I recently moved to atlanta into a small apartment/former hotel room at the underground. I have a few views from my room:

cnn and im not sure what that atlanta building is. it took me several glances to notice the spelling of "ATLANTA" within that structure.

Here's the skyline from atlantic station. I came here to get groceries at publix. I'm guessing that it's not the most convenient grocery store, considering where I live, but the journey wasn't too bad. just a few marta stops north and a free shuttle ride from the arts center to atlantic station.

I also took a walk down peachtree from five points all the way to midtown around 1180 peachtree to take some pictures of the skyscrapers along the way. It was a very nice day, so I didn't mind the walk one bit. I'll try to go in order but I'm not at all familiar with everything yet.

Here I am enjoying a hot dog that was purchased at a hot dog vendor near a car wash. The hot dog was decent. The seasoned fries were better.

After taking marta back to five points to rest for awhile, I decided to walk down to centennial olympic park to take a look at the christmas decorations. Everything was lit up and very pretty. There was even an outside ice skating rink. Unfortunately I didn't take any pictures of it. these pictures really didn't capture the beauty of all of the lights and everything though, because they're at night and I didn't know how to adjust the settings of my girlfriend's camera to take better night pictures. Here they are anyways.

I then walked home to watch some of the pbs documentary of the evolution of new york city on my laptop. I dont have hardly anything moved in yet.

Btw..the building with ATLANTA on the front is the Phillips Arena (where the Hawks and Thrashers play).

im not sure if they hate it or not... i'm not in school. i just felt the need to live in a big city. I'm from Edgefield, Sc. It's a tiny town near Augusta, Ga. So i saved up money and left. i dont even have a job yet.

mseattle - I've never heard the "little apple" reference before - don't know what the reaction to that would be! I have heard the "Big Peach" thrown around, though.:haha:

I think that nickname was commonly used in the pre-WWII years.

p.s. did Suntrust's security harass you too? one of them followed me about 4 blocks and into McDonald's. probably just bored assholes working on a sunday morning.

p.s.s. what do you think of the panhandling bums?

Welcome to Atlanta! Great photos!

Your closest grocery store at the moment is the Publix at North Avenue and Piedmont, though if you're on the Marta, the one at Spring and 9th is easier to get to (and larger than the North Avenue one).

The Broad Street restaurants cater mostly to the 9-to-5 crowd, so they don't tend to be open late. The touristy places, such as Hard Rock, should be open...maybe there was a private holiday event or something?

thanks for the welcomes. the security didn't harass me. i was just walking by on a saturday afternoon. it looked dead. And in regards to the panhandling bums...i'm still working on just flat out saying "no i can't help you" but half the time i end up giving some of what's in my pocket. One guy was really nice and was showing me places to eat...he took me to a place he really liked (i forgot the name). after telling him i wasn't going to eat there he asked me for money. of course i turned him down. i bet if i was actually willing to eat there he would have come in and ate as well and then stuck me with paying his bill. i really need to learn how to say no. one thing that really surprised me was how early lots of the places closed on a saturday night. i walked from centennial park to starbucks on peachtree near the hard rock cafe at 6:30 and it was closed! so were all of the restaurants on broad street. why?

the funny thing about security was that i went there a couple months ago, on a weekday morning, and no one said anything. maybe it's b/c i looked scummy yesterday, not having shaven in a few days and with sunglasses on a cloudy morning to fight the hangover. :shrug:

the bums used to be a billion times worse...it's tolerable now. my way of saying no is that i'm "almost" $100,000 in debt...it usually works. one guy was nice and another guy jumped in front of my camera, so i helped them out. a couple years ago i ran into one who was a "tourist guide," telling me about the Winecoff fire, so i gave him a few dollars, he was really cool. i ran into a British bum like that in Manchester. but like my cousin in NYC says, it's good to know one or two in your hood.

too much shit does close too early in downtown. good luck finding a job, one dude i was talking to at a concert said he does maintenance at Hartsfeld and loves it.

yeah man. the guy that showed me around claimed he was a "tour guide" also. he was giving me a story about him losing his job and getting kicked out of his apartment. He was cool though because he shooed away all of the panhandlers from us and didn't seem like one himself. i should have known he was going to ask for money, though. When i'm approached by someone that i actually wouldn't mind giving money to, i'm always out becuase i've given all my change to the drunk ones that look most threatening. oh well.
