Controversial tower proposed for Jefferson Highway in Metairie. It will be located about 1/4 mile from Ochsner Hospital and will be between Jeff. Hwy. and the Miss. River. Thoughts? It's up for discussion on the nola.com link I provided. It has passed all hurdles thus far, and is scheduled for a final vote before the Jefferson Parish Council in early January. I'd say this is easily a +90% chance of coming to fruition, easy....It will be well over 400 feet.

Is this outside of Metairie's downtown? By the highway?

Way outside, over closer to the river; however, Metairie doesn't really have a downtown, just a few highrises near the Causeway and IH10.. This project brings to mind a bit of doggerel verse that a friend of mine wrote to celebrate his hometown of Metairie. It goes like this, "Metairie, Metairie, oh so garish! Where ya at, dawlin'? Jefferson Parish!".

Like I said over at SSC, this project will be so out of place in the neighborhood the developers want to build it in, it would be a travesty. I used to live a few blocks from the proposed site. This neighborhood is a very quiet post WWII suburban community filled with tree lined streets and single family housing. Could I see this project being built on the lakefront? Sure. Downtown? Sure. Next door to your grandparent's house and the neighborhood soccer fields? No way.

Who cares, that whole region is so fucking ghetto anyway!. :koko:

Anything would be an improvement
