Fountains at Biltmore House. Some of these are dry because they're either turned off in the winter or it's just too much of a pain in the ass to get them working again. One inside the house is turned off because when on, it leaks into the employee breakroom.

Here's one downtown. The fountain the little girl is bending to drink from doesn't work, but the one on the other side of the pole did. However, when the piece is reinstalled after the big Pack Square renovation downtown, it won't anymore, sadly. The Pack Square Conservancy says there's too much maintenance and liability in keeping it working.

Here's a Christmasy view of the same fountain, an advertisement for the Asheville Ballet's annual performance of The Nutcracker.

One of the fountains at the North Carolina Arboretum. There are three or four total around the main building.

My big complaint with the commercial areas of town is that there just aren't enough fountains. It rains all the time here, so you know we have the water to spare. I'd really like to see some more, especially downtown, and I think Biltmore Village could benefit from a nice one also. There will be at least three added to downtown when the Pack Square renovation is completed, but they're all modern and abstract, and not the kind I would really prefer. I'm more a fan of the Tyler Davidson school of fountain design.
