Hey, quick question for the Canon DSLR users on here...
I'm shooting a friends wedding in May, and I was looking for opinions on which flash unit I should pick up?
I'm shooting a Digital Rebel XT, and I'm not looking to spend a mint...
Recommendations? Suggestions?
Thanks in advance.

I use a knock-off Sigma flash (EF-500). I got it on ebay pretty cheap, around half of what the Canon 580EX would cost, and it works great. I also have the Canon flash cord so I can direct the light where I want it.
This is with a 20D, but with a 350D it would work just as well.

I also use the Sigma flash, i think its a DG-500 though. I've never been very happy with ith however. I'd recommend getting a canon flash, maybe the 480 or 580 ex flashes. Also look at getting a stofen or some kind of diffuser to use, that will greatly help the look of your photos.

I'm planning to get a 430EX flash at some point. I've used the better 580 a couple times, but I've heard that the 430 is just as good unless you need something very powerful.

Correct. I am also using the 430. I currently work as a Photojournalist in my local (Singapore) Newspaper. And on my count have taken 10354 shots in 2 months. Half of all these shots are using the 430EX flash. It's good enough to snap wedding photos and 'people getting hanged.' :haha:

Canon's flash units are not terribly great, mostly in ETTL mode. The 580EX is supposed to be better than the 550EX. I try to shoot with a flash as little as possible.
