lol ya canadian french is difrent from french french lol

vid
Dec 30, 2006, 7:56 AM
Well it isn't that, I learned part Parisian in school and part Canadian from watching French TV and reading the French forums, but I was just wondering if they call is 'Le/La Google' or just 'Google'; Saying 'Le Google' seems a bit odd, but English really isn't that big on function words, especially 'the'. We use it so much we can figure out where it goes without actually writing or saying it.

I give the first week of 2007 a modest 6/10.

Don't be too hard on Claeren. Whenever the forum is in dire need of a dry, yet factually astute insight into capital markets, he's always right there for us.

I like to think I help out in the smug, pointless, overworded smart-ass remark department ;)

How does post count give people credibility? I honestly don't care about my post count, and would rather people didn't look up to me because of it. I just post for fun.

It's really the length and content of posts that shows credibility, not the number. I'm probably the least credible one here. :)

What's another word for Thesaurus?

I like the word 'synonylexicon' (sin ON a lexicon) or the delightfully German 'anderes Wortbuch' (Ander's wart book) when I am referring to a thesaurus without wanting to say thesaurus. Sadly, outside of calling it a lexicon as well (dictionaries and thesauri are both types of lexicons) there is no other word for thesaurus in the English language, at least that I know of.

So can anyone else explain why 7-11's have locks on their doors if their open 24 hours?

vid
Jan 8, 2007, 2:57 AM
No I didn't. I am an idiot. I know nothing. Shut up. What horseradish?

The Mac's down the street is 24 hours and has a lock because sometimes they do close for about 20 minutes a day sometimes. If there is a robbery or something, and the store has to be closed, the locks are for that. Sometimes they might be understaffed and have to close, and having the lock there in the first place is easier than having to put one in after the thought.

in vancouver most of the gas station stores lock up at 11 pm and you have to order through the little window - sometimes the guy will run and grab people chocolate bars or chips or pop whatever - its funny to watch as people point

other times they will open the door and let you in - but not so much

i know cause i drive home from the bar and i want something to drink but the gas stations are usually open but only for gas

there aren't many corner stores open either other than downtown

i pass one 7-11 but its too awkward to get to - so i usually go to the Esso in coquitlam

In Minnesota, we didn't have to pre-pay for our gas on our trip from Winnipeg to Minneapolis. We stopped at a gas bar on the side of I-94 at midnight; it was outside of a town too.

Minnesota doesn't have pay-before-you-pump. They are going crazy with the self-serve thing, though. It seems to be a dying trend in America. Gotta pump your own gas now.

A question for english-canadians, do you have cretons (rillettes) in your restaurants or it is only a quebec thing??

Hate to bump but I HAVE to share this little nugget from SSC. :)
I suppose I'm not against Trudeau on a note but I'm definitely not in favour of replacing the Queen with him. She first appeared on the $20 note in 1935.1935? You mean when she was 9 years old? Or are you referring to her equally parasitic father? You've spent how long in Canada and you still don't know how our governmental system works?

In fact the Queen was on the $20 note from '35-'37 as Princess Elizabeth.Yeah, right. :ohno:

Please don't confuse me with those of such limited intelligence that they'll turn themselves inside out to justify the desirability of vassalage to a bunch of useless inbreeds.

Let's see an image of that above-referenced bank note—along with your deed to the Brooklyn Bridge. Here you go:

http://www.bankofcanada.ca/en/banknotes/graphs/photos/general/1935bg/p_1235ea.gif

Along with information from the Bank of Canada (http://www.bankofcanada.ca/en/banknotes/general/character/1935_20.html) website.

Quote from website: Portrait: Princess Elizabeth
(Granddaughter of King George V and Queen Mary, now the reigning monarch, Queen Elizabeth II)

Lovely. :)
