Keep this one updated, I check it's status on Emporis regularly. I love this tower, it is very sharp and modern!!! It will be a great addition to the skyline and add more density! I didn't even know this project had a thread for itself, anyway this tower is great! People seem to forget that average skyscrapers are boxes and that not all of them have these striking features that everyone thinks every skyscraper is now today expected to have by people on here. I'd take normal yet cool anyday over something that looks so out of this world yet horrible like we have here in Minneapolis "Riverside Complex" aka "Crack Stacks"...

Any building that doesn't have anything that looks bad about it and actually stands out as sharp, yet normal at worst wins my vote!!!

I look forward to seeing this one rise. I hear it's going to have an impressive light display at night, anyone know more about that?

I also can't wait to see a bunch more talls going up at the same time in TO. Trump (across the street), One Bloor, Shangri-La, Ritz-Carlton, Four Seasons, L Tower... Downtown Toronto seems to be getting an awesome makeover!

CHAPINM1
06-28-2007, 07:36 AM
I'm really excited for those projects as well, the only one I have doubts about is Trump seeing as how it's been 4 years with nothing in the making. I'd be willing to bet all those projects including Ritz-Carlton, Four Seasons, Shangri-La, One Bloor, among others will be completed long before Trump even breaks ground... The Trump project will be downsized dozens of times to maybe 1/5 it's original height before we even hear a set construction date if were lucky... :haha:

LordMandeep
06-28-2007, 07:21 PM
the city of Toronto gave construction permits for it to start in Sept,07

So this all means that Trump Can start as of that date, but if they will is still in question.

Yes very boring, but second tallest under construction in Canada at the moment.

So its not all bad, & it adds to the density of our downtown.

Some updated pictures to peak the interest of those concerned?

"its in toronto, and americans don't care?"

Hardly - I'd like to see more pics, particularly how it will fit into the skyline. It reminds me of 7 World Trade Center - not the most envelope-pushing, but a nice handsome glass tower.

Nice looking tower, I would also know where in the skyline this will go. 700' is a healthy sized tower.

:previous: It's basically right smack dab in the middle of the CBD of Toronto, I believe. I think the top 10 stories may stick out to be seen from the classic Toronto downtown view from the lake.

On another note, I really like the mural art for the barrier walls surrounding the construction site. Is this something the construction contractor always does or is it unique to the building site? If unique, I think they should preserve the artwork to put somewhere on the building site once this highrise is completed. Something to commemorate the construction workers of the building.

CHAPINM1

If this tower were built in Minneapolis it would really stand out! It would be the 4th tallest in Minneapolis and be not even 100 feet shorter than the current 3 tallest with the IDS Tower leading at 792 feet... It would also probably be the brightest building to light up the Minneapolis skyline with an exception of the Wells Fargo Center.

It's interesting that they're keeping that classic facade from the building that's currently there. Though I wish this happened more in every city, it does sort of detract from the beautiful simplicity of this tower.

Yay! Down with the stump!

So, what is that other tower in that rendering that TOboy posted? Is that it? It certainly looks taller than 715 feet standing there next to the 902 foot Scotia Plaza.

I'm a big fan of the old Bay-Adelaide West Tower design, though. Either way, it's good to see something rolling on that site.

Nowhereman1280
07-01-2007, 02:14 PM
Question, the renders show this building eating the building next door (older ~10 storey thing). Is that a facedectomy or what? Are they just keeping the facade of that building, like several that have been done/ are in progress in Chicago, and then building behind it?

And what is the historical significance of that building? Why is it worth keeping, it doesn't look too special to me?

Neat project, I have heard this one had a older building core which was built a long time ago when there was a previous design, that one has been torn down and rebuilt from the bottom of the pit and up? How many stories underground does it have.

I just want a quick recap of whats been happening to this project from the old days to now. Since I am mostly in the Calgary thread, with calgary towers, I dont see neat stuff like this especially the way they build it.
That tower should have another crane no?

caltrane74

When there is more framework to the steel, maybe a crane can be added to the exterior. (This would aid in the assembly of the steel)

The winter shielding at the base will remain, even as the curtain wall glass is installed on the higher floors.

The base will have an intergrated historic facade which will not be assembled until later into the project. So in the time being, workers in on the lower floors will have element protection from this special shielding.

More panels arriving today under 2 police escort and a over width sign truck following them up Yonge. The panel say they weigh 3890kg each from the marking on them. Once this section is enclose, it will cheaper to heat was well, the worker will not need their winter coat on to work. It will help help to keep the steel warm when they start the pouring of the concrete floors. These panel will rise as the work move up until the spring when the good warm weather shows. Took a few minutes to clear the intersection of traffic to allow the truck to turn off Yonge.

From 3D over at UT

The forms are doing quite the little dance.

Can't believe how fast the core is rising... I suspect it is something to do with pumping concrete versus the old bucket and crane that used to be the norm.

My cherished view of TD will soon be toast.

more this time from drum!!! on UT

Last night around 5pm, the crane was lifting 2 buckets of concrete at the same time, while 2 concrete trucks were pouring concrete into pump machine at the same time.

6 other concrete trucks where waiting to off load on both streets.

I just miss the buckets with this shot.

With the new gate framing for Trump, there will be construction shacks over top of the gate also to the ones north of the gates. Looks like Bay will be the main gate for Trump

So the Bay & Trump are directly beside eachother?

They are directly across the street from each other - both at Bay St and Adelaide St W. One block north of King and Bay Streets - the absolute heart of the financial district.

They're jackin' up the core framing again this morning. I think it's at or just below the 20th floor now. Another 5 or 6 more and it's half way there.
