Does El Paso have a chance at becoming Texas' Phoenix anytime soon?

Wow, that is very cool. I've seen pictures taken from that vantage point before, even panos before, but that one is easily the best I've seen.
It's cool to actually get to see a bit of the city and see how big it really appears. I see a few mid-rises outside of downtown. Or are those in Juarez? I'm not all that familiar with El Paso unfortunately. Anyone know?
I'd love to visit El Paso someday.

I drove into el paso several years ago at night...and wow..All i can say is that city has a ton of lights. For some reason it felt as though i was driving into a huge city like chicago or mexico city...El paso COULD potentially end up booming...but i really don't know much about it other than cheap land. But hell that landscape is some of the nicest in all of texas the mountains look amazing.
Anyone know what El Pasos source of revenue is? Importing/exporting im guessing??

I love El Paso though I haven't been as often as I used to over the last the few years. El Paso is a big government town with Military, and ICE being huge. There are several large factories, UTEP, and Transport hubbing. El Paso is a ranching hub for far west Texas and SE NM
Several of the mid-rises on the right are at UTEP.
THe New Cable Car up the Franklin Mountains is nice. Not as nice as Albuquerque's but nice none-the-less.
Nice pic btw.

One thing that will need to happen is all the roads and freeways in El Paso will need to be straightened so they run either north-south or east-west...and they'll need 1 road that runs northwest-southeast.
Another is they'll need an NFL team with a really lousy owner.
In all seriousness, though, I would consider both to be regional hubs. El Paso is more isolated than Phoenix, so Phoenix will probably always hold a higher status than El Paso.
What exactly do you mean, does El Paso have a chance at becoming Texas' Phoenix anytime soon? Are you referring to Phoenix as a hub-type city, or as a city that has risen from the ashes to become important?

Risen from the ashes to become important and to have large growth. I don't think El Paso would be much more than a regional hub.

Gotcha. Agreed.
For El Paso's growth trajectory to change, the city would probably need to become a a hub for something specific and high growth, such as technology, medicine, etc. Sadly I don't see this happening. A major military expansion in El Paso could happen. Or it could become a hub for defense contractors. That might change things a bit. Aside from the military, El Paso's best chance at becoming more than a regional hub probably lies within the halls of UTEP.

That's one of the best El Paso/Cuidad Juarez pictures around.

The metro area of El Paso/Ciudad Juarez is so much larger than Americans give it credit for, and the city is growing very fast with all of the immigrants. I'm not sure that Phoenix is a good comparative city though.

Love the mountain backdrop. Makes everything else look tiny in comparison. I must visit El Paso someday. Great panorama!

Back in the 80s Midland was in the running for atleast three or four 500 footers. This was due to the oil boom. A few of them were to be designed by I.M. Pei. Imagine how cool that would have been! Anyway that never happened of course, but they did end up with several more 200 footers, atleast 5 more anyway. Today most of the older buildings in Midland are empty.
I'd love to see El Paso get a new tallest. El Paso is the only major city in the state that hasn't gotten a new tallest since the 70s, (1973 I believe).

The company I used to work for decided to start building a gigantic data center / operations center in El Paso, so I know it's beginning to attract the interest of some national corporations.

Use to travel there a lot for hearings; also use to travel to Midland. Wish I had taken some pics back then.
Oh well. That panaramo is kickass.
