This will be a catch-all for whatever projects I happened on by while I was home during Thanksgiving.

Hotel next to the AMC:

Demolition has begun on the southern-most building on the Harriman Campus:

More office construction on Washington Ave, this one just west of Rt. 85:

And even more hotel construction in the same area on one of the few remaining vacant parcels, this one being a Hilton Garden Inn, and slated to open in the summer:

Colonie Center's reconstruction:

The new hotel looks nice. I don't know what to make of that thing over at RPI. Washington Ave is a disaster.

Thanks for scouting. I don't get around so much without the car.

The new hotel does look very nice. The quality of the stone panels used on the first two floors is so good that i'm inclined to believe they're actually limestone..! Shoulda gotten closer up to verify. And ditto concerning the EMPAC and Wash Ave. Then again, with the Harriman and SUNY campuses to the south, and the highway to the north, it really comes as no surprise what kind of development we got out there.. too bad.

And look at the way that hotel hugs the street! No parking lot in front of that baby.

I think the Harriman Campus is going to follow some kind of new urbanist design, so you'd figure this would carry over to Washington Avenue. Albany has a history of piecemeal development plans. Washington Ave has assumed its fate as a collector road.

By the way, you missed downtown Schenectady, which is experiencing a mini-boom believe it or not. And Saratoga, I can't even believe the shit that's going on up there. They are building rowhouses, for christ sake.

Wow the Hilton Garden Inn is coming along fast. That's great to see. Thanks for posting this thread.

The twin towers (aka Commerce Plaza) at Washington and Swan are being re-clad, if you're downtown you cannot miss it as the building now looks entirely black from some angles. I will try and take some pictures soon of it, what's the prime free picture-posting site people use these days? I'm about 5 years out of practice at that.

Actually, I spent considerable time in both downtowns (plus Halfmoon's.. very nice there) over Christmas break, but BEFORE Christmas day (when I got my camera). So no pictures from those trips unfortunately.

I was quite pleasantly surprised to see all the stuff going on in Schenectady.. The theatre, whose fate was up in the air for at least a year or two, is well along. And I think the other big project was a class A office building?

And Saratoga, I hadn't been up there in years, and my goodness the place is going nuts! the amount of new 6-ish story residential buildings was astonishing. I can't wait for the next time I'm home so I can document all this stuff.

EDIT: I should clarify, I took the above pictures over Thanksgiving break with a friend's cam.
