has it though, another major hotel is headed for Idaho Falls. And, it is suppose to be at least 4 stars. Given Ball Ventures joint collaborations with Hilton in now at least three projects, who knows......Gem lake is a nice lake for water sports.

Thanks for stopping by and taking a look. I hope you get the chance to see the art in person some day. As Smiling Bob also mentioned, they should be at the Center of Taylor's Crossing, not as an entrance/exit. I agree.:)

Sorry Wrendog, I don't have any right now. I will get around to it one of these days, and include the Totem Pole mentioned above as well.

Taylor Crossing
Dec 18, 2006, 8:29 PM
Taylor Crossing is less than half way through it's building program! The next building is a 75,000 sq. ft. building, more than double the size of it's average buildings. Also starting next year are a reception/convention center and
another 40,000 sq. ft. building! The 75,000 sq. ft. building is directly west of the beautiful eagles and blasting will start in less than a month.

First, Taylor Crossing, welcome to our small but growing number of people intrested in what can be developed or redeveloped in Idaho Falls.

The reception/convention center - isn't that the one where three weddings can occur at the same time and video can broadcast to locations throughout the U.S. (or maybe even world?).

Thanks for joining. If you know anything about your new neighbors to the southwest, where the new Community Care is going, please fill us in. Or, if you can tell us anything about Ball Venture's plans, we are all ears:)

Wow, you must work for TC! Well it will be great to hear from those who know, I do my best to dig up any info that I can, you're going to be a great addition.

The only thing I can say is, please don't do away with the Marriott as a high rise structure. If it is the last building to be built in the development I can wait, and I know others would wait as well. Idaho Falls, and downtown need a new tall building and the addition to the skyline would be awesome.

Anyhow just my :2cents: .

I :iagree: what IFguy is saying. We can be patient to have a taller, better Marriott. We understand that as others develop there may be a greater need to finish the south part of Taylor's Crossing first. What I would add, to IFguy's comment is this: With the new Urban Renewal District classification from the Idaho Falls City Council last week, a majority of the "old downtown" may be making changes in the next 3-4 years. Don't hurry to just put up a 5-6 story building. Take the time needed to put up the classiest, tallest building, so Taylor's Crossing stands apart from others. :skyscraper:

We've all heard rumors of another hotel being planned for the area. Set yourself apart both by the height (what a GREAT VIEW - the Tetons, the Sawtooths, the Snake River, plus the lush valley in summer). But, as further redevelopment occurs, guests who want the best views will stay at the tallest hotels. Instead of being another "ok" hotel at 5 or 6 stories, be the best, based on service and physical amenities at 10+ stories. :awesome:

BTW - if it were me, I'd go for at least 14 stories. Every major hotel I've ever stayed in, which has a 13th floor doesn't have rooms on the 13th floor. The elevator vendors probably enjoy that little quirk when they work in high rises :eeekk: :psycho:

And IFguy, It is so good to see you back;) I wish there were lights on the crane, along with fresh white snow, so eastidaho could snap another famous shot of progress at Christmas 12/25/06. There are certainly a lot of possibilities of what may be well into the construction phase or built next year at Christmas!

The problem is that the decision isn't Taylor Crossing's alone, Marriott is the one who has to write off on the idea.

The original idea was to have a 7 or 8 story hotel, with 5 or 6 stories of condos on top, but Marriott wasn't too keen on the idea, that's why things were rethought.

As it stands now, construction has to begin next year as per Marriott's terms. We'll have to wait and see the what the finished product will be.

Personally I would love to see a 13/14 story building built on the water like that, what a huge addition it would be to Idaho Falls.

Wow! This Marriott high rise has shaken a few lurkers out.

Welcome TCguy, I am guessing that you and Taylor Crossing both work for the development? If so, good luck in your negotiations. Is the concern over how the hotel would mix with the condos? I would guess that Marriott would have zero financial risk on the condo sales?

Anyway, welcome again.
