-I got special permission today from the founder and owner of Acadia-SC to drive through this and take pics, so enjoy. This is a huge mixed-use development that will consists of around 700-dwellings. It is located at the intersection of Highway 153 and the Southern Connector/I-185. Only the Village portion of the development is under construction at this time, but the rest should begin soon.

Growing up in the South, we remember hearing…“Come on by, the door’s always open”…true southern hospitality, sincerely meant.

You can still find that welcoming spirit in Greenville. Acadia will restore your appreciation of neighborhood. Acadia is thoughtfully planned on 300 acres of beautiful woodlands along the Saluda River. Just 10 minutes drive from Downtown, Acadia invites you to visit, play, work, stay in Acadia.

Acadia is Greenville’s most exciting new community, a place to visit, play, work & stay. Acadia offers true southern living in thoughtfully planned neighborhoods of unique character & distinction, while keeping 100 acres (one-third of Acadia’s total land area) in greenspaces & common areas for everyone to enjoy. Acadia is developed on the belief that this and every community should be in balance with our natural surroundings. With nearly 2 miles of Saluda River frontage, creeks, ponds, springs, diverse woodlands & nature trails, everyone living in Acadia aspires to sustain the environment while building a community of interest & vitality. That is why trees, greenspaces & wetlands are preserved, and shops, offices, condos & townhomes are set in a small village. Acadia is enhanced by a wealth of amenities within an easy walk from every corner. Custom & spec homes in all price ranges, styles & sizes are also carefully situated to fit the land, not overwhelm it.

So far, only 4 homes are under construction. All are right next to the Village. Two have foundations layed and two are about half way done. First one that has foundation layed:

... thanks for sharing the pictures. But quite depressing.

- bummer about the Tigers today against UK (but at least the basketball team blew out U Georgia).

^^^Ummm...how is it depressing? If your talking about the tree destruction, than read this: http://www.acadiasc.com/press/acpr1.html I don't like seeing trees torn down either, but this is a TND mixed-use development praised by many environmental organizations including Upstate Forever. Read the above story and this to see why: http://www.upstateforever.org/program_tnd.html

-Very true about Clemson too.

B/c it's sprawl, certainly sprawl painted pretty incorporating faux new-urbanism. But despite the mix of housing, it is likely to lack much economic or social diversity and more importantly not reduce travel trips too dramatically. Certainly - it does preserve 100 acres of greenspace (which tree reduction doesn't concern me) & will reduce car trips slightly with local entertainment / neccessities. But over all, these suburban faux new urbanism sprawl projects are now a dime a dozen outside of Charlotte, Atlanta & Denver. Really - not knocking Greenville, but this really just looks like a fake neighborhood for the rich to feel good about themselves.

Ah, but you are wrong about Acadia being exlusively for the wealthy. Read over the website to understand more. Yes, this is not the first development of its kind, but the vision set forth is heavily focused on high quality living. Another important piece of information you may not be aware of is that this 300-acres (?) is directly adjacent to I-185, and about 1/4 mile away from I-85, giving easy access to high volume arteries, and thus avoiding the clogging of secondary streets and roads in a typical suburban manner. Personally, I am thrilled with this option of growth and am excited to see more planned.

The think i think is good is that it is off I-185 since there is not much down that way
