Salt lake city will soon be getting a 26-story condo tower in downtown. The tower will be 26-stories tall and about 315 feet high. It's been awhile since salt lake city has gotton a new highrise building.

This new tower will go on the coner of South and West temple just across the street from Temple Sq. Right now there is a 6-story hotel that was called the "Inn at temple sq." This builidng is getting tear down now as we speak to make way for the new tower.

This tower will be part of the 1-billion dollar two block city creek center a mix use project that will have outdoor ratail, office space and condos.

So far there are no rendings of this new tower. But i'll try to post some up soon once the rendings come out.

Ok, here are some pics of the site where the new 26-story Condo Tower will go. This site is on the corner of West Temple and South Temple in downtown Salt Lake City.

Two months ago the Inn at Temple Square came down. That was a 6-story hotel that was build in 1931. But now it's just a field.

Here is a better look of where the 26-story Tower will go. As you can see crews are starting to dig up the hole where the underground parking will go.

It does not look anything special to me. But at least it is going to add more height and density to SLC. Those are also very important aspects to a city.

The site of the 26-story condo ( aka City Creek Center Tower 1 ) is where the Inn at Temple Square once stood. Now there's a big hole in the ground where crews are now digging out the dirt and work will soon begin on the 4 level underground parking. We should see a crane at that site by the end of this year if not sooner.

City Creek Center housing units moving right along.

"The first phase of the project is deconstruction of the two-block area, followed by the building of a four-level, 5,100-stall underground parking garage. That is expected to be finished next May, Bishop Burton said, and construction of about 750 residential units will begin the following month.

So work on Tower 1 will begin about May or June of 2008. The underground parking levels of that tower will begin in two months. :whip:

Question: is Nordstrom's returning to downtown? I was in SLC last weekend and was surprised to see a big chunk of its retail gone. Main St looked a bit forlorn.

:previous:
Yes, in 2011 Nordstrom will return. But only this time the store will be facing West Temple not Main street.

Infact the rest of the mall inclubing the Key Bank today came crashing down this morning. Here's a video by KSL as they did a live report of the tower coming down.

With the key bank tower now out of the way crews will now begin work on the CCC with the 26-story condo tower and the other 32-story condo tower.

Salt Lake City lost one tower today, but the city will be getting a few new highrises within the next 4-5 years.

Here is a updated rendering of Tower 1 at City Creek Center. The Tower was 26 floors, but as you can see there are now 30 floors.
