View Full Version : Your City's Mayor

Thought it might be interesting for a thread to know who is the mayor of your city (This doesn't necessarily mean the big city that's nearby, it should mean the actual city you reside in.) If you live in a borough of a larger city, you can choose to feature your borough mayor or city mayor.

Give a bit of background on the mayor (and accomplishments if any), and post a photo if you like. For fun, give the mayor a rating out of 10 (0 being the lowest and 10 being the highest).

If your city's mayor is already mentioned, feel free to make your own comments about your mayor and leave a rating along with it.

Mayor of my city (St. Lambert, QC)

Sean Finn
http://img224.imageshack.us/img224/7830/seanfinngy8.jpg

Finn is quite high up in the CN hierarchy. He seems to run St. Lambert as a hobby, or a part-time job. So far he has accomplished very little. Although since he was one of the people who spearheaded the demerger campaign (from Longueuil), he was elected by the majority of St. Lambert residents (who have a large amount lot of pride for their city, which in many ways seems more like a small town than a suburb)

Mayor Brenda Halloran - former nurse and Canada Revenue Agency employee and rookie politician - she beat out the incumbent and a former mayor.. Waterloo residents voted for change! Not enough time since the election to give any sort of rating yet.

North Bay's mayor is Victor Fedeli, who recently won his second term. He ran his own very successful advertising company and retired a very wealthy man at a young age. I guess he figured he had nothing better to do than run for mayor so that he could become an adman for the city. He is so slick it has to be seen to be believed.

Yes, in every city in Canada. The official title of mayor is 'His/Her Worship'.

Fun fact: In the 1970s, Thunder Bay mayor Walter Assef grabbed the queens ass. :) He was elected twice. :)

Used to be one of the largest residential developers in town, now heads a council that has done several things that greatly favour developers and piss off the rest of the town (prime example being updating the land use bylaw, removing the protection the trailer park had, allowing Pointe of View to buy the property and evict 30+ of our most impoverished citizens... all without anyone noticing until it was too late).

Here is Calgary's mayor, Dave Bronconnier being the media whore that he is. Check it out, he is spraying over fake grafitti! What a photo-op.

But even though he is a media whore, he is actually quite a good mayor. Fights hard for the City to get sustainable funding, knows how to get things done. He does like to build freeways, but balances that out with aggressively pushing for LRT expansion. Is generally very supportive with the urbanization of the core. On the downside, definitely has the suburban developers in his back pocket. Pretty much invincible in elections. He is hugely popular. I could see him becoming premier one day for sure. Perhaps a federal cabinet minister if he decides to run federally for the liberals again.

Aside from that last bit about im being premier, I do not disagree with you one bit. Things are finally getting done in/around Calgary (LRT Expansion, 16 Avenue N and Glenmore Widening, Stoney Trail construction) that should have been done at the very least 15 years ago.

she screwed up initially in the park avenue affair, but otherwise i think she has done a good job, considering the pressures of being a woman in politics and especially a powerful woman in politics. she has been a strong voice for arts and culture in city hall.
