Any others in/near Colorado get to enjoy the snow over the next 2 days? Should have some beautiful scenes once the snow actually ends.
2 days of sitting around the house.

A little early to start this thread, don't you think? Sure, the forecasts are now calling for 16-24 inches in metro Denver, perhaps 2-3 feet in the foothills west and south of town by tomorrow afternoon, but still... ;)
Of course, here I am in the office right now, waiting to talk to my boss about a few things, before I get off my butt and get back home, so I don't get stranded in the Tech Center overnight! Hahaha

I there's about 8 inches outside my house, but its hard to tell because of the drifting . Its nice to get a December blizzard so I could be here, not very often you get so much snow outside of Oct/Nov or March/April.
Speaking of school closures, we got two days off at the university because of some ice and 3 inches of snow. Someone needs to teach them how to deal with a little winter weather :whip: .

Well, I think there's at least a foot or more outside my door right now... And supposedly, the snow's going to keep going hard and heavy for another 12 hours or so. The local news stations are saying this might end up being in the top 5 snowstorms in Denver's (read CITY of Denver, not necessarily the suburbs) history, with upwards of 24 inches of snow in total...

The team got in last night and the game is still on according to the local news.
The big question is who will be there to watch them?
Edit: Just got canceled. Apparently workers could not get to the Pepsi Center even though the NBA was pushing to have it stay on.
The people stranded at the Lincoln light rail station are headed to the Marriot. :frog:
BroncoCSU05
Dec 20, 2006, 11:16 PM
The Suns/Nugs game is being forced to play tonight. The NBA will not allow them not to. There's gonna be like 500 people there. I'm tempted to walk up there and see if they'll let me in for free because no one is there (plus i know there's gonna be a shit ton of disgruntled Pepsi Center employees who are being forced to come in too).
The avg is about 10k more per floor. The condos have the following views: The wall of the building between us and Coors Field. Mountains/Coors or Mountains/Park Ave w/ balcony looking at coors, Park Ave (city, but no highrises) and Blake St. (city, need to be on the 5th or 6th floor to see the skyline). The city views aren't that great unless you're on the 5th, 6th floor in which case you start getting the view i show from the rooftop (this one)

BroncoCSU05

It would be stupid NOT to cancel it. Sure the teams could play in theory...but having the game is just totally unsafe since it will inevitably coax people to come out into the city in an EXTREMELY dangerous drive.

I was on the 16 bus from Cold Spring (because the AF/DIA/Downtown Express wasn't operating), and when I hit Colfax and Kipling, he called me up, asked me where I was, and pretty much said I'd be better off turning back around and going home... Long story short, I ended up walking about 2 1/2 miles from Colfax and Kipling back to my apartment through those fucking snow drifts, not knowing where the sidewalk was, where the street was, where anything was, really. I barely could feel my legs and feet when I got home, but thankfully everything was fine an hour after I turned the heat up full blast in my apartment! :) I swear, it took me well over an hour to walk those 2 1/2 miles, it was probably the most difficult trek I've made in my life!

Don't think about getting out and about today, either... Still snowing as of 7am this morning, though it's certainly slowing down. However, the roads are simply impassable right now, and probably will be until this afternoon at the earliest. Let's face it, 2+ feet of snow in a major metro area is going to result in a couple of days of shut-down! :) I'll be going to the park behind my apartment complex, seeing how tall of a snowman I can make!

This snow actually won't be too bad for the roofs because it is very light with not much moisture to it. The one that killed us was the April 2003 storm when we had nearly this much but it was a very heavy wet snow. We will not have nearly as any problems this time around.

I barely could feel my legs and feet when I got home, but thankfully everything was fine an hour after I turned the heat up full blast in my apartment! I swear, it took me well over an hour to walk those 2 1/2 miles, it was probably the most difficult trek I've made in my life! "
...and I don't think the people being rescued by the national guard, the people stranded on the highway, hell, even the basketball fans that wanted to see the game yesterday are too happy about the blizzard... but, maybe all this sun is just burning my brain..

...and would it kill you to have most of this snow occur west of the continental divide so I can water my plants with it in a few months?
:haha:

This snow actually won't be too bad for the roofs because it is very light with not much moisture to it. The one that killed us was the April 2003 storm when we had nearly this much but it was a very heavy wet snow. We will not have nearly as any problems this time around.
I agree. That snow was quite wet, and it brought down lots of tree branches and power lines, and several building roofs collapsed. This snow is more dry and powdery.
I'm thinking of verturing out on foot this afternoon and taking some neighborhood shots.

HMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM... really???

"Did Gabe tell you about MY problems getting downtown? Hmm, because I was the dumbass to be out in it more than a little underprepared??? I wasn't bitching about the blizzard, you idiot, I was bitching about my 2 1/2 mile hike through the drifts!
Sheesh, you're a freaking moron! :hell:

Yeah, the March 2003 blizzard brought down a LOT of the trees in my apartment complex, including one 30 footer that ended up blocking the stairwell in my building for about 12 hours... Thankfully, that thing didn't crash right INTO the building, eh? :)
BTW, even though this is a MAJOR storm, the 2003 blizzard was a lot larger, at least on the west side. That one resulted in something like 5 feet of snow over a few days outside my door...

this blizzard is ridonkulous. i'm having fun stayin at home doing nothing but watching tv tho. my friend got in literately the last bus from DIA at 320pm yesterday and got into denver around 630ish. the bus wasn't scheduled to go en route to downtown, but had to come here to make it to the garage anyway, so he got on the bus and just waited it out. he's currently chilling with me, which is a hell of a better place to be than at DIA, stuck until noon on Friday at MINIMUM. only problem is now i gotta feed an extra mouth in my already low fridge, lol. at least we got plenty of canned food here.

Well i woke up this morning to 26 inches. That is very honestly less then I expected after hearing about totals in Denver ( 24 inches) and from DenverInfill before I went out. We are normally 6-10 inches higher.

Honestly, enough of this shit. What the hell is your goddamned point posting in this thread? Do you HAVE a reason? Or are you just a self-serving asswipe with nothing better to do with his time than laugh at Denverites in a blizzard, even though we Denverites are actually having a pretty good time with it! :D

I only have beer at my house, no real food. I'm debating when to crack the first one.

Lucky you, I don't even have any beer left! (Though I do have a pork tenderloin just begging to be roasted in the oven with some potatoes and carrots! :D) Hmm, I'll tell ya' what, if we can get out of our driveways later today, I'll provide the food, you provide the beer! Hahaha

Wow that's so cool!!!! We had frost for the second day in a row in the San Fernando Valley where I work. :haha:
Someone should get out and do a Denver Christmas thread... it will kick ass compared to some of the others that have popped up on the city photo page.

I'm completely jealous. Wish we could get some weather like that, but I guess I shouldn't complain about 300+ days of sunshine a year. Really cool pics though. Can't wait to get to Copper Mountain in a couple of weeks.
