Allrighty. Congratulations to Ninjatune for the victory in the Shallow Depth of Field contest. After some thought Ninjatune has chosen Urban Exploration (URBEX, URBANEX, call it as you want) for contest number #45. According to Ninjatune, "I don't wanna see a gas station on the corner that's been empty for a few weeks - i wanna see real urbex photography!" So there you go, find something really abandoned and vacant. To make this easier, the entry period will be extended until December 31st, midnight (which probably means prior to noon on New Years Eve if you drink like I do.)

You know the drill:
- send a PM with the link to your entry to HomeInMyShoes
- one photo please, makes layout easier to do
- 800 x 600 maximum size (well close to anyway)
- entries are due by December 31st, midnight

The contest may be slow in showing up on the 1st, so just give me some time to deal with the inevitable headache I'm going to have that morning.

its all about subject matter here.. significant abandonment’s or anything having to do with UE.. draining for example..

quality and technical merit come second.

happy exploring!

I've already got a few ideas...but it depends on if I can capture something before I move. OH...btw: yeah, I'm moving from Oakland to DC at the end of the month.

Hmm, I might have a few contenders for this that I took recently. I'll have to pick one.

Hmmm... Taking photos of abandonded buildings is part of my daily work... I think I can find some good pic to enter.

Edit: Or maybe that doesn't count as urban exploration...

This is a great idea for a contest. Hopefully, I can come up with an entry. If not, I'll still be interested to see what others have done.

Right on.. I'm glad to hear ppl responding.. I wasn't sure if we had a strong UE following around here or not.

And yeah, if anyone ends up getting arrested or ticketed - they win.. ;)

I'm looking forward to this.
UE is something that I find most enjoyable.

We're up to nine entries already everyone, keep 'em coming and let's make this the biggest photo contest of 2006.

^ not to nitpick -- but won't this end up being the first contest of 2007? I have no idea what to take a picture of. the only abandoned areas of NYC are most likely areas that I may not want to go and visit. Then again there is so much that looks run down and abandoned. I'm finding this one a tough assignment.

^ hit a few spots around roosevelt island... or go hit the highline!

if anyone needs a ue resource for ideas/tips, check out UER (http://www.uer.ca/)

if at all possible, i'd like to give ppl the chance to describe their shot - what when where how etc.. as much, or as little as they'd like to share..

I'm kinda afraid of Roosevelt Island. Something about an abandoned Smallpox hospital kinda bugs me out :/ I'll check the website.

you don't have to, but if you could just submit whatever you'd like to say to HIMS along with the picture itself. On contest day, it can read as a caption.

^Good idea. I was thinking captions would make the entries that much more interesting. Honestly, I can't wait to see what folks came up with. I'll have an entry myself, though I wasn't able to enter an actual building.

Photobucket is being a pain in the arse, so I'll have to borrow my sister's account for this one. :)

How many pics can we enter? If we can enter more than one, I have a couple others that I took on the same shoot that are appropriate.

Okay, I'm back everyone. I've answered any questions (I think) in my PMs and there's currently 11 entries.

Ninjatune: Arriviste already did, I'll post a link with their entry because it's a kick-ass thread that everyone should see. I'll wait until the contest posting though to keep the entry a surprise.

KevinFromTexas: taken care of.
