 I am to travel to Toronto Ontario in January for a seminar, will be driving starting from Mobile. I will be alone and need the best route to take. Can I get some advice on less expensive hotels etc. I am a little paranoid, is Toronto much bigger than Mobile, and is there ways getting around town?

Its number 4 in terms of city population after New York, LA and Chicago in North America. (you can include Mexico city)
Try taking interstate 75 straight up to Detroit. (long way North) I think you could take Interstate 10 to connect to interstate 75, i think. I have not been for a long time.
and then take the 401 all the North to Toronto, when you get into Canada.
When you hit like 15-20 lanes of Taffic your in Toronto.
In getting around, during a workday or Saturday you will have some trouble going around in a car Downtown, put you will be alright if your staying outside of it.
Jan in Toronto is bitter cold and almost a dead place sort of. I doubt you will like it, try coming after April!
Maybe this may show you something. Its a few months out of date.
